Chapter 40: Chapter 40: The Map to the Sky, Floating Kingdom

Lucifer walked up the ruined staircase. The walls were melted smooth by the intense heat of the Cataclysm Orb.

He reached the remains of the Throne Room.

It was nothing but a massive, smoking crater open to the sky. The heavy clouds that had choked the Scourgelands for a century were rapidly breaking apart.

Bright beams of pure golden sunlight cut through the darkness, lighting up the cracked black ground of the valley far below.

The throne of fused skulls was vaporized. Vorthos was entirely defeated.

Lucifer’s eyes scanned the smoking crater. He was looking for the boss loot. A Level 55 Epic Boss did not die without leaving something behind, even if it was caught in a solar blast.

In the exact center of the crater, half-buried, sat a small, square box.

It looked like simple and heavy lockbox.

Lucifer walked down into the crater. His boots crunched on the cooling slag.

He stopped in front of the box, he knelt in the ash and placed his iron gauntlet on the lid.

[Item Discovered: Precursor Safebox]

[Tier: Indestructible]

[Status: Locked. Requires Void Mana Signature.]

Lucifer smiled, a cold, satisfied smirk. The Lich Lord had kept an item he couldn’t even open. Vorthos was a master of death magic, not space magic.

Lucifer channeled a microscopic fraction of his Void Arcanist core into his fingertips. The swirling dark matter in his eyes flared.

He pushed the pure, crushing gravity magic directly into the lock mechanism.

The dull gray metal hissed softly. The lock clicked open with a heavy, solid sound.

Lucifer lifted the lid.

There was no gold. There were no legendary weapons or glowing skill books.

Resting on a bed of dark velvet was a single, broken stone tablet. It lay in three large pieces.

Its surface was covered in detailed, glowing silver lines that formed a complex, three-dimensional star map.

Lucifer carefully lifted the largest piece of the tablet. The stone was surprisingly warm.

[Item Acquired: Shattered Star-Chart (1/3)]

[Tier: Mythic Relic]

[Description: A navigation device from the Age of Arcanum. It points to a nearby space anomaly.]

Lucifer’s breath caught in his throat.

In his past life, there were countless rumors about the Precursor Civilization. They were an empire that existed before the gods, before the Abyss, and before the System became part of reality.

They built the Aether-Forges. They created the Arcane Sentinel Titans.

But their greatest achievement was lost to time.

Zephyria. The Floating Kingdom.

It wasn’t just an island. It was a huge flying fortress that could draw power from the sky itself.

It was an unbreakable capital that could move across the continent, ignoring borders, terrain, and any ground attacks.

If Lucifer controlled Zephyria, he wouldn’t need to defend the Citadel of Obsidian from the corrupt noble houses or the advancing Abyssal hordes. He could simply lift his entire army into the sky and strike from above.

He quickly gathered the other two pieces of the tablet and stored them in his Dimensional Vault.

Lucifer stood up. He looked out over the ruined fortress walls.

Miles below, the Scourgelands were transforming. The death of the Lich Lord and the destruction of the Soul Siphons broke the curse on the land.

The black ash covering the plains began to shift. Tiny, fragile blades of bright green grass pushed through the dead earth, reacting to the returning sunlight. The foul, stagnant water in the ravines cleared, rushing with fresh, cold mountain runoff.

The Grand Army was cheering.

The sound carried all the way up the mountain. The Awakened mercenaries, the Crimson Rose scouts, and the Star-Kissed Elves were roaring in absolute triumph.

They had marched into a death trap, survived an ambush, and watched their Supreme Commander vaporize a mountain peak.

Lucifer tapped his comms rune.

"Elara," Lucifer called out.

"We are holding the perimeter, Lucifer," the Fallen Valkyrie’s voice replied instantly. The static was completely gone. "The mountain shook violently. We saw the explosion. Is the Lich dead?"

"Vorthos is dead," Lucifer confirmed. "The zone is cleared. The Scourgelands belong to Obsidian."

"Understood," Elara said. Her voice carried a fierce, proud edge. "The mercenaries are currently looting the lower ruins of the undead outposts. Lady Scarlett is organizing the supply wagons. The Saintess is awake and stable."

"Good," Lucifer said. "Bring them up to the fortress. I want the Vanguard captains and the healers to establish a forward operating base in the courtyard. The ground troops will rest here for the night."

"And us?" Elara asked.

"You and Sarah come to the peak," Lucifer ordered. "I have something to show you."

Lucifer cut the connection. He walked to the very edge of the smoking crater and looked out over the vast, healing valley.

Ten minutes later, the sound of heavy wingbeats echoed above the ruined fortress.

Elara landed gracefully on the cracked obsidian floor of the Throne Room. Her golden wings folded tightly against her silver armor.

She carried Sarah securely in her arms. The Star-Touched Oracle looked exhausted, her white dress stained with dirt.

Elara set Sarah down gently.

The two women looked around the smoking crater. They saw the melted throne and the shattered walls.

Lucifer stood near the edge of the cliff, his dark armor contrasting sharply with the bright sunlight flooding the room.

Elara walked up beside him. She looked down at the healing plains of the Scourgelands. "The corruption is broken. The human kingdoms will try to claim this land now. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

The King will send his bureaucrats to tax the new fertile soil. Lord Vorian’s surviving knights will tell the capital what happened here."

"Let them," Lucifer said dismissively.

He opened his Dimensional Vault. He pulled out the three pieces of the Shattered Star-Chart and held them together in his iron-gauntleted hands.

The silver lines on the stone flared brightly, attempting to connect the broken magical circuits.

Elara and Sarah stepped closer, staring at the glowing tablet.

"What is that?" Elara asked. "It does not look like standard loot."

"It is a map," Sarah breathed, her Oracle sight instantly recognizing the cosmic alignment of the silver runes. "It points up. It points away from the earth."

"It points to Zephyria," Lucifer confirmed. He looked at the two women standing beside him. One radiating the fierce, golden light of a Valkyrie. The other pulsing with the deep, silver magic of the stars.

"We are not going to hold the Scourgelands," Lucifer explained. His eyes locked onto Elara’s. "We are not going to fight the King’s armies for patches of dirt. The ground is too crowded with traitors, cowards, and politicians."

He turned his gaze up toward the brilliant blue sky.

"We’re taking the Aether-Forge, the Dragoons, the Arch-Seraphs, and the Star-Kissed Elves," Lucifer said. His voice was low and steady, filled with complete certainty.

"We are going to find the Precursor capital. Our next kingdom will be in the sky."

"The sky," Elara agreed. She gripped her silver spear, her golden eyes burning with loyalty.

Sarah leaned on her Scepter of Cosmic Alignment. She looked up at the endless blue expanse.

For the first time in her life, the sky did not look like a cage or a source of terrifying visions. It looked like freedom.

She reached out and placed her small, pale hand over Lucifer’s heavy iron gauntlet.

"I will chart the stars," Sarah promised softly.

Lucifer looked at them. The tutorial phase of his regression was officially over. He had the power, the wealth, and the army. He had the absolute devotion of two divine beings.

He stored the Star-Chart back into his Dimensional Vault.

"Then we rest today," Lucifer commanded. He turned away from the cliff edge and walked back toward the ruined spiraling stairs. "Tomorrow, we march north. We find the Sleeping Sovereign, and we take our city."
