I, Viretta, Am Going to Hunt a Dragon-Chapter 72
It was Viretta.
It was definitely Viretta.
“…Viretta.”
There was no mistaking either her face or her voice. He was someone who had once climbed the watchtower and found Viretta among the crowd in less than a minute.
A box was tightly bound to the dragon’s claw, and inside it was Viretta.
The bars were wide, and the altitude was low, so her figure was clearer than expected.
“Ranken! Can you see? Why are we flying like this?”
Though he couldn’t be sure, he even thought he heard Iola’s voice. Ranken anxiously looked up at the sky.
Did the dragon just snatch Viretta away?
In a box?
Really?
“…I saw her go into something like a box earlier.”
Saffron, whose ominous energy flowed through him, trembled around his eyes and spoke.
While Moslin prepared her magic, he had briefly taken cover from the dazzling lightning. With Ranken crying beside him, he couldn’t just sit idly, so he walked precariously close to the nest to keep an eye on things.
That was when he saw Viretta and Iola enter the box.
He had seen the box being tied with ropes, and he saw what it looked like.
“I thought I saw Iola go in too... It felt ominous, like a coffin. But, ha, ha ha, how did this happen...”
Now, the box was caught in the dragon’s claws, flying through the sky.
With a lighthearted voice, as if unable to grasp the situation.
“Ugh, ugh, ugh.”
Viretta and Iola were flying through the air, tangled in the dragon’s claws.
It was certain that they were badly injured at the very least, and the possibility of death seemed to loom right before them.
I thought it would be fine, but here we are.
“Viretta’s gone~!”
Ranken, overwhelmed by stress, fainted.
Chapter 9
The box fell suddenly from the sky.
“Whoo!”
The rope that had been tangled in the dragon’s claws finally snapped.
It hadn’t even lasted thirty minutes, but they had been fine while flying, so it was hard to tell whether the rope was strong or not.
The only fortunate thing was that there was a lake at the fall point.
Though it seemed difficult to drown or burn the dragon with lightning, the size was perfect for catching the box.
If it had fallen onto the ground or a shallow valley, he didn’t even want to think about what might have happened.
However, the impact when hitting the surface of the water was tremendous.

They hadn’t fallen for long, so it seemed like they had fallen near the surface, but still, the pain in his back felt as if it would break.
Falling into the lake wasn’t smooth either. Water filled the box through every gap.
“Viretta! Take a deep breath!”
Trapped in the narrow box with water pouring in, Viretta turned pale.
The question of whether she could swim was meaningless in such an awkward situation.
Even if she could swim, trapped in a narrow box, she would panic instantly.
In that regard, it was remarkable that Viretta didn’t fall into a panic.
Whether they had fallen near the dragon’s nest or now, falling into the lake, Viretta’s reason remained sharp, especially in critical situations.
The ropes Viretta had tied around the box were still firmly secured, preventing the lid from opening.
Viretta, pushing against the box’s lid, took a deep breath.
The water had already reached her collarbones.
The heavy box, with both of them inside, slowly sank to the bottom of the lake.
Though she took as deep a breath as possible, when the water reached her neck, Viretta’s complexion worsened.
She couldn’t even thrash around properly in the narrow box. Viretta’s small head kept sinking below the water and rising again.
It was dangerous.
Iola, seeing the opening, stabbed his knife through the gap and cut the ropes wrapping the box.
After repeating this twice, the box was completely submerged.
Iola kicked the box lid open with all his strength. With the pressure inside and outside the box now equalized, the lid opened, and the water flowed out.
Iola pulled Viretta out of the box.
He placed his hand under Viretta’s armpit, lifting her forcefully to the surface of the water.
Viretta, whose body was limp, didn’t resist as she was pulled up.
Once they surfaced, Viretta, having swallowed a lot of water, coughed it up with a choking sound.
“Cough, cough, I’m alive…”
“Shh, there’s a dragon.”
Iola, spotting the dragon on the lakeshore, raised a finger.
The dragon, which had been forgotten during their flight, appeared right before them, and it was closer than expected.
It was fortunate that they had fallen some distance away, or else they would have been caught up with the dragon drinking water and hurt.
He hid behind some aquatic plants that bloomed softly. It was lucky that there were such plants for cover.
Viretta, soaked from head to toe, leaned her body against Iola.
Carrying someone in a weakened state was surely tiring, but Iola didn’t show any sign of it as he held her up.
He looked up at the huge dragon through the aquatic plants. They were in the middle of the lake, with nowhere to hide or escape, but his curiosity couldn’t be hidden.
“It’s the same dragon, right? There won’t be two dragons of the same species in such a small area.”
“Cough.”
“I think we’ve been flying for about eight minutes. Based on the dragon’s speed, it hasn’t come from too far. It seems the dragon accidentally moved us. Either it was carrying the box… or the rope must have gotten caught on its scales or claws.”
Iola deduced the situation accurately as he looked at the dragon drinking water and the mockingbird-like box still dangling from its claws.
“The back seems slightly scorched, but it’s not a big wound. I guess Moslin’s magic couldn’t kill the dragon.”
“Cough.”
“We were quite a distance away, so it might have lost some power, or maybe it missed at the last moment. But how likely is that? The dragon turned out much bigger than expected, so Moslin probably couldn’t handle it on her own. Single firepower has its limits.”
“Cough, cough.”
Continuing his cold analysis, Iola spoke while Viretta couldn’t stop coughing by his side. The lake water had flooded her eyes and nose.
“No one really trains lightning magic to the extreme... so even the firepower Moslin showed was impressive.”
“Uh, yeah, yeah.”
“Since it’s large, its hide must be much thicker. It seems it came here to drink. I guess the lightning strike didn’t sit well with it. Well, it can’t store water for long, just like people.”
“Whew, phew…”
“After drinking, do you think it can breathe fire? Will smoke come out even if it exhales now? I’m curious about how much it drinks, but there’s no way to measure the amount.”
“…”
“Oh, it’s already leaving. It’s flying off much sooner than expected. It’s starting to fly like that. The wings... Ah, like that.”
It seemed that Iola had a habit of organizing the information he observed while talking.
He was immersed in the cold lake water, but he was still talking. His arms firmly held Viretta.
“The dragon’s much gentler than I thought. It must have smelled us, but it just left us alone. Even though it was hit by lightning, it didn’t take its anger out on the surroundings. It’s almost like an angel.”
“…”
But still, was there really a need to keep staring at the dragon like this?
With all the water she swallowed, Viretta felt pain in her ears and nose, and she was annoyed that Iola was only focused on the dragon.
Viretta, who had her attention completely stolen by Iola, sulkily started boasting.
“Iola, I’m dying. If it continues like this, I’m going to die. The cold lake water is stealing my warmth…”
As she struggled and exaggerated, Iola immediately threw her over his shoulder.
“Ah!”
Iola, carrying the person from the water, quickly swam toward the shore.
“Ah, wow, wow, wow!”
It felt more attached than expected, and faster than she thought, so Viretta screamed continuously.
Iola quickly climbed onto the shore, placing Viretta on the ground.
The dragon had just finished drinking and flew away, and because the dragon had briefly landed, there was no sign of any predators either.
Everything happened so quickly that the situation hadn’t even fully registered.
“Are you okay? I’ll take action immediately.”
“You’re so fast…”
“I’m good at anything involving physical effort.”
If only this were boastfulness or arrogance, it would have been nice. But he never exaggerates his skills.
From swordsmanship to swimming, he was good at anything that required physical ability.
“Ugh.”
He felt inferior again.
Viretta, dropped onto the shore, forcibly spat out the water that had filled her nose and mouth. Normally, she would just shake it off and stand up, but now her body ached from being in such a bad condition.
As she spat out the foreign matter in her mouth and drained the water from her ears, a human shadow loomed in front of Viretta.
“Excuse me.”
Iola’s left hand grabbed Viretta’s chin.
