I Stepped on a Bug, and the System Says I Slayed a Dragon?-Chapter 59: The Host Easily Slays an Emperor Level Star Beast, Truly a God Incarnate
"According to the latest news report, at approximately 7:53 PM, a major traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Tingyuan Road and Ai’ai Road... It has resulted in two deaths and one injury. The cause of the accident is still under investigation..."
"We advise all commuters in the area to find an alternate route..."
....
A light drizzle began to fall from the gloomy sky.
The radio in the police car crackled, broadcasting the latest traffic updates.
Dozens of armored vehicles from the Star Martial Police Bureau sped down the road, their sirens wailing and engines roaring as they cut through the endless curtain of rain.
Moments later, they arrived at the scene of the accident and completely surrounded the vehicle at fault.
"Everyone, search the area! Don’t overlook anything suspicious!"
The Chief Commander keyed his radio, calmly directing his units as he got out of his vehicle and strode over to inspect the situation.
The scene was brutal.
A sedan had rear-ended a heavy-duty truck.
The driver had been killed instantly. A steel bar had punched through the cabin and pierced his skull, pinning the back of his head to the headrest in a mangled mess of blood and gore.
Just then, an officer investigating the accident approached the Commander, held out a work tablet, and began his report:
"Sir, this death is similar to the one at the other intersection. In both cases, the cause of death is unknown."
"Show me the surveillance footage."
The Commander frowned at the driver’s corpse, then took the tablet from the officer and began reviewing the surveillance video from the intersection.
The footage showed the driver in the front seat talking and laughing with his passengers. The atmosphere in the car was completely relaxed.
But in the very next second...
The driver glanced at the traffic light ahead and stepped on the gas. Suddenly, his face went pale and rigid, and he collapsed onto the steering wheel!
It happened so suddenly, no one could have predicted it.
The vehicle, now out of control, skidded until it slammed into the heavy-duty truck with a terrifying shriek of twisting metal.
’The same cause of death again...’
The Commander stared at the video, completely baffled.
One moment, the driver was perfectly fine, chatting with his passengers.
The next, he was dead at the wheel?
How could something so absurd possibly happen?
Moreover, everything about this case was strange.
Similar incidents had been occurring periodically.
Sometimes in the suburbs, other times in the bustling city; the locations were completely random.
The Commander had even joined forces with the Library’s Hall Master and Elder Li to trace the incidents back to their source.
But no matter how hard they searched, they always came up empty-handed.
At this thought, the Chief Commander’s expression grew grim.
The recent Bloodthirsty Leeches incident was still fresh in his memory. The safety of the citizens was the Star Martial Police Bureau’s top priority.
And as Commander, he couldn’t just sit back and do nothing. He had to find a way to eliminate any and all threats.
With this in mind, he handed the tablet back to the officer. "Have the victim’s family been notified?" he asked.
"Yes, sir. They’ve been notified and are about three minutes out."
"Send a few officers to speak with them."
The Commander’s voice was grave. "Pay close attention to the victim’s condition. If possible, convince the family to agree to a cremation."
"Understood, sir."
.......
「Meanwhile.」
After getting home from work, Qin Yang was lazing on his bed, boredly scrolling through the news on his phone.
The sound of running water came from the kitchen.
Wearing an apron, Xiaobai stood on a stool in front of the sink, busy washing vegetables. Every so often, she shot a resentful glare at Qin Yang.
’Hmph, he’s on his phone again!’
Xiaobai glared at the vegetables in the sink. With a sudden burst of force from her delicate white hands, she snapped a stalk of bok choy in two.
’So annoying!’
’Why does he get to play on his phone all day...’
’While I, a great Fairy, have to stand here washing vegetables?’
’It’s not fair!’
’It’s not fair at all!’
Fuming, Xiaobai slapped the water with her slender hands. Her two beast ears perked up, eavesdropping on the videos Qin Yang was watching to alleviate her own boredom.
"...intersection of Tingyuan Road and Ai’ai Road... major traffic accident... has resulted in two deaths..."
When he came across that video, Qin Yang’s eyes lit up, and he shot up in bed.
’It’s finally here!’
Qin Yang was ecstatic. He stared at the screen, quickly memorizing the accident’s location.
’The Soul-devouring Insect showed up faster than I expected.’
’After all, a beast is just a beast. It lives by primitive instinct and lacks true intelligence.’
’I only just disturbed it yesterday, and today it’s already shown up in the city again.’
’This is the perfect chance to test the power of my new creation, the Soul-Cutting Sword!’
With that thought, Qin Yang put down his phone, slipped on his sandals, and hurried to the door.
"Watch the house, Xiaobai! I’m heading out for a bit!"
"Where are you going, Mas—"
Before Xiaobai could finish her question, the door slammed shut with a BANG, cutting her off.
"You—!"
Xiaobai’s face flushed red. She gritted her teeth and shook her little fist angrily at the door. But the thought that Qin Yang would be back later forced her to return to washing vegetables, feeling wronged.
’Can’t be helped.’
’When you live under someone else’s roof, you have to lower your head.’
.......
Out on the streets, the rain began to fall harder.
The world was a hazy mist. Bloodstains on the pavement were washed away by the downpour, running into the sewers along the sides of the road.
Using the Seven-Star Dragon Roaming Step, Qin Yang arrived under a tree not far from the accident, observing the scene.
At this moment, several Star Police officers stood guard, having cordoned off the area with orange-yellow police tape. They stood like iron towers in the rain, an impassable barrier.
’So the authorities are on the scene.’
Qin Yang’s gaze shifted.
It moved from the guards to the traffic light cycling through its colors.
Or more precisely, to the Soul-devouring Insect hiding on top of it...
Through his Spiritual Power, he could sense the insect lying dormant in the heavy rain, completely still.
Even the falling raindrops passed right through its body, as if it were intangible.
"DING! Warning! Emperor Level Star Beast detected: Soul-devouring Insect!"
"Host is advised to flee immediately to preserve your life..."
Qin Yang ignored the system’s warning, focusing all his attention on the target.
The rain poured down from the dark, overcast sky.
His Spiritual Power, masked by the drumming of the rain, spread out silently.
A powerful killing intent, amplified tenfold, converged around the Soul-devouring Insect. It gradually condensed into a sharp longsword, hanging suspended in the air above the creature.
This was a hunt in the rain.
Qin Yang slowly exhaled. He held his breath, focused his mind, and seized the perfect, fleeting moment. With a single thought, he unleashed his Spiritual Power.
"Fall."
At his understated command, the Soul-Cutting Sword solidified and plunged downwards.
SCHLICK!
It was the beautiful sound of a blade piercing "flesh."
The kill was complete!
All signs of life instantly vanished from the Soul-devouring Insect. Its physical form slowly faded away in the rain, but it didn’t dissipate completely. It left behind a transparent pearl that pulsed with a dense Soul Power.
’Huh? The old bastard actually dropped loot?’
Delighted, Qin Yang was just about to release his Star Force to retrieve it.
But before he could get a closer look...
The system’s voice suddenly rang out!
"Oh my god! Host, you dispatched an Emperor Level Star Beast with such ease! You truly are a god descended to the mortal realm!"
"Host has been detected killing an Emperor Level Star Beast: the Soul-devouring Insect!"
"Reward: Fifty-fold amplification..."
