I was Kidnapped for Revenge by a Ruthless Alpha-Chapter 86: Ursula’s Return
Chapter 86: Ursula’s Return
~THIRD PERSON POV~
Ursula sat in the corner of her cozy living room utterly engulfed in her new book. She’d waited weeks for its release, having done the presale, she was one of the first to get the new book.
She lived a peaceful life, lonely. But quiet and calm. After the massacre, she needed the slow-paced life to help her heal. She couldn’t stay at the CrystalBay Pack, not just because the survivors were banished and forced out, but because the memories of it all haunted her. What happened to Violet. What her friends did to her people. Innocents. She couldn’t deal with the weight of it all.
She had kept the truth a secret. She had too. People couldn’t handle the fact that their loved ones were punished for a war crime, a violation of a treaty older than the pack itself. That the Alpha King played a part in their loved one’s brutal murder. How secretly twisted their alpha,Young Prince Ambrose would have truly lost everything, not just his family and sense of safety, but his people, his position, everything he had left would have been ripped from him. Ursula had saved Prince Ambrose during the massacre and many others as well. And after they came and sought refuge in the capital, under Prince Ambrose’s protection.
The people needed someone to blame, and Ursula couldn’t bear the idea of the shifters blaming Prince Ambrose. Better to the vampires the villains, since they were the ones who slaughtered innocents, not just the predators behind Violet’s kidnapping and assault.
Ursula knew what those men were capable of, she had been engaged to one. Beta Atlas was cruel, cold and calculating. His charm was unmatched, but it was the same for his sick and twisted nature. The horrible things Ursula endured because of her forced engagement to the beta was part of the reason she would remain alone for the rest of her life. She had chosen to become a teacher, finished her schooling in a human college in the BlackBay Pack’s territory, her home pack. She was an ancestor to the pack’s original members; her father was the current beta of the pack. Coming from a long line of betas. She had a beta wolf herself, just like her father. And also, just like him, she was in line to be the next beta. She was one of the candidates for the next alpha to pick from. She didn’t want the responsibility; she wanted to teach the next generation. Watch them grow. Not answer the beck and call of an alpha.
She liked her life and wanted nothing to disturb it.
But then she got a knock on her door.
She sighed, put her bookmark in place and walked to the door.
"Ursula BlackBay?" a man asked standing next to a large package when she opened the door to greet him.
"Yes." She confirmed.
"I have a priority package for you, please sign here." The man states handing her a tablet and stylus.
Ursula takes it, signing her name and collects the package, dragging the heavy thing inside.
Opening the package on the table, she finds an envelope addressed to her.
Inside was a letter wrapped around a one-way ticket to the shifter capital city.
Inside was a letter from the Alpha King.
"My Dear Ursula,
I hope this letter finds you well, I know it’s been awhile since we last spoke, let alone saw one another. I heard you teach now and that you love your peaceful life. So, I truly hate to do this, especially with all you’ve already done for me, but...
I need you to come back to the capital, I have a task I only trust you to handle. This is a request, you can deny it. But you’d leave me no choice but to come to you personally, putting all my royal duties on hold, to convince you to return with me.
I know I sound like a bratty child, and I mean I was the last time we saw each other. But this bratty child needs you, so as your friend, I humbly request your presence at the capital. Enclosed is a plane ticket, please use it.
I hope you enjoy your, "I’m sorry" present, I picked it out myself. Figured this might be the one thing you want you’d never be able to justify buying yourself. I know how you like puzzles, so enjoy the assembly project.
Yours Truly
Ambrose"
She shook her head and smiled, he knew how to pull her heart strings even still, after all this time. Hand written letters were always something that meant more to her.
Taking a carefully wrapped box out of the package and tore it open.
Her heart practically stopped, and tears welled in her eyes.
No wonder it was so heavy.
The image on the box displayed a tall and long corner bookshelf with two ladders that slide from side to side.
It was custom, she could tell. He really did pick this out for her, because it was made of soft white oak, matching the rest of the furniture in her room.
Then she thought, "How rude, send me a bookshelf that I can’t enjoy because I’m leaving to go see him. What a little brat." She laughed shaking her head. Still, she was grateful, and she loved.
He was right it was the one thing she probably wouldn’t buy herself, she couldn’t justify spending so much money on a single piece of furniture.
She picked up plane ticket and saw it was two days before her flight, "Not a lot of time to think about it, as impatient as ever, I see." She was unsurprised by his urgency. He was always like that.
She called her father first.
"Hey Red." He answered using her nickname.
"Hey Dad, I got package in the mail from the alpha king." She informed him.
"Oh, is that so? It’s been a while, how is the alpha king?" He asked, he was surprised he sent a package and didn’t just call.
"He was requesting my presence at the capital and sent a plane ticket." She said.
"Are you going to go?" He asked, a hint of sadness in his voice.
"Yeah, I’ll leave in two days, oh, he also sent me a present." She had a smile in her voice.
"Oh, what is it?" He asked curiously.
"A custom bookshelf, one with a ladder so I can slide around like a princess from my books." Ursula was so happy about her bookshelf and sad about having to leave just after she puts it together.
"He gives you a dream gift for your home but then asks you to leave your home, so you can’t even enjoy it? What a guy." Her father scoffed.
"Funny, that’s exactly what I said." Ursula laughed.
"Well, I guess, just have a safe trip, dinner tomorrow before you leave?" He asked her, his voice laced with fatherly affection.
"Sure, sounds good. But you’re cooking, I don’t want to dirty my kitchen right before I leave. Also, I’m going to miss your cooking." She smirked. She was a good cook, but nothing compared to her father.
"Fine, fine. Ravioli or Chicken Parm?" He asked her with a smile.
"Chicken Parm, of course." Ursula was stoked; it was her favorite that her father would make.
"You got a deal, see ya tomorrow. Love ya." He said.
"Love you too. Bye." She hung up the phone and decided to start packing. She wasn’t sure how long she’d be staying, but she’d pack enough clothes for two weeks. Better to overpack than under pack.
She went to her closet pulled out luggage and started packing. She grabbed cute matching pajamas, nothing sexy, just cozy. She had no interest in a man, so she had no reason to pack stuff like that.
It would be cold in the capital this time of year, colder than her packs territory.
She packed wool sweaters and thick fleece leggings. She’d have to buy some thicker jackets when she got there, she didn’t have anything would help her brace the cold.
It was already close to the end of October, and the Altai Mountains would have snow some days.
Halloween would be here soon, and she wondered if the palace would do something big and festive for the day?
Packing boots, and hats. Her favorite mug. Jewelry and books. She picked out an elegant dress that she kept in the back of her closet, just in case a formal occasion arose.
She was getting excited to go back and see everyone.
That night she barely slept a wink. She’d leave the day after tomorrow. She informed the school she’d be absent and filled out the necessary paperwork.
The following day went by fast; she spent most of the day setting up the bookshelf, the directions were terrible, worse than Ikea, put she managed and by the end of it, she had a literal library in her living room. And dinner with her dad went smooth. Just the two of them. He smiled with his whole heart at the sight of Ursula.
"Thanks for dinner, Dad, it was amazing. I’m going to miss the hell out of this." She laughed, letting the moment hug her like a warm blanket.
She cleaned up after and went home. She had an early morning flight to make.
With her full belly she slept great.
The next day she woke up early and quickly gathered everything. She had packed up her cat and toiletries, giving one last look to her cozy home. She was going to miss the calm and peace of her life here. Shutting the door and locking it. Ursula and her cat head to the capital.
