I Transmigrated Into A Fantasy World To Farm And Build Houses!-Chapter 157: Gifts for Everyone
The whole family woke up in the pleasant warmth of the large earthen bed. Evan and Leo, the "smallest" members, were prioritized to share the cloud-light, fluffy feather blanket, while the others curled up in thick animal hides.
"Hey Eric, this blanket of yours is really amazing," Michael praised, his hand enjoying the feel of the soft fabric. "It’s so light yet so warm, much better than a cotton blanket!"
He vividly remembered the day Eric and Max had struggled with a huge pile of chicken feathers. At the time, Michael wondered what on earth they were doing; who knew the finished product would be so wonderful.
Every year when they followed the caravan to the Red Grass tribe and saw every Ox-Head tribe family had warm cotton blankets, every Snow Wolf yearned for them. Everyone hoped the cubs in their tribe wouldn’t have to huddle in the cold winter.
Now, this was great. The blanket Eric made seemed even lighter and warmer than a cotton one, and the material was just easy-to-find wild chicken feathers. Michael silently resolved to try and hunt more wild chickens on the next trip, to gather lots of feathers to make blankets for his mother and siblings.
"It’s true, it’s comfortable," Eric replied. "But making it is exhausting. The two of us wrestled with it for a whole day just to finish one. If only we had cotton, making blankets would be much faster."
As he spoke, he became dreamy again, his gaze distant. He didn’t know if the Hailun merchant caravan would bring cotton seeds. If only the tribe could grow their own vast, white fields of cotton, that would be wonderful.
Then, he would have cotton fabric to sew clothes, and cotton to make thick, warm blankets. To him, nothing could replace the feeling of being wrapped in a moderately heavy, cozy cotton blanket, bringing a sense of security like being home. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
"We can grow cotton too?" Luci, who had been listening silently, asked in surprise.
"Of course," Eric replied immediately. "If humans can grow it, we can too. I’m just not sure if the climate here is suitable for cotton plants. If it doesn’t grow, we’ll have to rely on trading in the future."
Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but worry. After all, his only so-called farming experience was limited to a few pots of scallions and some garlic bulbs grown for fun on a balcony...
Just then, Evan, who had been silent, suddenly spoke: "I can use magic to increase the germination rate and vitality of the seeds."
Eric’s brain immediately lit up. That’s right! How could he forget Evan was a magician! Although his nature magic probably wasn’t as strong as the Elf Funa’s, it would definitely be a great help.
"I really have a knack for picking up talented people!" Eric exclaimed happily. "First, I picked up Luban who knows how to forge iron pots and kitchen knives, and now I’ve picked up Evan who knows nature magic."
Michael, lying next to him, burst out laughing: "I wonder what other amazing things you’ll pick up next time. It looks like I’ll have to help you build a bigger house next year."
In the darkness, Eric just quietly rolled his eyes, a slight curve on his lips.
Not until the morning sunlight crept through the crack in the door did Leo rub his eyes, wake up, and discover that his beloved brother had returned.
The lion cub let out a joyous yelp and shot off like a small, golden-furred bullet, slamming into Eric’s arms.
"Brother, you’re back!" Leo excitedly rubbed his head against Eric’s chest, his small tail wagging furiously behind him like a pinwheel.
Eric had to brace himself to withstand the lion cub’s loving tackle. He had to grab onto Max, who was standing nearby, to keep from falling backward.
"Alright, alright, I’m back." He laughed loudly, lifting Leo up. "I brought delicious presents for you!"
Leo was now far different from the scruffy, gray-furred kitten with timid eyes from before. Under Eric’s dedicated care, his beast form had nearly doubled in size, his fur golden and smooth. Even in human form, he was visibly taller.
Being well-fed and cherished with love, Leo’s eyes were now always bright and full of life, finally having the appearance of a healthy, lively beast cub.
He affectionately rubbed against Eric for a while longer before finally jumping down, transforming into a handsome youth: "Brother, who was in my arms just now?"
Eric quickly dressed Leo, a layer of hemp clothing inside and a thick animal hide outside. He felt a bit embarrassed realizing he still hadn’t had time to sew new clothes for the cub from the cotton fabric he’d traded for.
"Ah, that’s a little sister from the Red Luck Snake tribe I picked up on the road. I couldn’t find her family, so we’ll take care of her for a while."
He took the opportunity to teach Leo a safety lesson: "You mustn’t run off to play by yourself like that in the future, understand? If you get lost and can’t find your way home, you’ll be picked up by someone else. Or worse, you’ll be eaten by a magical beast."
Leo nodded vigorously after hearing this. On his small face, his clear-as-a-stream eyes shone with seriousness, making Eric unable to hold back a laugh.
He took out a seashell comb and gently combed Leo’s hair. After being combed, his golden hair became even glossier, shimmering like golden silk in the morning sun.
"Brother, this is great!" Leo cheered, taking the comb to examine it. "It doesn’t hurt at all when combing, way better than a thorn bush!"
Previously, when their fur got tangled, the Snow Wolves often had to find thorn bushes and use the sharp thorns to detangle, which was both painful and easily broke the fur.
The comb, with each tooth smoothed by Eric, was on a completely different level. It glided through, feeling like a scalp massage, extremely pleasant.
Luci had also woken up early. Eric saw her holding the small comb, fondly combing her hair over and over. A moment later, she even took the large comb and ran back to her old house to "style" the fur of her beast form.
"Oh, Michael." Eric called out as he entered the storage room. "This comb is for Anna. Remember to bring it to her when you go home."
He took out an identical set of large and small combs and gave it to Michael.
Michael laughed heartily, ruffling Eric’s hair: "No wonder my mom keeps praising you. You went so far away and still remembered to bring her a gift."
Praising me? Eric was bewildered. I thought that grumpy aunt didn’t like me at all, she even criticized me for being as weak as a chicken...
"Oh right, there’s also this bag of pearls." He thought for a moment, then took out another cloth bag.
He didn’t dare to imagine the scene if the two aunts met and the gifts were lopsided. It probably wouldn’t just be heaven-and-earth-shaking, but a full-blown blizzard.
At the beach, thanks to Max and Michael’s help, he had stockpiled countless pearl-containing shells. Here, they weren’t too precious because the sea beastmen had even higher-grade pearls with special uses.
But with the eyes of a modern person, Eric knew these quail-egg-sized pearls were already top-grade. In his world, they could cause fierce bidding wars, but here, they were just shiny ornaments. Even so, the female beastmen still loved them.
Eric had also prepared a bag for Grass, which he would bring over to her later.
After finishing organizing, he brought the gifts prepared for Joseph and the other Dwarves, and took the opportunity to check on the progress of the farm tools for the Ox-Head tribe. Max hadn’t been home in a long time, so he had to go check on the warriors’ training. Michael took his gifts and went home.
Usually, Leo would have run off to find his friends by this time, but today, because Eric was back, the cub stuck to him like glue, following him all the way to the Dwarves’ living area.
As soon as they arrived, the bustling atmosphere of labor hit them.
Except for Bruno, who was engrossed in knitting a woolen sweater, the other Dwarves were all energetically forging. The clang of hammers and the shouts of encouragement rang out incessantly.
Amidst the freezing weather, Eric could see faces beaded with sweat from hard work.
He walked towards their residential area and soon stood before Joseph’s door.
