I Rule Fortune-Telling Livestreams-Chapter 16: Plagued by Bad Luck
Shen Zhiyao added, "Gifting Carnivals is forbidden in this stream!"
Shen Zhiyao wasn’t in it for the money. The main reason she streamed was to gain followers and harness their Belief Power for her Cultivation.
She just wanted people to like her and follow her.
As for any excess wealth, accepting too much would entangle her in karma, which wasn’t a good thing for her. That’s why she had to set a limit on gifts.
[Hahaha, Reckless Young Master Jin finally showed his face, only to get the cold shoulder.]
[I’ve never seen a streamer so principled. She actually doesn’t want gifts.]
[Who in the world doesn’t love money? She’s just playing hard to get, trying to build up her public image!]
[Reckless Young Master Jin probably doesn’t know yet, but this streamer was just clout-chasing off Zhou Ye not long ago.]
[Yeah, she used photoshopped pictures to pose as Zhou Ye’s girlfriend and even stalked him to his home. She nearly scared him to death and almost ruined his career! It’s absolutely insane!]
[Now she’s trying to build up this new image just to hook a rich heir. Does she really think the internet has amnesia?!]
[Exactly! You bitch, get off Douyin Live Stream!]
At some point, the stream was flooded with malicious comments, many of them nothing but vulgar insults.
Plenty of people also spoke up for Shen Zhiyao, posting comments like "Don’t be a simp."
But there were too many paid trolls in the stream, and that comment was quickly buried under an avalanche of hate.
Shen Zhiyao hadn’t planned on paying them any mind, but when she tried to do live readings, she kept getting matched with these same trolls.
Once they were on the call, they didn’t ask for a reading—they just opened their mouths and started spewing profanities, cursing out eighteen generations of her ancestors.
With all the chaos, it became impossible to do proper readings.
Shen Zhiyao’s Cultivation had improved slightly over the past few days, enough for her to cast a minor Curse Technique. Just as she was about to retaliate with one, the public chat suddenly went quiet.
The viewer count plummeted to five thousand.
Then, a message from Reckless Young Master Jin appeared in the chat:
[Reckless Young Master Jin: Who the hell gave you the balls to cause trouble here? Don’t you know Shen Zhiyao is under my protection? Guess you people won’t know your place until I use some of my methods!]
As he typed that, the corners of his mouth curled up to his ears. ’You might not care about gifts, but this ought to move you to tears!’
So he typed, feigning magnanimity:
[No need to thank me. It was nothing. I, Reckless Young Master Jin, have a habit of doing good deeds without seeking recognition or reward. No thanks necessary!]
But he didn’t get the tearful display of gratitude from Shen Zhiyao he was expecting. She remained seated, as aloof as ever, and let out a soft sigh. "Fine, then. Thanks."
Reckless Young Master Jin: ’Is that any way to thank someone?’
With the trolls gone, the public chat was finally readable again.
"Let’s not waste any more time," Shen Zhiyao said. "I’ll start over with the first reading."
Soon, a middle-aged man appeared on the screen. His username was Gan Enxin.
Gan Enxin was dressed in a suit and leaning back in an easy chair, his bearing dignified.
But his face was haggard, and he looked as though he had a lot on his mind.
"Are the fortune-tellings on this stream really accurate?" Gan Enxin asked.
The man wasn’t one of Shen Zhiyao’s fans. He was simply at the end of his rope, had thought of getting a reading, and so had clicked on the most popular stream.
Before Shen Zhiyao could say anything, the viewers in the chat began to fill him in:
[You’re obviously new here. You haven’t seen how accurate the streamer’s readings are. One thousand per reading, no charge if she’s wrong!]
[The streamer’s the real deal, but most of her predictions are bad news.]
[Who says she only predicts bad news? She saved that guy who was on the verge of sudden death yesterday. Wasn’t that a good thing?]
[Hurry up and tell us what you want a reading for! I can’t wait!]
[Come on! Just tell her what you want to know! The suspense is killing me!]
Seeing everyone’s positive comments, Gan Enxin began to speak slowly:
"I’m a businessman. For the past few years, everything was smooth sailing, and I managed to build up a sizable fortune. But for the last two years, it feels like I’ve been cursed with bad luck. My company, which was doing perfectly fine, has been hit by one disaster after another, and now it’s on the verge of bankruptcy."
"The day before yesterday, I found out I have cancer. The pathology report comes out tomorrow. If it’s early-stage, I might be okay, but if it’s late-stage, I’m in serious trouble. Streamer, if you’re the real deal, please help me turn my luck around! Once I’m better, I’ll definitely give you a huge reward!" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
[The poor man! Streamer, help him! Please save him!]
[How is she supposed to help with that?! She’s a mystic, not a doctor!]
[I feel for you, sir. But in your situation, you’re past the point of fortune-telling. You should find a good doctor and live out your remaining years in peace.]
Shen Zhiyao only needed a single glance at Gan Enxin to read his fate.
She shook her head and sighed helplessly. "You’ve brought this upon yourself. I can’t help you turn your luck around."
Gan Enxin had come just to give it a shot, figuring he had nothing to lose. He never expected that not only would the streamer refuse to help, she’d even scold him for bringing this on himself!
"If you don’t have the ability, just say so, and I won’t get a reading! Why are you insulting me? Was that necessary? If everyone didn’t say your readings were accurate, I wouldn’t have even bothered with you!"
With that, he moved to end the call, but then he heard Shen Zhiyao say, "I can’t turn your luck around, but I can help you find the source of your misfortune."
Gan Enxin was skeptical. "Really?"
Shen Zhiyao nodded. "I can find the source of your misfortune for you right now. Are you sure you want to know?"
"I’m sure, positive!"
’As long as I can find the source of my misfortune, I can turn my luck around. My fortune will change for the better.’
’Tomorrow’s pathology report will definitely bring good news!’
’My company, on the brink of collapse, might even recover.’
"Leave this room," Shen Zhiyao said, "and go into the room across from it. The answer you want is in there."
Gan Enxin, who had been skeptical just a moment ago, was now starting to believe.
’She actually knew I live in a Beijing Courtyard House, and that there’s another room across from this one! It seems she really does have some genuine skill.’
Soon enough, Gan Enxin walked to the room opposite.
He opened the door, revealing a bedroom suite.
Gan Enxin turned on the light, flipped his camera around, and generously showed the room to everyone watching.
"This is my son’s room. Is the feng shui in here bad? Streamer, how should the furniture be arranged? Just tell me, and I’ll do it right away!"
"The feng shui is fine," Shen Zhiyao replied. "The problem is under the bed."
"Under the bed?"
It was too dark under the bed. He turned on his flashlight, propped his phone to one side, lifted the draping bedskirt, and bent down to look.
In the beam of light, he saw a palm-sized object lying there.
He stretched out his arm and, with some effort, managed to pull the object out.
It was a white Buddha Talisman, its texture as smooth and fine as jade. The front was carved with the image of an evil god, while the back was inscribed with Gan Enxin’s name and his birth date and time.
When Gan Enxin saw the object clearly, his face paled. He subconsciously tried to rub the name and birth characters off the Jade Pendant.
But no matter how hard he rubbed, the characters wouldn’t come off!
Just then, the door opened, and a slender, gaunt-faced young man walked in...
