~THIRD PERSON POV~
He stomped the ground. The floor beneath Odette shook. Odette leapt into the air, flipping once before landing light on her feet avoiding the shaky ground.
Odette charged him again.
They collided in the middle.
She threw a punch; Ash caught it with his hand.
She twisted, elbowing his cheek. Ash did a kick that would have sent Odette flying back but she blocked with a wall of telekinetic force.
They were both breathing harder now.
Ash grinned. "This is more like it."
Odette flashed her fangs with a pleased smile. "Agreed."
She conjured two energy daggers and rushed at him. He readied both fists and met her head on. Energy exploded where they clashed. Odette ducked under his arm, sweeping his legs from under him. He flipped backward, avoiding her kick.
She then threw a blast of telekinetic energy at him, amped up with her air magic.
Ash was thrown back by the impact. Pushing himself off the ground he rushed for her, faster than she could blink, he grabbed her, throwing her over his shoulder and into the air. Odette landed on her feet, sliding backward.
"Good throw," she admitted.
They ran at each other again.
Odette switched tactics. She created a mist of freezing fog around her body, hiding her movements. Ash whipped his hands through the air dispersing the mist.
He didn’t realize she’d already slipped around behind him. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Odette slammed her foot into his back. He flew forward, skidding across the mat. When he stood, he was laughing breathlessly.
"You’re cheating," he accused.
"I learned from the best." Odette winked.
He charged.
She ducked under his fist, slid across the floor and swung her leg upward. The energy surging roundhouse kick caught Ash clean across the jaw and launched him backward.
He hit the mat hard.
Odette stepped forward, conjuring a spear of ice and resting its point just above his throat.
Ash blinked up at her, stunned. Then he grinned.
"You’ve gotten terrifying." He admitted pride all over his face.
"Round two," she said sweetly blinking rapidly like an innocent girl batting her eyes at her dad.
He sighed. "Fine. Round two."
Ash rose slowly, rolling his shoulders. "Last round," he said. "No holding back."
Odette nodded. "You first."
Her aura dropped the temperature of the entire room. Psychic energy spread outward from her feet, creeping across the mat. The moisture in the air crystallized into glittering shards.
Odette inhaled.
They charged again.
Odette crossed her arms and put up an energy enforced shield
The shield shattered upon Ash’s fist’s impact.
Odette backflipped. Flames burst from her boots. Pushing her up higher.
Ash was surprised; he hadn’t seen her use fire magic like that. Pride swelled in his chest once more.
Ash flew forward, moving faster than sound. Odette ducked, rolled, then slammed her palms down, sending a surge of lightning upward. Ash leapt over it, twisting midair, and came down with a heavy kick.
The floor cracked.
Odette jumped aside, barely missing the kick.
They threw blows at a speed mortal eye couldn’t track.
Their fists kept colliding.
Odette clapped her hands and water particles sprung out, creating a cloud so thick both of them seemed to have disappeared.
Inside the fog. Ash grabbed her wrist. Odette twisted. He flipped her. She caught herself midair with a burst of ice under her hand. Kicked him in the chest. He slid back. She pursued again.
Odette summoned a tornado of storm force winds swirling around her.
"Show off!" Ash called through the fog.
"You taught me!"
She burst from the tornado, sliding across the ice at high speed. Ash braced himself. Odette conjured a sword of psychic energy and lightening, just like Artemasia had taught her. Its blade was a glowing white fire. She let her power stretch wide coating her with raw untamed energy.
Ash stared in awe, "Now that’s impressive."
The gym had turned into a battlefield.
He punched. She ducked.
She kicked. He dodged.
He swept her legs. She jumped up.
She swung the blade. He rolled aside.
Neither of them was giving up
She stomped the ground. Electricity crackled beneath Ash’s feet, forcing him to leap into the air. Odette launched herself up after him using her air and telekinetic energy.
Ash stared at her "Really?"
"What?" she said. "You said no holding back."
Ash wiped sweat from his brow. "You’re ridiculous."
"You haven’t changed," she answered.
Ash charged.
He swung a rock hard fist at her.
Odette didn’t block.
She didn’t dodge.
With unsettling calm, she stepped inside his immediate space, grabbed his arm, twisted, and used his momentum against him to throw him over her shoulder sending him to the ground. With her energy she held him. Pinned him hard to the ground, her hold sturdy and unwavering.
Ash struggled with all his might, testing the hold.
It didn’t budge. Her grip was iron tight and unrelenting. No weak points.
He was stuck.
She had won.
Odette stepped back, breathing hard holding him in her psychic grip. "Round three," she said.
Ash lay still for a moment.
Then he laughed. "Yes... round three."
Odette released him.
Ash rose, dusting himself off pride was pouring off him, like running water from a faucet.
"That was impressive," he admitted.
"You’re getting old," she teased.
Odette grinned, these were words she’s longed to hear, with a tone that screamed pride and respect.
"You’re magic is powerful, you were so controlled with your moves and form. Every step you took was calculated. You were flexible with your technique and quick to adjust. I’m proud of you." Ash complimented her and Odette beamed with happiness. The her face was bright and her aura glowed.
"I don’t know if you know, but I’ve waited my whole life for you to say words like that to me..." Odette confessed.
"I’m sorry, but I am glad I waited. I don’t think you’ve ever deserved to hear them more than you do now. That was beautiful. Who taught you all that magic?" Ash asked.
"Artemasia. She’s a pretty skilled witch dad. A bit eccentric and unconventional but powerful and brilliant." Odette laughed. "You might appreciate her madness; it reminds me of you."
"Your mother would be so proud too, you know?" Ash pulled Odette in for a comforting reassuring hug.
"I know." Odette snuggled into her father’s chest, remembering what it felt like to be daddy’s little girl.
"She also might yell at you for going to rough on me and cry the whole time." Odette laughed.
"Yeah, yeah she would."
