I Was Reborn as the Female Antagonist's Servant-Chapter 39 – What Was That Voice?
Everything looked white.
An infinite place. It had no definite end. Only emptiness that had color.
My eyes slowly opened. I blinked, beginning to realize.
This was not my room.
I looked around. There was no one here. I tried to scream; my throat felt choked. I could not speak.
Panic took hold of me. I tried to run, but nothing happened. It felt like I was walking in the same spot.
I fell, kneeling. My gaze dropped downward. My mind felt as if it were drifting. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
This was too hollow for me.
Amidst my distress, an indistinct voice was heard. Female or male, I could not identify it.
It used a strange language. I had never heard it even once in my previous life. The words sounded so jumbled.
I covered both my ears. Even so, it could still be heard.
My body trembled violently. I pressed against my body even harder, hoping this dream would end quickly.
The words from the unknown figure, which initially sounded cluttered, began to sound clear. I opened my eyes.
I began to understand the words.
[...You... Have... Found... One path... Only... One... Other... Path... Remains....]
I looked up. My hands dropped from both my ears.
The voice sounded heavy.
My teeth clenched. I wanted to ask that voice. But still, my voice would not come out.
[Now...]
[...Fall.]
My existence felt as if it were slowly disappearing. Falling rapidly.
And when I woke up, my body jolted.
I sat up, seeing my hands trembling violently. My entire body was covered in pouring sweat.
...What... was that, exactly...?
My gaze shifted forward. A male servant looked shocked. The wooden bucket in his hand dropped water onto the floor. He froze for a moment.
I stroked the back of my neck. "Ahaha... Good morning?"
He snapped out of it. Bowing, he apologized to me afterward.
I could only smile awkwardly. I did not want to add to the misunderstanding.
The male servant in front bowed, wiping the water that had spilled onto the floor. Then he left in a hurry, opened my bathroom, and poured water into the bathtub. The sound of the pouring water was brief. He came out of the bathroom and closed it. He was already carrying the empty bucket.
The male servant bowed once more. His brown hair covered part of his face. Then he left while closing my room door slowly.
I scratched my head, slightly confused. I dragged my body down using my legs.
My feet touched the cold floor. I stretched my arms. My body trembled slightly.
I stared at my left hand. I shook it several times vigorously. No pain remained.
I saw the end of the bandage wrap, undoing it around my arm. The bandage slowly unraveled, dangling down to the floor. It continued to lengthen until the entire bandage was undone.
I observed the back of my hand. A wide and long scar was left there. That was natural, since it was the result of friction from a greatsword.
I became more curious.
I tried to take a push-up position. Not an ordinary push-up, but using one hand. And that hand was my newly healed left hand.
I tried to do it. My body slowly went down and up. Although it felt heavy, I could do it.
I stood up. I clenched my left hand tightly. All its functions had returned to normal.
"Incredible..." I muttered.
My wound has truly healed completely.
I stood up. There was much I had to do today.
I looked at the bathroom door, heading there while taking a white towel.
In front of the door, I turned the doorknob and entered. Hot air from inside began to wash over me.
I closed the door behind me. In front of me, white steam from the bathtub rose slowly to the ceiling. The air felt slightly stifling.
I took off my personal servant clothes from last night. My steps moved, and I entered the bathtub starting with my right foot. Soon my entire body was submerged.
Half of my body was submerged in the already warm water. I lifted my left hand from the water, raising it toward the sky. I looked closely at the back of my hand.
"...Was the healing of the back of my hand what that voice meant earlier...?" I muttered.
The more I thought about it, the more confusing it became.
I lowered my left hand back into the warm water. My gaze was fixed on the ceiling. The steam billowed more and more, forming small clouds.
"Hah..."
For a moment I fell silent. Then I stood up after feeling ready.
I got out of the bathtub, taking the draped white towel. I opened the door and walked out of the bathroom.
White steam drifted out, then vanished in an instant.
I noticed the window beside me. The moon above was slowly fading, replaced by sunlight that was emerging bit by bit on the surface.
I walked back. Rubbing my wet head using the white towel. When my head felt dry, I threw the white towel onto the bed. Moving toward the wardrobe, I took the special personal servant clothes. And the clothes once given by Big Brother El with a thin smile.
Today I would practice swordsmanship again.
I closed the wardrobe door. Then I placed those two sets of clothes on the bed. I put on one of the special personal servant outfits. The other outfit I tucked behind my back.
I headed out of the room. Opening the long door handle and closing it again once outside.
A vast corridor stretched ahead. My steps moved again, this time on the long red carpet.
I took a white bedsheet first, before climbing the stairs toward the second floor. Upon arriving there, I headed toward one room—the Princess’s room.
The Princess’s room, which was initially not visible, began to look small from a distance. I kept walking my feet, and the door that felt far away was now in front of me.
I swallowed my saliva. Our relationship should no longer be as foreign as the first time, right?
I reassured myself. And began to knock on the door three times.
"My Lady..." I called.
There was no answer from inside. I began to steel myself.
My hand touched one of the long handles, opening it—providing a little space for my head to enter.
Inside, the curtains were still closed. The room looked dark.
I opened the door wider, allowing my body to enter.
My steps were slightly slow. Placing the white bedsheet I was holding, before walking toward the curtains in the distance.
The curtains were right in front of me. My hand went into the gap, pulling them directly.
The morning light that had already risen entered the room. Stretching from the floor toward the Princess’s bed. That light hit her face.
The Princess blinked several times before waking up slowly. She rubbed the corner of her eyes. Then she stretched her arms, staring at me near the window. She gave a small smile.
"Good morning, Touji," she greeted. Her eyes reflected the sunlight from across.
I smiled back. "Good morning to you too, My Lady."
