I Reincarnated as the World's Worst Healer-Chapter 81: Two Days Until the Wedding (2)
Hidden inside that small storage shed, the group of mercenaries listened to the conversation taking place in the backyard.
Carefully, Ebony tried to find a small hole and peeked through it, seeing by the pool a woman with blue hair, pale and smooth skin.
"I don’t think I can marry Regulus... I know it’s necessary, but he’s so unpleasant..." the blue-haired girl said while resting her hands on a chair in front of the table filled with snacks. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"I can’t imagine what you must be going through right now, Miss Kanary... But your father was clear about the consequences if you refuse to accept Lord Regulus at the altar," said the old butler with a kind and gentle voice.
"I know... But that doesn’t ease the pain of handing my life over to such a piece of shi—"
The sound of footsteps interrupted the girl.
It was her mother, Lady Tereza. She looked around fifty years old, judging by the gray hairs hidden within her hair and the wrinkles beginning to mark her face.
"You’re lucky it was me and not Lord Regulus who heard those words. Now behave like a proper lady and don’t you dare screw this up!"
The lady of the house spoke with an elegant and controlled tone, but her attitude was so arrogant that it sounded like a master speaking to a dog.
"Yes, mother... I’m sorry," Kanary said while lowering her gaze in embarrassment.
At that exact moment, a young man entered the scene with honey-colored hair and emerald-green eyes. His clothes were completely white and perfectly maintained; there wasn’t a single stain on them.
"So this is your courtyard. It’s nice, it reminds me of my country house," said the arrogant man, around thirty years old, as he walked as if the place belonged to him, touching the furniture with his ivory-white gloves.
He was looking for any trace of dirt or even the slightest imperfection so he could unleash his venom.
"I imagine you are my fiancée. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Kanini," the man said, grabbing the girl’s hand firmly and kissing it delicately.
"Kanary... Like the birds," the girl corrected him while holding back her irritation and the urge to punch the perfect face of the idiot in front of her.
"Oh, really? My apologies, I still can’t get used to your names. It’s such a distant region from my homeland... But that won’t be a problem after we spend a few years together in the kingdom of Matiz."
After letting go of the girl’s hand, the man approached her mother and kissed her hand as well. But unlike her daughter, the woman ended up blushing from the delicacy of Regulus’s gesture.
"I see you’re as well-mannered as your father. How is he these days? It’s been years since I last saw Lord Rigger."
"He’s somewhat indisposed since his last hunting expedition. Not surprising at his age, he should retire as soon as possible. Though that’s exactly why we’re here," Regulus replied to the lady of the house as he prepared to sit down.
The mother signaled for her daughter to sit at the table and talk with her fiancé.
"I see, hehe... Well then, I’ll excuse myself. I’ll leave you two alone so you can get to know each other properly."
After those words, Kanary’s mother left the garden along with the butler, who could only look back with concern as the blue-haired girl was left at the mercy of the blond idiot.
Once they were alone in the middle of the garden, with a table full of sweet and savory snacks, the couple destined to marry remained silent.
The girl had no desire to know more about a man who didn’t even respect her home while being nothing more than a guest.
"So tell me, how old are you? Honestly they didn’t give me many details beyond your name. Not that I cared, but it would be good to know how many years you have left before you start getting wrinkles," the blond said while starting to eat a ham sandwich.
"I’m twenty-two... I still have my whole life ahead of me, if that concerns you. Besides, I don’t intend to age without taking care of my beauty," the girl replied, crossing her arms.
"Good to hear. I don’t want an ugly wife when I reach my forties."
Regulus pointed at the teapot on the table as if ordering his future wife to pour him some tea.
Kanary clenched her teeth as she picked up the teapot and served tea to the pale man, who began drinking it without removing his gloves.
"Ugh... It’s stale... I knew I should have brought my own tea. This tastes like peasant piss."
Faced with such a disgusting comment, the blue-haired girl had to tighten her fists to avoid punching the arrogant man. But at that moment a noise came from the storage shed.
Since they didn’t hear anything else, the couple ignored the sound, which was probably just a tool falling to the ground.
However, inside that small shack was Ebony with her mouth covered by Lucian, who held her arms, while Daniel held her legs, because their companion was so furious she was ready to rush out and smash the arrogant man’s face outside.
"Anyway, tell me something, Kasisi. Has the necklace my family paid for as a wedding gift arrived yet? It’s very important that you wear it. My mother chose it especially for you, and shipping it from the other continent wasn’t cheap at all."
"Yes... My mother arranged for it to be brought several weeks ago... It will arrive, I assure you," Kanary replied while wringing her dress.
That gift sent from the other continent, where Regulus was native, had been transported by her own brother along with his personal guard. But they ended up injured and took refuge in Lithany, forced to send the necklace through Ebony’s guild.
"(You miserable bastard... Your stupid gift almost cost my brother his life... You won’t even ask if he’s alive, will you?)" the girl thought while swallowing hard.
"I don’t care what happened during its transport, I’m serious..." Regulus looked at the girl coldly. "If that necklace doesn’t arrive for the wedding, I will cancel the engagement and your city will go to hell, just like its food."
Kanary, powerless, lowered her gaze and bit her lower lip.
"I understand... I’ll make sure it arrives as soon as possible..."
"That’s what I like to hear. You’ll be a good wife. Anyway, I have to leave, I have important meetings with some major guild leaders. See you at dinner."
Regulus left the place, taking a chocolate bonbon with him. After his departure, the girl let out a long sigh and stood up from the table.
Without much enthusiasm, Kanary approached the small shed where Ebony’s group was hiding, who tried not to make any noise.
Until suddenly the blue-haired girl kicked the door open, shouting furiously as a bluish magic began to emanate from her body.
"Right now you’re going to tell me who you are and what the hell you were doing spying on my meeting! You could have ruined everything, you filthy bastards!"
