I Rule Fortune-Telling Livestreams-Chapter 46: Evil Spirits Should Die
Shen Zhiyao wanted to ponder it further, but she didn’t know where to begin.
A moment later, his brow drooped slightly, concealing all light. The searing glance vanished in an instant, as if it had all been an illusion.
He remained standing behind the old man, completely unassuming.
But Shen Zhiyao knew that man was anything but ordinary.
Seeing Lin Qiang enter with two strangers, Li Kerun looked displeased. "Brother Qiang, what are you doing here? Who are these two? Why did you bring them over without saying a word to me first?"
The old man, hearing Li Kerun’s discourteous tone, let out a cold snort.
Lin Qiang quickly interjected, "Don’t be rude! This is a master from Wudang Mountain, and his assistant. I had to pull a lot of strings and call in countless favors to get them here to solve your problem."
Li Kerun was stunned. "Wudang Mountain? Are they from the Chen Family?"
Master Chen stroked his beard and said proudly, "I am a direct disciple of the Wudang Mountain Master."
Li Kerun was even more astonished. ’A disciple of the Mountain Master! He must be an eminent master whom most people never even get to see!’
The reputation of Wudang Mountain was widely known, at least to some extent. It held the highest status in the fields of Metaphysics, the Eight Diagrams, and Wind-Lord Qimen, and was also the only sect officially recognized by the government.
Legend has it that during times of war, when the common people were living in misery, the Daoists of Wudang Mountain descended en masse. They used the Tai Chi and the Eight Diagrams to fight foreign enemies and purify the resentful energy of vengeful souls.
In those days, the resentful energy of the dead was overwhelming. It was the Wudang Mountain Master who, with his power alone, purified this energy. Only then did the resentment of those who had died tragic deaths dissipate, allowing the common people to live in peace.
But times have changed. No one knows if the Wudang Mountain Master is still alive. Even if he were, he would be well over a hundred years old by now.
In recent years, the disciples of Wudang Mountain have remained mysterious and low-key, so the public knows very little about them.
Those who do know of them hold them in the highest esteem.
Even the Outer Disciples of the sect are treated as honored guests by the wealthy and are cherished.
It’s said that true direct disciples rarely leave the mountain. When they do, it’s at the request of powerful political figures to handle important matters. Ordinary people would be hard-pressed to even catch a glimpse of them.
And now, this Master Chen was standing right before her—a disciple of the Mountain Master himself. His status and standing were clearly extraordinary.
Li Kerun immediately humbled herself, bowing to apologize for her earlier rudeness.
Master Chen looked toward the top of the stairs. "Mr. Lin has already explained the situation. It’s nothing more than a Spiritual Child and an evil spirit. Not difficult to resolve. I will go and take care of them."
With that, he pulled out a piece of talisman paper. "In which direction are they? Lead the way. I will not allow such a menace to remain in this world and bring harm to humanity!"
Just as Li Kerun was about to lead him upstairs, Shen Zhiyao stopped her. "Hold it!"
She walked up to Master Chen and examined the talisman. "Is that a Ghost Suppressing Talisman?"
"It is!" Master Chen said, looking at Shen Zhiyao with a smug expression.
Ghost Suppressing Talismans are not uncommon in the Cultivation World. However, in this information age, Spiritual Power is scarce. Since Ghost Suppressing Talismans require a great deal of Spiritual Power, they have become a rare sight.
Possessing a single Ghost Suppressing Talisman was enough to command respect anywhere.
Shen Zhiyao discerned the talisman’s function with a single glance. "If a ghost soul is suppressed with a Ghost Suppressing Talisman, its Soul Power will dissipate after three days, and it will perish. Am I correct?"
Master Chen chuckled. "So you’re not entirely ignorant. This Ghost Suppressing Talisman of mine was created by the ancestors of Xuanmen. Even the most powerful ghost soul would be denied reincarnation for all eternity!"
Shen Zhiyao turned to Li Kerun. "Did you hear him clearly? Denied reincarnation for all eternity! That little ghost has been with you for more than twenty years. Can you bear to see him suffer that fate? Moreover, for those three days, he will feel his entire being burning as if by fire, suffering in agony before his soul finally shatters in despair." 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Li Kerun’s face filled with reluctance and pity.
Lin Qiang asked, annoyed, "Who is this?"
Li Kerun replied, "This is a Metaphysic streamer I found on Douyin Live Stream. I asked her to come and handle the matter with the Spiritual Child."
Lin Qiang said disapprovingly, "You’re getting desperate and trying anything. Hiring an internet streamer to solve this? What if she goes around blabbing about it? Do you want to ruin your career in the entertainment industry?"
Li Kerun quickly explained, "We’ve already signed a non-disclosure agreement. She won’t."
With that, Lin Qiang turned to Shen Zhiyao with an arrogant air. "Master Chen is here now, so you’re no longer needed. Get lost!"
Shen Zhiyao ignored Lin Qiang, her cold gaze fixed on Li Kerun. "Do you really intend to kill the Spiritual Child?"
Li Kerun’s eyes grew red. "I have no choice. I can’t let him hurt anyone else."
Lin Qiang flared up, questioning Shen Zhiyao, "What are you, some kind of bleeding-heart saint? The little ghost is already out of control and turning on us! If we don’t destroy him, are we supposed to just wait for him to kill us all?"
He then turned to Li Kerun. "There’s no need to be soft-hearted with this kind of vile creature! When it was willing to help you, it was a god, a benefactor. But now that it’s turned on you, it’s an evil ghost from the abyss!"
Master Chen added, "When a Spiritual Child turns on its master, it will eventually devour their flesh and blood. The best way to deal with such a thing is to make its soul shatter and scatter, making it disappear from your world completely."
He then glared at Shen Zhiyao. "Young lady, kindness is a virtue, but excessive kindness is just foolishness disguised as compassion! Don’t think you can come in here and boss everyone around just because you have a few followers online. Let me tell you, subduing ghostly beings is not as simple as you imagine. They won’t listen to reason or care about your feelings!"
Shen Zhiyao’s gaze passed over the old man and locked onto the assistant behind him. "I don’t intend to suppress them. I was thinking of a solution that’s best for everyone. For instance, we could perform a deliverance and allow him to reincarnate. That way, it won’t affect the living, and his soul won’t be shattered."
This time, however, the young assistant didn’t raise his head to meet her gaze. He just stood there silently, looking for all the world like a simple assistant.
"Deliverance?" Master Chen burst out laughing. "I knew you were a fool! Do you think this Spiritual Child is some ordinary ghost? You think you can just perform a deliverance because you feel like it? They are forged from pure resentment. They’re impossible to deliver!"
"Just because you can’t doesn’t mean no one can," Shen Zhiyao retorted with a cold scoff, then said to Li Kerun, "I can help you perform the deliverance!"
"Stop spouting nonsense!" Master Chen said with contempt. "Do you think deliverance is a child’s game? If it fails, just try again? A deliverance requires the spirit’s willing cooperation! Otherwise, you’ll just agitate its resentment. Once that resentment explodes, no one will be able to suppress it!"
"That’s enough!" Lin Qiang snapped impatiently. "Alright, that’s it. You, uh, streamer, or whatever. You should leave! We have a real master here now, we don’t need you. Why are you still running your mouth? Get out!"
Shen Zhiyao turned to look at Li Kerun again.
Li Kerun hesitated for a moment before saying, "Miss Shen, I’m sorry you came all this way for nothing. But I’ll still pay you the fee we agreed upon for your trouble."
"I won’t accept any money if I haven’t solved the problem." Shen Zhiyao wanted to help, but if they insisted on refusing, she wouldn’t force the issue.
Just before she left, however, she couldn’t resist taking a peek at Li Kerun’s fate. And that one glance revealed a problem.
