Chapter 983: Visiting Adrius

Erend was still in the facility. He couldn’t bring himself to go home yet when there were several newly awakened candidates in the building whose Magic affinity and talent were still unstable.

If one of them accidentally set something on fire or conjured a tornado in the middle of the night inside the facility, the results could be catastrophic.

That was why he chose to stay.

Not just him. The rest of the security team was also on high alert. Soldiers patrolled the halls in pairs, their boots echoing faintly across the reinforced flooring.

This tightening of security was on Jessica’s orders, and she herself was present here refusing to go home as well, personally overseeing the watch shifts.

Adrien, Billy, Thomas, and Conrad, however, decided to head home.

They weren’t worried because Erend was here and when Erend was in this alert mode, nothing slipped past him.

"I’ll be in my room," Erend told Jessica when she crossed his path in the corridor. "I will not be available for a while."

Jessica studied him with narrowed, curious eyes, clearly wondering what he was planning.

She didn’t press the question, though. She already suspected the answer. He was probably going to contact "his friends in another world."

"Alright," she finally said.

Erend nodded once in thanks, then turned and headed toward his quarters.

Once inside, he shut the door and locked it.

The room was dark save for the faint blue glow of the warded window. He stepped to the center, focused, and with a subtle twist of his fingers, a swirling portal bloomed into existence. It was deep liquid like shadows edged with silver light.

Without hesitation, he stepped through.

The world twisted.

When his feet hit the floor again, he stood in a cluttered chamber filled wall-to-wall with shelves, books, and strange Magical apparatuses like the glass spheres, brass instruments, cauldrons, and bundles of herbs hanging from the rafters.

Before he could take a step, a voice snapped like a whip.

"Who are you?! How did you get here?!"

A young man in Mage’s robes stood before him, staff raised and aimed directly at his chest.

The staff’s crystal tip sparked faintly with charged lightning. His face was pale but tense, his stance trained and ready to fight.

It was or course, Lysander, Adrius’s apprentice.

And from the look in his eyes, he had no idea who Erend was.

Only Adrius himself knew the truth about Erend and Eccar’s existence.

Erend slowly raised his hands in a gesture of peace. "Sorry for barging in. I didn’t mean any trouble."

Lysander didn’t lower the staff. His gaze darted over Erend’s clothes that clearly foreign to this world and his shoulders tightened even more.

"I don’t believe you, stranger," he said sharply, the lightning at the staff’s tip crackling louder.

Erend sighed. This was his mistake. He hadn’t told Adrius he was coming and now here he was, looking like an intruder.

If Lysander attacked, it would be messy.

So he changed tactics. He let his Magic aura spill outward not fully, just enough to make a point.

The air in the room grew heavy, dense, almost suffocating. Power radiated from him like a dangerous storm wind, and Lysander’s eyes went wide.

The young Mage’s hands trembled. The staff slipped from his grip and clattered to the floor. He staggered back, collapsing into a chair and breathing hard.

In the next moment, Erend drew his aura back in, the room returning to normal.

He stepped forward, picked up the staff, and placed it gently on the table. The staff now well out of Lysander’s reach.

"I’m here to see Adrius," Erend said calmly. "I’m sorry for coming unannounced."

The door burst open with a loud bang.

Adrius strode in, his face tense, his gaze flicking from Lysander to Erend. Clearly, he had felt that surge of power from the hallway.

When he saw who it was, his expression relaxed into a relieved smile. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

"By the gods, it’s just you, Erend," Adrius said with a short laugh. "For a second I thought some outer-world anomaly had breached the tower."

Adrius crossed the room in a few strides and grasped Lysander by the shoulder, helping him up from the chair.

"You must be scared shitless, kid, Hahaha!" he said with a chuckle, giving the young Mage a reassuring pat. "Don’t worry. This is just one of my friends. One of the powerful friends I told you about before."

Lysander’s eyes flicked between them, his chest still heaving. The tension in his body loosened, and he let out a shaky sigh of relief.

If Erend had been an enemy, he wouldn’t still be breathing. He had never felt power like that before that felt raw, controlled, and overwhelming all at once.

Erend offered an apologetic smile. "Sorry about that. I didn’t mean to scare you."

Adrius waved it off.

"You didn’t mean to, but you did. Still, no harm done." He gestured toward the sitting area, where a low table sat surrounded by cushioned chairs. "Come, sit. We’ll talk."

Erend followed him, taking a seat while Lysander quietly retrieved the staff and set it aside.

Moments later, Adrius returned with a tray filled with two steaming cups of tea and a small plate of golden-brown cookies dusted with sugar.

He set them down with casual grace, but when he finally sat across from Erend, his expression shifted.

The laughter was gone, replaced by a steady, serious gaze. "You wouldn’t come here unannounced unless something was wrong. What happened?"

Erend shook his head. "Nothing bad. At least... not yet." He wrapped his hands around the warm cup, letting the steam rise between them. "I came because I need your help."

Adrius leaned back slightly, eyes narrowing in thought. "What kind of help?"

Erend met his gaze. "There are new candidates back at my world. Some of them have unstable Magic. If they don’t get proper training we could have a disaster on our hands."

"Wait, what? You trained human in your world with Magic?" Adrius asked with deep frown.

Erend sighed. "I guess I need to tell you everything from the start."
