Chapter 137: Chapter 137: Taking Quest in Mantah City

My companion and I decided to explore the city for a little. We even visit the temple of this place where they worship the God of the Sun and the Goddess of the River. If this is my previous life, I will think of them as... fiction, you know? As an entity that did not exist and only exists in the mind of the believer.

However, after being given a second chance by an unknown entity or god, I’m now a believer that gods exist. Just like the rest of my family, I’m a worshiper of Goddess Alena, but I’m open-minded to other religions and will not disrespect them. That is just moronic behavior.

Anyway, we pay our respect and even donate some gold to the temple. The priest and nun are kind enough to show us around and even give us some of the fruit they grow on the back of their temple to be sold and use the money to maintain the temple.

I really like oranges from this place. They are sweet, sweeter than the ones in the Southern Continent.

Anyway, after visiting the temple, we go to the adventurer guild, where we quickly go to the receptionist and show our ID.

"Welcome back, Sun and Moon Wolves."

Sun and Moon Wolves. That is the name of our party. I know I did not have a great naming sense, as I named our party after Fenrir and Okami. Well, I don’t care because I think this is a great name.

"Anyway, we are here to report on a job done."

"Do you have proof?"

"Of course."

I give the receptionist the medallion the king gave me, and she takes it to the back room. While waiting for her to return, I look around the room and notice that this floor is more of a pub than a transaction room like the adventurer guild in Ulian City.

I can see this building connected to the two buildings around it. The one on the left is where the mission board is located, while the one on the right is the one connected to the butchering room where the other adventurers sell their prey.

After waiting a minute, I saw the receptionist return with a crate. She places them on the counter and opens them up. I blink for a few seconds when I see the crate is full of gold. I can hear the people around us start to whisper about the amount of gold we just got from one mission.

"This is one hundred thousand gold coins from the mission. If there is anything we can do, please tell us."

I look her right in the eyes and say.

"Next time, ask us to go to the back room. It is rather unfortunate to have a good adventurer disappear somewhere in the desert because the shiny golds lure them."

I can see her get pale at my implication and about to say something. However, I ignore her and walk to the mission room where we will take some missions.

"Alright, let’s pick some quest before we have the feast. Take what you want, and we can discuss them together."

The six of us spread out and looked at the mission from C-rank to A-rank mission. I look at the B-rank mission and read the missions one by one. After a minute or two of reading, I pick a hunting B-rank mission.

After picking one mission, I walk back and see my companion already waiting for me at the nearby long table. I sit in between Hilda and Silva and put the quest on the table.

"Alright, what do you guys get? Jullian, you go first."

My knight, a best friend and guard, nods his head and says.

"I decided to take an A-rank hunting quest. A village near Mantah asks for help in hunting a desert Lion around their village. We need to hunt three Desert Lions to complete the quest. The village is located in the Northwest of Mantah City. It takes three hours of camel riding from this city."

I take the paper and turn it around to read the description of the Desert Lion. They are massive lion-like monsters that stand two meters tall and can control sand. They are pack animals that hunt in groups, usually two or more, and they use their sand manipulation to create a small sand storm to cover their body and jump at the prey when they are panicking. Their weakness is water. Their movement will be slowed when they are soaked, and their sand manipulation also gets weaker when they are soaked.

Sadly, water is not something you can find in the desert.

"Jonathan, go ahead."

"Yes, my lord! The mission I take is an A-rank mission, a hunting mission as well. The city guard spots a giant vulture-like fly to the nearby mountain. The guard wants us to hunt the flying monster before it can wreak havoc on the countryside."

I take the paper from Jonathan and read the description of the monster. The monster is called Hunter Vulture. It was named that because of its behavior of hunting humans rather than eating them when they die like a normal vulture.

They are fast hunters. They use their sharp talon and claws to hunt their prey. Their hunt tactic is grabbing their prey and flying high before dropping them to the ground. It was a painful way to die. What makes matters worse, they are strong as well. They can carry up to seven hundred kilograms. This thing can carry a fat camel.

"Sonia, what about you, dear?"

"I picked a B-rank mission, Father. It was an escort mission to guard a local healer to gather medical herbs growing in the oasis in the north. We can take them every morning, and we will be back before the sun goes down. We can take this and return for the feast. If we take this quest, we can go in an hour after we inform the healer we are taking her quest."

I take the paper and read the description of the mission. The one putting this mission is a healer who is good at potion making, and she wants to gather medical herbs that grow in the oasis, but sadly, the oasis where these herbs grow is overrun by monsters, and she needs a guard to ensure she is alive.

The monster in the area is not too strong. The only reason it was B-rank instead of C-rank is because of the amount of monsters we can encounter.

"Silva?"

"The same as Sonia, dear. An escort mission, but it is a C-rank mission that escorts a family of four to their village. Their village is located in the Southwest of Mantah City, and we can get there in three hours of camel raiding."

I take the paper and read it. The one posting this quest is a father who goes here to pray in the biggest temple in the country, and now it is time for him and his family to return back home. Just like Sonia’s mission, we can go back before the sun goes down, but unlike Sonia’s, this quest is a little bit faster, and we can take another quick mission.

I look at Hilda and say.

"What about yours, Hilda?"

"A hunting mission. A quick C-rank mission to hunt a group of desert goblins near the village of the man posting the quest that Silva takes. To complete the mission, we need to hunt ten of them." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

I take the paper and read it for a few seconds. This is easy enough.

"Anyway, the mission I take is an investigation mission. A group of adventurers found foul energy coming from the underground. The guild suspects it is a dungeon forming and wants to send someone to investigate it. We only need to confirm whether it was a dungeon or something else and inform the guild. This is a B-rank mission because there is a chance of a monster attacking us."

A dungeon is a place where massive corrupted energy condenses to create a dungeon core that creates a mini Void Crack to summon monsters into the world. Adventurers need to destroy them before the core gets bigger.

Cunningham County is lucky enough that there is rarely any place where corrupted energy condensed to create a Dungeon Core. However, there is no need to say there is none. There is one place, a cave inside a mountain that contains a dungeon core. Lucky for us, the soldiers manage to destroy it, and I purify the area from the corrupted energy.

"So, what do you guys think? Which mission should we take?"

After thinking for a few seconds, Jullian is the first one to say something.

"Young master, what about we take the three missions at once? The first one will be the quest I take, and the rest is the combination of Lady Silvanna and Lady Hildegard. We can complete them all before the sun goes down."

I look at the others, who nod in agreement and smile a little.

"Then it is decided. We will take these three."
