Chapter 133: CP:133 He’s Family Now

The word exploded from six tiny throats at once.

"MAMA!"

The snakelings moved like a living wave—scales flashing, limbs scrambling, tiny claws digging into dirt and bark as they launched toward him.

Jade dropped from the tree he’d been climbing, landing in a perfect roll and sprinting straight at Alex’s legs. Siddy launched himself from his branch like a green missile, tail swirling like a tornado that ended in a hard thud against Alex’s chest. Sterling and River hit him at the same time from opposite sides, wrapping around his thighs like living vines. Ripple and Onyx came last, the smaller ones burrowing between their siblings until all six were piled against him in a writhing, sobbing, scale-covered heap.

Alex’s knees buckled under the sheer weight of relief and love. He went down hard, landing on his ass in the grass, arms already full of his children.

"I’ve got you," he whispered, voice cracking. "I’ve got all of you. I’m here. I’m safe."

Ripple’s quiet tears turned into full, hiccuping sobs against his neck. "You disappeared. The light took you and you were gone and we couldn’t smell you anymore—"

"I know, baby. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry." Alex pressed kisses to every scaly forehead he could reach, tasting salt and fear-sweat. "It was an accident. Emergency protocol. But I’m back now. I’m not going anywhere."

Then came Naga, he uncoiled his tail so fast the air whistled. In two heartbeats he was there, massive serpent body looping around the entire pile of Alex and snakelings, scales shimmering between frantic emerald and black. His upper body shifted partially human—arms wrapping around Alex from behind, face burying in his brown hair with a broken sound that was half-hiss, half-sob.

"Where were you?" Naga breathed, voice shaking. "Four hours...You were gone for four hours."

Zale was next, the water sphere dissolving into mist as he dropped to his knees beside them. Cool hands cupped Alex’s face, thumbs brushing tears Alex hadn’t realized he was shedding. Zale’s eyes—aqua–green —were wide with something raw.

"Never do that again," he ordered, then immediately contradicted himself by pulling Alex into a crushing kiss that tasted like sea salt and terror. "Or I’ll drown the entire forest looking for you."

Leo came in a rush of lightning, shifting mid-air to human form and practically tackling the group. His laugh was shaky. "You. You. I was so scared. I thought...they took you from us... And I would’ve turn this place upside down if— "

" If I didn’t return? " Alex asked which he received silence as an answer.

Next was Drakar, his deep rumble came from the edge of the clearing. The dragon lord hadn’t moved, but his ruby–red eyes were fixed on Alex with an intensity that felt like standing too close to a volcano.

"You are never leaving my sight again," he stated, voice low and final. "Not for a single second."

Granite let out a long, exhausted bear sigh and lumbered over, one massive paw gently patting Alex’s shoulder hard enough to rock him. " You and your children are gonna be the death of me."

Sally was crying openly now, phone forgotten as she knelt beside the pile and stroked Alex’s hair. "We thought the worst. The wolves said you vanished in a flash of light right after the battle..."

Alex looked up through the tangle of limbs and scales and found Lucas standing a few feet away, watching the reunion with quiet, pale-eyed patience. The wolf lord’s expression was soft—almost wistful—but he made no move to intrude.

Alex reached out one hand. "Lucas."

The clearing went still.

Every head turned.

Naga’s coils tightened fractionally. Zale’s eyes narrowed. Leo’s wings flared. Even the snakelings paused their clinging to stare.

Lucas didn’t flinch. He simply walked forward until he could take Alex’s offered hand, dropping to one knee beside the pile of family so they were eye-level.

"He saved my life," Alex said quietly, voice carrying in the sudden silence. "Took a blow meant for me. Would’ve died if the bond hadn’t... if we hadn’t..."

He didn’t finish. He didn’t need to. The scent of sex and fresh bond still clung to both of them, impossible to miss for anyone with a nose.

Naga’s coils went rigid. For one terrible second, his expression flickered through a dozen emotions—shock, hurt, calculation, and something that might have been the beginning of anger.

Then he looked at Lucas. At the healing wound still pink on his chest. At the way he held Alex’s hand like it was the most precious thing in the world. At the bond-thread Alex could now see shimmering between them, golden and new.

"You bonded with him," Naga said. Not a question.

"Yes," Alex said. "To save his life. The System said—"

"I know what the spirit said." Naga’s voice was carefully controlled. "I can feel it. The bond. It’s... there."

Zale’s hand found Alex’s shoulder, steadying. "How bad was it?"

"The wound?" Lucas spoke for the first time. "Fatal. Claws through the chest. I was dead in minutes." His pale eyes met each of Alex’s mates in turn. "He didn’t hesitate. Didn’t think about politics or consequences or what it would mean. He just... saved me."

Leo made a sound low in his throat. "That sounds like Alex."

"It is like Alex," Naga agreed slowly. The tension in his coils didn’t release, but it shifted—from threat-assessment to something more like reluctant acceptance. "He collects broken things and fixes them. Apparently that includes Wolf Lords now."

"I’m not broken," Lucas said.

"No," Naga acknowledged. "But you were dying. There’s a difference."

The snakelings, who had been watching this exchange with the intense focus of children sensing adult tension, began to stir.

Ripple sniffled, wiping his face against Alex’s shoulder. "So the wolf lord is family now?"

The question hung in the air.

Alex looked at Lucas. At the wolf who had waited four years, who had thrown himself into death’s path without hesitation, who had taken everything Alex had to give in that cave and given back twice as much.

"Yes," Alex said quietly. "He’s family now."
