Chapter 921: Calm Walk

They finally saw it. The dirt road that marked the edge of the deep woods stretched ahead of them like an old friend.

The road was wide and well-worn. The path curved through the trees. The surface was packed down by years of wagon wheels, merchant caravans, and travelers’ boots.

Sunlight dappled across it through the branches overhead and for the first time in what felt like an age, the group exhaled together.

A collective sigh of relief rose from their tired chests. The worst was behind them. The forest god’s threat had passed, and now the road to the Qomore Kingdom lay open.

They began to walk again but there was no urgency in their steps now. Their pace slow and eased. It felt more like returning from a long and strange vacation than surviving a world changing crisis.

The trees no longer loomed over them. The danger was gone. All that remained was the silence of healing woods and the soft crunch of boots on earth.

Kaela brushing her braid back over one shoulder then she decided to broke the quiet.

"Alright, I can’t hold it in. I need to know. How big was the fight against that ancient forest god really? You two came out alive and the temple’s still standing. What happened in there?"

"Yeah. If it was a god-level fight, then why wasn’t the whole forest torn apart? We expected to see fire and maybe a hole in the sky," Thorne said.

Mark laughed quietly. "You think too big. But still, it’s strange. We didn’t even hear it happen."

All eight adventurers looked to Erend and Eccar. Curiosity, confusion, and disbelief etched into their faces.

Eccar glanced at Erend. A wordless exchange passed between them before he finally spoke.

"We didn’t fight inside the temple," he said. "The real battle happened in another dimension. Inside the god’s own domain."

The reaction was immediate. They let out a gasps and widened their eyes. Jan actually stopped walking for a second with his mouth half open.

"In another dimension?" Selene repeated slowly.

Esther furrowed her brow. "You mean like a pocket realm? An astral space? But to fight a god inside their own domain... how are you even still alive?"

Their minds were spinning. The implications were enormous. Not only did it mean they had stepped into the heart of an ancient divine power but it also meant they had survived it and defeated it.

That was the kind of tale that didn’t belong in real life. It belonged in myths, passed down through murals and whispered in fire-lit taverns. However, they then realized that Erend and Eccar were Dragonborns.

Annette blinked slowly. "So you weren’t just strong. You two are stronger beyond our imaagination."

Erend just smiled a little and kept walking. Eccar chuckled.

"That’s not even the wildest story we have," Eccar said. "We’ve seen worse and fought worse. If we told you everything we’ve been through, you’d think we were making it up. Or insane."

Mark shook his head slowly, half in awe. "You’re right. I probably would."

But no one laughed. They believed it. Or at least, they believed enough to know they didn’t want to know what else might be out there.

They decided to sat down on a patch of grass beside the road, letting their legs rest as they pulled out what snacks they had left.

Bread, dried fruits, and salted meats were what left and they decided to eat all of it as they walk back home.

The breeze was warm. The sky clear. For the first time in days it felt like the world wasn’t teetering on the edge of something terrible. They can feel in the air that the Magic energy of the forest were stable and even better than before. freeweɓnovel-cøm

Erend leaned back against a tree trunk, his eyes half-closed, letting the quiet stretch. Eccar sat nearby while chewing calmly. While the eight adventurers chatted in lower voices, still trying to wrap their minds around everything.

Then the sound of fast-approaching footsteps broke the stillness.

They looked up.

Figures were running toward them along the dirt road. Five in total. They were armored, armed, and clearly adventurers. Probably from the Qomore Kingdom based on their gear and appearance.

There was a flicker of tension among the group. Erend and Eccar just look calmly, their presence alone grounding the others. Even if these newcomers were hostile they wouldn’t be a threat now with two Dragonborn beside them.

The five stopped a short distance away. Their expressions were a mix of relief, exhaustion, and disbelief.

One of them—a broad man with a bald head and a crooked grin—stepped forward and gawked.

"Jan! You’re alive!" he said, his voice loud with shock and joy.

Jan didn’t even stand. He just raised a piece of bread in one hand, still chewing. "As you can see."

"What happened?" the bald man asked, eyes flicking around to the rest of the group.

"I could ask you the same," Jan said, glancing at his snack. "You came running. Looked like you saw a ghost."

The bald man scratched the back of his neck. "We... uh... we heard what was going on in the forest. The disturbance. Thought maybe we could help."

That earned a laugh and chuckle of genuine amusement from ther four adventurers from Astoria and the Qomore kingdom alike.

"Help?" Annette echoed, grinning. "You would’ve been vaporized before you saw what hit you."

The newcomers blinked. "What do you mean? We’re not weak, you know."

"No," Hund said. "You’re not. But this wasn’t a job for people like us."

The five glanced behind them at the forest, then at the group before them. They were mud-splattered, bruised, scorched in places, but calm and unshaken.

The two figures sitting near the edge—Erend and Eccar—radiated something entirely different power. It feels like dangerous and silent strength.

The bald man looked from Jan to the two of them, then swallowed his pride. "Right. Maybe it’s good we didn’t get there first."

They didn’t ask any more questions after that and instead sharing the snacks. After that, they all walk back toward the kingdom.
