Chapter 195: Training Pt2

~Odette~

"Better," I said feeling a little more hopeful about today.

Sweat began to form. Gravel scattered. Boots pounded.

The tension shifted from hostility to determination.

I raised both arms.

The air pressure in the yard increased dramatically. Movement became harder. Breathing slightly heavier.

"Adapt," I instructed. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

The shifters lowered their center of gravity instinctively. The vampires narrowed their movements, conserving motion.

One pair timed their advance perfectly, the shifter drawing my attention with a feint, vampire slipping through the reduced pressure.

I flicked two fingers.

The wind reversed direction.

They collided with each other.

A few laughs broke through the yard.

Ambrose’s gaze sharpened with approval.

I walked calmly through the field of struggling warriors.

"You can’t overpower air," I spoke evenly. "You can’t outrun telekinesis. But you can outthink it."

I lifted three at once, two vampires and one shifter and suspended them upside down.

"Your enemy will not fight like you do. They won’t move like you. So you need learn to read beyond instinct."

I spun them once gently before lowering them.

The drills intensified.

I created moving currents that forced them to adjust footwork constantly. I hurled controlled gusts that simulated battlefield shockwaves. I yanked weapons from hands mid swing and tossed them back.

When frustration flared between two trainees, I pinned them both flat to the gravel with a sudden downward force.

"You are wasting energy," I said sharply. "Again."

An hour passed.

And the vampires began using their speed to redirect the gusts, slipping into pockets of calmer air. Shifters used their weight to stabilize formations, creating anchors against my telekinetic pulls.

I lifted an entire section of gravel into the air, creating a swirling cyclone around myself.

"Charge." I challenged with a smirk.

They did.

Together.

A vampire leapt through the rotating debris, trusting my shifter partner to knock aside larger stones. He did. She reached me first.

I twisted, redirecting momentum, but the shifter anticipated the move and countered the airflow with his own body weight.

For the first time, I actually had to shift my footing intentionally.

Ambrose’s smile widened.

I responded by launching myself backward with a burst of wind and sweeping my arm outward.

My tornado expanded.

Half the group staggered.

But they didn’t break.

Good.

Two shifters braced shoulder-to-shoulder. Vampires slipped between them, using the stability as a launch platform.

They reached my perimeter.

My eyes sharpened.

With a telekinetic pulse, I disarmed three simultaneously and pushed four back.

But they adjusted faster now.

The charge forced me to lift myself several feet into the air.

I hovered above them, arms folded.

"Better." my nodded with a small smile.

They groaned in exhaustion.

I dropped them lightly to the ground.

"Alright, last drill."

Everyone moaned with dread.

I gestured toward the center circle of the yard.

"All of you."

They hesitated only a second before surrounding me.

Ambrose straightened slightly against the column.

I exhaled.

The air stilled completely.

Then...

Everything moved at once.

Twenty bodies surged inward.

I spun.

Wind exploded in a ring, knocking the front line back while I telekinetically lifted the second line and redirected them.

I didn’t give them the time to reset.

I stayed in motion, sliding through gaps, flipping over sweeping legs with compressed air bursts, pulling one shifter forward just enough to disrupt another’s timing.

A vampire nearly caught her wrist.

I twisted, sending a spiral gust that lifted both attacker and nearby partner into a controlled tumble.

Gravel flew everywhere as boots scraped against the ground. The air was mixed with laughter and swearing.

They rose again.

This time, they moved smarter.

A vampire darted in low while two shifters flanked from opposite angles.

I felt their efforts.

I smiled inwardly

Then I dropped the air pressure to near vacuum for half a second.

Just enough.

They stumbled.

I swept her arm outward.

Every single one of them lifted an inch off the ground simultaneously before settling back down.

Silence followed.

They stood breathing hard, sweaty and dirty.

I lowered my hands.

"That," I said with a steady and proud voice, "is what teamwork looks like! You almost had me."

A few grinned.

"Again tomorrow?"

I raised my brow. "If you survive today."

Laughter came more easily now—less edge, more camaraderie.

Ambrose finally stepped forward from the archway.

The yard quieted instantly. The shifters dropped to their knees again.

He looked over the group, then at me.

"Well done," he said simply.

The pride he was feeling was radiating off him.

I gave a small nod.

As the trainees dispersed to cool down and were standing closer and actually talking amongst each other.

Ambrose stopped beside me

"They respect you," he said proudly. "I can’t believe they listened..."

"They’ll need to," I replied. "If we are to survive this and find our happy ever after."

"And they fear you," he added.

My lips curved slightly.

"They should."

"You scare me sometimes you know?"

I laughed loudly. "Is that so?"

"Yes. I’m trembling in my boots."

"You poor baby..."

"You know what’s the weirdest part of this?"

"What is, Ambrose?" I looked at him amused.

"I’m turned on and I want to bend you over this fence and fuck your brains out." His smile, menacing and lustful, reached his eyes.

"You’re incorrigible, you know that?" I rolled my eyes.

"Yes, and you find it to be an extremely attractive trait."

"In your dreams, my king." I teased him.

He let out a deep laugh.

"Seriously though. Watching you fight, Ezelreth better watch out. He’s totally fucked."

"We can only hope..."

My exhaustion was finally hitting me. I paled in the face and instantly Ambrose felt my shift and scooped me up. "You need to feed and then sleep."

"Yes Daddddd..." I rolled my eyes again and mocked his overbearing attitude.

He shook his head and chuckled to himself.

Ambrose took me back to their room and summoned Emalea in the pack channel. Asking her to bring me some lunch.

I was drifting off to sleep in his arms before even reaching their bedroom. Drawing energy from him.

"Sleep well my queen." He placed a soft kiss on my forehead and stepped out of the room.
