Chapter 145: Chapter 145: Exploring the Desert Cavern (Part 2)

"This is getting harder and harder! Shit! Watch out!"

I can hear Quentyn screaming and tackling Sonia away from a glob of lava coming at her. I already see it and am ready to block the incoming attack, but it is good that he is willing to protect his comrade.

I quickly cast a spell to heal them.

"[Seedling of Life]!"

A small plant appears on the ground and releases a wave of healing aura that heals all the frontline. After healing them, I quickly slam my staff and cast something.

"[Mud Wall]!"

A wall made of wall appears and separates us from the monster. I also cast another barrier in front of the [Mud Wall] to make it stronger.

"All right, people! We will rest here for thirty minutes."

"Oh, thank god!"

Quentyn falls to the ground, ignoring the hot ground. These armors Jul-Tan and Quentyn wear are truly fascinating. The one my companion and I are wearing also gives us high fire resistance, so their armor is not that rare for me, but it is fascinating that only one person makes it: a dwarf.

I can already see how the magic works differently than regular enchanted armor. If regular armor has its magic around it as if it was a second skin around it, that creates another effect, but the one Quentyn and Jul-Tan are wearing has its magic inside the armor as if they are blood veins.

I shake my head, take out our lunch, and give it to my companion and the others.

"While we are eating, I think it is time to talk about the next strategy. The first up to the third floor is full of massive monsters like Chimera and Wyvern. The monster in this place is full of smaller monsters, but that does not mean they are weak. So far, we have encountered an army of imp."

The other nods, and Quentyn says.

"They are not strong. Their stats are F across the board except for its speed, which is C."

I nod and say.

"Yes. That thing is annoying. They can fly and hurl a fireball that explodes when it touches any surface. However, the archer can take care of it. However, the vanguard will be a problem."

I take out two shields from my inventory and give them to Jullian and Jul-Tan.

"Jullian, I need you to be more defensive on this floor. Do you need to change your sword?"

"No, young master. I can still use my sword with one hand."

"Great."

I look at Jul-Tan and say,

"I know that you are an unarmed fighter, but I think it is more suitable for you to be defensive rather than running around because of how narrow this floor is."

"I can do that. However, can you give me another shield? I will focus on defense from now on."

I nod and take another identical shield. I give the shield to Jul-Tan and say.

"Focus on protecting the Flank while Jullian will be the one catching the monster’s attention."

"I can do that. Leave it to me."

"Thank you."

I take a bite of the sandwich and take out a note. It was the note where I wrote about the monster we have encountered so far. On the first floor is a giant centipede that can breathe fire and a three-meter tall wyvern standing near the portal, protecting it.

The first floor is a cavern with a massive land where we can run around to dodge the incoming attack.

The second floor is the same, but it has a higher ceiling. I think the ceiling is around thirty meters from the ground, and it lets the wyvern fly around. The second floor is hard to clear, but once you can take the wyvern to the ground, they are easy prey as their scale is not as tough as the centipede.

At the end of the floor is a massive bird that Quentyn called Roc. It was a giant fire-breath bird with a sharp claw and beak. They are solitary birds and only hunt alone.

And that information is important because the third floor is the same as the second one but with Roc instead of Wyvern. Because of its solitary nature, we have an easier time hunting them, and we can sneak around Roc’s nest and reach the portal where no monster can be seen.

Then we came to this place. The floor is one narrow road for who knows how long with an army of monsters on our way. The first one is a lava slime. They are not much, but if not for our specialized weapon, a regular iron and steel will be melted when we try to destroy the core of the slime.

The second army of monsters is a combination of lava slimes and imps. So far, they are the only monsters in this place. However, the number is increasing the deeper we go into the floor.

"What about us, captain? Should we start on the defensive?"

I look at Quentyn and think for a few seconds. I nod my head and say.

"Yes. We will go on full defensive with the archers as our main means of offense."

I take out another two tower shields and give them to Quentyn and Sonia.

"You two will be our shield. Without too much room to move around, I think it is time for us to go full defensive. With the four of you standing together, we did not need to worry about monsters going through, and I have an easier time healing you guys."

Quentyn thinks about my plan and nods his head.

"Yeah. With the two of us moving around, you will have a hard time healing us. We did not have much use in this kind of place. I think making a tighter formation is the right decision."

"Thank you. What about the other? Does anyone want to say more? Or should we follow this plan?"

Seeing there is nothing, I nod and say.

"Then we will use this plan for this kind of floor."

I take out three quivers full of special arrows from my inventory and give them to Jonathan, Silva, and Hilda.

"Use these arrows because they are imbued with the power of water. You three are in the most vital position in this fight, and I need you to focus on attacking the enemy. I will be the one protecting you. Focus on attacking and ignore the other."

The three of them nod their heads and say.

"Yes, my lord!"

"Got it, dear."

"Yes! Leave it to me, Gwyn!"

I nod and say.

"Then that is all. Eat, drink, or even bathe because we will move again in... twenty-five minutes."

"Air attack!"

I bark a command. I can see the vanguard raise their shield, and I create a wall made of mud to block the incoming attack while they are blocking the attack coming from the back, where the slime throws a blob of lava at us.

I cast an Area Healing spell to heal the burning wound the lava caused to the vanguards, and after the air attack stops, I shout.

"Prepare!"

The vanguard put their shields in front of them, and I canceled the mud wall spell. When the wall comes down, they quickly charge forward with their shield in hand to block the march of the monster. Quentyn, Sonia, and Jullian stab the monster with their weapon while Jul-Tan holds the biggest slime back.

While the archers mostly attack the imps, I focus on the slime. I learned that slime is weak against magic attacks. I did not need to aim for the core and directly attack the body, unlike a physical attack in which the slime is immune unless the attack hits its core.

"[Starlight]!"

Twenty beams of light pierce through the slimes and kill at least forty of them. [Starlight] is a level seven offensive spell that can grow according to the player’s level. At this level, I can create twenty beams of light that do a good amount of damage.

This spell is not popular for [Astrologian] players because the damage is not as big as the latter spells. Not only that, the cooldown, while quick, has a cap of three seconds, unlike a certain spell that can reach a one-second cooldown.

"A little bit more! Hang in there! I can already see the portal!"

At my word, the vanguard roars and starts pushing the monster slowly.

"[Typhon Blessing]!"

I give another buff at the vanguard to increase their strength and durability. While waiting for my [Starlight] to be done, seven cards appear from my starglobe, and throw it at the enemy. When it hits the enemy, it explodes and kills a bunch of the slimes and imps.

This is [Astrologian]’s basic attack. It did not do much damage, especially when I’m using a low-level starglobe, but it will do for now.

"One more push!"

I shout, and when we are able to push the last line of monsters, we can see the portal in front of us. After splitting the monster in half, Quentyn and Sonia take the one on the left, while Jul-Tan and Jullian take the one on the right.

After another minute of fighting, we finally managed to kill the last monster.

"We won!"
