I Received System to Become Dragonborn-Chapter 1249: Panic
Zerathul saw Erend coming. Lightning coiled around Erend’s Dragon body, braided tightly with fire and water, the three forces rotating in violent harmony.
His Lightning Dragon body shined brighter with every beat of his wings, pressure rolling outward from him like a gathering storm.
Zerathul’s fury deepened and beneath it, something worse took hold. More fear.
His fractured eyes locked onto Erend as the realization struck him all at once. The balance had tipped. The rhythm of the battle no longer belonged to him.
"I have to do something," Zerathul thought, with panic scraping against his mind.
But the battlefield offered him no mercy.
From above and the flanks, Eccar and Aesa never relented. Earth-shattering blows and freezing arcs of power struck in relentless coordination.
Below and around him, King Gulben and the others continued their assault, Magic attacks of various kinds crashing into his defenses in layered waves.
Zerathul calculated desperately.
If he shifted his focus to escape, even for a moment, his defenses would collapse. If he held his defenses, he remained trapped.
There was no path without consequence.
His thoughts spiraled. "No room. No time. No damned opening!"
Snarling, Zerathul threw back his head and unleashed a roar that reverberated through the broken skies again. This time it was not dominance or command. It was desperation.
The shockwave erupted outward, raw and uncontrolled, slamming into the defenders and hurling them back through distorted air.
But before they could be scattered Erend moved.
He switched his movement in the middle of the flight, wings flaring wide as water Magic surged from his body.
A massive wall of churning water formed instantly behind King Gulben and the others, catching them in a controlled surge instead of letting them be thrown apart.
The impact slowed, then stopped, momentum swallowed by the flowing barrier.
Arty turned sharply.
She met Erend’s eyes through the chaos.
"Arty, are you alright?" Erend sent through their link, his voice steady despite the storm raging around him.
She straightened in midair and nodded firmly.
"Yes. Don’t worry about me. Just kick that thing’s ass!"
A flicker of warmth passed through Erend’s chest.
"I’m planning on doing exactly that."
He did not wait another second.
Lightning detonated beneath his wings as he vanished in a thunderous burst, reappearing directly in front of Zerathul.
Without hesitation, Erend opened his Dragon mouth and unleashed a relentless barrage.
White-hot and compressed fire roared first, followed instantly by lances of lightning that tore through the air in rapid succession.
Next, water power followed each lightning attack, forcing the energy deeper, amplifying the damage instead of letting it disperse.
Zerathul screamed as his defenses finally buckled.
Cracks tore through his necrotic barriers. Several attacks punched through fully, ripping chunks of corrupted flesh from his face. A writhing tentacle was severed completely from his face, disintegrating as it fell away.
Zerathul reeled backward.
Erend did not slow down and kept sending his attacks.
Seeing Erend continue his relentless assault with his lightning and fire crashing again and again without pause, it became clear that Zerathul could no longer retaliate properly.
His movements slowed, his counters mistimed or aborted entirely. The opening was clear.
Eccar and Aesa moved with Erend without a word.
Eccar thrust both his clawed hands forward, golden Earth Dragon Magic condensing out of nothingness.
The air thickened, hardened, then split as massive earthen lances and boulders formed midair.
Veins of radiant gold ran through them as he hurled the constructs forward with tremendous force.
They slammed into Zerathul’s defensive shield in rapid succession, detonating with thunderous impacts. As the last boulder hit him, the shattered earth did not disperse. Instead, it flowed and reshaping instantly into a massive prison of compressed stone that wrapped around Zerathul’s body, locking onto his shield and constricting it from all sides.
At the same time, Aesa swept wide. Her wings cut a sharp arc through the air as she circled behind Zerathul, frost light spilling from her crystalline body.
She inhaled deeply, then released a stream of ice breath so cold it devoured heat itself. The freezing torrent washed over Zerathul’s shield, temperatures plunging to the point where everything threatened to lock and fracture at a cellular level.
The shield held, but it was just barely.
Cracks of frost crawled across its surface. The necrotic energy stuttering as the cold gnawed relentlessly at its structure.
The ice did not break through immediately, but it weakened, eroded, and destabilized what remained of his defenses.
Erend did not let up for a single heartbeat.
Lightning, fire, and water struck in ruthless coordination, hammering the same points again and again.
Earth crushed from one side and ice consumed from another. The pressure mounted beyond Zerathul could sustain in his condition right now.
Then it happened.
Zerathul’s defenses finally shattered.
The necrotic shield imploded with a violent collapse, fragments of corrupted energy scattering into the air before dissolving completely. All the attacks hit at once.
Earth lances pierced deep. Lightning tore through his exposed flesh. Fire burned away his power. Ice locked what remained in place.
Zerathul let out a very loud howl.
The roar that came from him was monstrous and filled with agony and fury. It was so loud that it ripped through the skies and blasted outward as a devastating shockwave.
Magic residue was swept clean from the air, scattered like dust before a big wind.
Far below, the sound also reached the ground. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
People in shelters and fortified homes clutched their heads as the roar rolled across the land, some collapsing to the floor as the air and ground trembled beneath them.
Then the roar faded.
When the echoes finally died, Zerathul’s massive body began to shrink. Layers of flesh and armor peeled away, necrotic mass collapsing inward as his towering presence diminished.
Erend, Eccar, and Aesa watched closely from their places in the air, while they were also ready to send more attacks.
At last, they saw it. Zerathul’s true form was finally revealed.
"That’s..." Erend thought with shock.
