Chapter 72: New Alpha

~AMBROSE’S POV~

I figured the idiot would open his mouth again, and it was too tempting not to bait him.

So, when I told him a vampire was my mate, I knew he’d lose it.

He was sentenced the first time he spoke ill of Odette. I just wanted to play a little longer.

I knew who my choice was for Alpha the minute Jaylin acknowledged the difference between feeding on someone’s soul from feeding on their energy.

I needed an Alpha with brains to lead this pack, not just strength.

Jaylin Monroe had both. And with how easily she was able to adapt to eating with a vampire showed me she had integrity and professionalism. She knew the importance of a good impression and allyship.

All things and Alpha will need to know how to do.

After I cut out that idiot wolf’s tongue I looked to the rest of the alphas at the table "You are all dismissed. And I won’t have rumors spreading so what you heard at this table stays at this table, if anyone opens their mouth about a vampire being my mate, they will share the same fate as Drake here." The four Alpha’s rose from their seat, Damon had the guards drag Drake off.

"Jaylin Monroe, please take a seat, I am not dismissing you." I firmly ordered.

"Yes, my king." Jaylin sat back down instantly.

She didn’t appear nervous or unsettled, also a good sign, she knew when to be afraid and when not to be. Also, a necessary skill for any alpha.

"Have I been offensive? Your majesties?" She asked both of us with a cool and indifferent tone.

I knew she was testing the waters to see the direction the conversation could be going. Observant and proactive, good.

"Not at all, I would like to continue our dinner. Letting the people unworthy of being at this table leave so we don’t have anymore unruly disturbances." My mocking grin gave her everything she needed to know.

She smiled and replied with "I’m happy my company lives up to your standards. I’d hate to be a bore, also rudeness and unjust defiance isn’t really a personality trait of mine. I prefer humor and pleasantries, over running my big mouth and causing trouble"

I smiled at her polite but direct words, not hiding her disdain for her fellow alpha wolves.

I looked over and Odette has the same pleased smile.

"So, Jaylin, tell me about your healing knowledge. What have you learned in your studies?" Odette looked truly interested not just like she was digging for information, but like she wanted to know.

"I work mostly with shifters and humans, I go to a human college, but there are classes at night for learning about the night citizens. I don’t know much about vampire anatomy, though I’d be very interested in learning anything you have to share." Jaylin excitedly told my princess. I liked seeing how easy conversation flows with them.

"I’ve learned some interesting things about the difference in the different shifter species. How Cat shifters heal better when close contact to earth or sea. How bird’s live in mountain territories and heal faster at higher altitudes than lower ones. And wolves heal fastest under moonlight geographical preference makes no difference." She started going on about the difference in healing techniques and the discoveries other packs have made. She seemed knowledgeable and Odette was completely invested in the information she was gaining from Jaylin.

The two went back and forth like old friends catching up for the first time in 10 years. I sipped my wine and watched with a pleasant smile on my face.

"So, Princess, tell me, are you really as strong as they say?" Jaylin asked.

"Want to find out if they’re right?" She raised her eyebrow challenging Jaylin for a fun sparring match.

"I thought you’d never ask." Jaylin smiled.

This should be good. I wonder if she’ll use her abilities, or just her hand-to-hand combat.

Jaylin’s abilities, I can’t remember what they were.

I wonder would she go all out or hold back?

What did all out look like? Could she do more than just burn people alive?

The options were limitless.

"King Ambrose, hey, you still with us or did the afterlife take you because you died from boredom.

Odette said breaking me from my internal monologue.

"Sorry, I got excited thinking about how tomorrow my princess and the new alpha of the ColdMoon Pack spar in celebration of your new position." I shocked them with my sudden admission.

"Wait, did you say I’m the new alpha?" Jaylin dropped her fork making a loud clank hitting the plate.

"Yes." I said confidently.

"What about the interviews tomorrow?" She asked in disbelief.

"They choose to speed up their interviews by pushing for the dinner tonight." I answered with an annoyed tone. I wanted to spend time with Odette not dinner with some entitled alphas.

She snorted, laughing at my not-so-subtle jab.

"We will have a celebration. Tomorrow after I announce you as their new alpha. If anyone has a problem, I’ll have it handled. Until then don’t mention anything, that last thing I need is strife in the pack." I mention.

"I understand Alpha King, I will wait for you announcement before mentioning anything to anyone." Jaylin nodded firmly.

"Good." With the meal over I dismiss Jaylin for the evening.

"Thank you, Princess Odette, for taking care of me and giving me the pleasure of your company and look forward to defeating you tomorrow." She winked at Odette. I chuckled, there was no way Odette would lose, not with what I know now.

"Confidence is good, I like that." Odette laughed softly. Her smile looked so real, like she was born to smile. Not scowl, like her usual face.

I extend my hand to Odette, "Would you do me the honors of a walk?"

"I’d be delighted." Odette placed her hand in mine and rose from her seat.

We left the pack house, hand in hand, it was cute she tried to pull away when people saw us, but I only gripped her hand harder and smiled down at her.

"I’m not used to so much P.D.A" She whispered pulling harder on my hand.

"It’s just hand holding princess, relax, plus it’s cold, I naturally burn hotter, just let it happen." I looked down smirking to her.

She shot me a look with narrowed eyes before relaxing her features and rolling her eyes.

She stopped pulling though and gripped my hand softly. Her cheeks pinked from heat.

She’s so cute.

I brought her around the pack grounds, outside of her arrival and the night of the attack she hasn’t seen anything really. ColdMoon Pack had beautiful mountains and snow-covered trees. Their greenhouses lush with blossoming plant life, they have a massive one with their own pollinators.

Which was where I was taking her.
