Chapter 50: 50:Training.

He exhaled softly and closed his eyes. His core responded immediately, the volatile elements shot towards the cut in his arm each trying to escape and heal him.

"Okay," he murmured to himself, "... same idea."

This had been one of the techniques his grandfather had taught him behind his father’s back.

Healing and body control.

Hurting yourself and using your element to control the bleeding and the body to accelerate healing.

Everyone has a certain natural healing speed but an Aether manipulator has a higher speed since they can control Aether like it’s part of their body and move it to the wound to stop its bleeding while they wait for it to heal.

It wasn’t an easy feat but still a very helpful technique especially in battle.

"Don’t fight it," he repeated to himself, Lily’s advice during their training.

Wind was the first to respond to his call. It slid down his channels and tried to disperse the wound but Atheline shut it down.

Fire followed right behind, volatile and ready to burn the wound shut. He gritted his teeth and pushed it back into his core aching at the daring move.

The other elements did the same each tying their own method but Atheline fought through the sensation, suppressing it.

"Work together...," he murmured.

The elements moved slowly together as they tried to integrate and adapt to each other.

Atheline looked at the bleeding, it hadn’t fully closed but it had reduced. Atheline smiled to himself.

’Progress...’

The pain from his core had gotten manageable. He looked into himself, the cracks hadn’t disappeared, but the erratic movement had reduced.

’I wonder when I’ll be able to pick one whenever I want’

Atheline picked a bow and arrow from the wall feeling the familiar weight in his hands.

He nocked the arrow and pulled back.

THWIP!

The arrow was released. It cut through the air and embedded itself into the target on the opposite side of him where targets were hung.

’Thank goodness, I’ve still got it’

He hadn’t used any Aether but his normal body strength. He excitedly nocked two arrows and released them simultaneously.

Atheline was about to shoot his fifteenth arrow when he felt something enter his senses, fast from behind him.

He moved on instinct.

He jumped sideways just as a knife sliced down where he had been. The arrow left the bow at the same moment shooting to the unwelcomed visitor who easily avoided it.

’He’s strong’

Despite his core being unstable, Atheline wasn’t weak per se. He was also a body strengthener and that meant he was good in combat.

He twisted to his left just as the blade sliced through the air, missing his neck by a sliver.

The assassin didn’t speak or slow down, he expertly adjusted his dodge when Atheline’s bow came to him.

He ducked down and shot up from under him the knife aimed for his knife.

Atheline barely brought his arm down just in time to defend. The blade cut through his arm.

Pain flared through him causing him to stumble back.

He flashed back trying to create a distance between them but the assassin closed in instantly.

His core flared instinctively, and the elements he had worked so hard to calm flowed out of his core and into his channels.

’No...’

He tried to suppress them mid-fight while dodging and counterattacking but it proved useless.

The assassin struck again, this time aiming for his heart. Atheline twisted but the fire element escaped his control.

It burned through his channels painfully but Atheline managed to control it in the last minute.

Too late.

The blade plunged into his side. For a split second, everything went cold then pain came crushing in all at once.

He staggered back hand on his side. His vision started to blur as he tried to catch his breath.

’This is bad’

He could hear his ears ringing.

The assassin pulled his knife out forcing Atheline to stumble back as he stepped forward.

Atheline hit the back of the wall.

That was it, his control fully slipped.

His core exploded as the power ran through his body, painfully, but Atheline was too focused on the assassin to care about the explosion.

He could feel it, the advantage of letting the elements move freely. His wound was healing slowly but healing.

The assassin took this as an opportunity.

He moved.

Atheline threw his fist enhanced with earth and fire to the left.

The assassin side-stepped the fists. Another followed hitting directly on his stomach throwing him back like a ragdoll.

He landed on his feet and rushed back towards him but this time, Atheline was faster.

With the lack of control, the elements tore through his body but also increased his perception.

He caught the assassin’s wrist, twisted it, and turned around before driving his shoulder into him, slamming him on the wall.

The blade clattered on the ground.

Atheline’s other hand moved to his neck.

For a split second, they locked eyes. Then, the assassin’s body went slack.

Atheline let go of the broken neck and stepped back the body falling to the floor.

He exhaled softly and closed his eyes. His core moved slowly as it recalled all the elements that were gathered around him, the pain was crippling but Atheline had started to get used to it.

He staggered back from the body and walked towards the door but he didn’t reach it before it was pushed open.

Furious eyes met his.

Her gaze moved down to his bloody robe hiding his healing wound then back to his face before a small frown marred her face.

The temperature in the room dropped past freezing point.

Atheline subconsciously help his breath.

"YOU LEFT."

Atheline froze.

"I told you," she said in a dangerously calm voice," not to leave your assigned chambers."

Atheline raised his hand slightly, "In my defence.... Someone tried to kill me."

"That is not a defence. "

She walked towards him her heels hitting the floor like a decree.

Atheline held his breath until her hand touched his already healed wound her aether flowed into his body healing where he had skipped and calming his still erratic core.

Atheline let out a small exhale as the pain retracted.

Her hand moved up his chest then stopped on his neck. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

"No.." he whispered his mind going back to being knocked out.

She rubbed his side softly before moving up and cupping his cheek. Atheline leaned into her touch.

"Do you know where you are my love," she asked oddly sweet.

Atheline glanced to the opening then back to her.

"Inside the palace training room?"

He gulped.

"No, you are not, " her voice turned cold but calm," I gave you one little request, but you went ahead and disappointed me, almost getting yourself killed."

Atheline closed his eyes his hand covered hers, thinking about what to tell her to calm her down, her killing intent had started to leak.

"I don’t want to be weak, Lily," he said calmly despite his heart racing a mile," I want to protect you and it breaks my heart over and over again whenever I can’t control the very power I have gained. "

He opened his eyes and looked at her hoping his face would assist him in this.

They stared at each other for a moment then she slipped her hand out of his.

"I’ll forgive you this once," she conceded," next time I won’t be so lenient."

Atheline smiled," I won’t."

"How did you end up here?" She asked.

"I asked one of your servants for directions."

She frowned.

"Female or male?"

"Male."

"Description. "

"Short, reaches around my chest, buzz cut brown hair, and red eyes he seemed to be carrying some sort of tray..."

Atheline described everything about the boy down to his clothes.

She was quiet for a moment before she shook her head. Though her shadow had informed him of his movement, they only followed specific orders and it was to follow him.

She hadn’t expected him to go running too far and get attacked under her own nose.

"That wasn’t one of my servants, " she said her eyes moving to the assassin, " I personally pick every one of them."

She walked to the assassin and removed his face cover and glanced at Atheline.

He shook his head.

"Don’t walk around without informing me," she said while walking towards him," if you want to move around just wait until I finish my work then I can accompany you."

Her voice didn’t give him room for any argument.

He nodded in agreement.
