I Received System to Become Dragonborn-Chapter 1222: Purge The Corruption
A second later the corrupted light reached its peak. The giant’s fused chests split wider as dozens of mouths stretched open at once and the throats in it vibrated in unison.
The unstable and dense glow compressed inward, dragging surrounding death Magic toward it.
Erend reacted on instinct.
"Move!" he shouted.
Lightning detonated from his wings as he veered hard to the side, thunder cracking loud enough to tear the air.
The blast fired downward a heartbeat later.
A column of corrupted energy erupted from the giant’s mouths, carving through the space Erend had occupied moments earlier.
The beam slammed into the ground behind them and erased everything it touched. Stone liquefied, ice evaporated, and the terrain collapsed into a smoking abyss.
Aesa felt the heat even from a distance. She spun midair. Her frost wings flexed hard as she redirected herself upward, narrowly avoiding the edge of the blast. Cold condensed around her arms as she thrust both hands forward.
Ice spears the size of a tree formed instantly and launched downward in a screaming barrage.
They punched into the giant’s upper torso, freezing layers of fused flesh and locking several of its mouths shut, creating cracks of ice that raced outward through the frozen mass.
Eccar slammed both fists into the ground with a roar.
The earth screamed back.
Massive stone bulwarks erupted upward, forming a rising wall between the abomination and him.
The wall barely finished forming before the giant smashed into it.
The impact shattered the barrier in an explosion of rock and dust, but it slowed the creature just enough.
"Damn this creature is annoying." Eccar gritted his teeth and pushed deeper.
The ground beneath the giant’s legs collapsed inward, transforming into a spiraling sinkhole.
The giant abomination staggered as several of its malformed limbs were dragged down, its balance finally broken.
Erend saw the opening.
Fire coiled tighter around his arms, compressed until it burned white-hot. Lightning wrapped around it, stabilizing the heat into something stronger and more violent.
He dove.
The air screamed as he descended.
He struck the frozen sections of the giant’s torso, driving the condensed fire and lightning mass straight into the cracks Aesa had created.
The impact detonated outward.
BOOM!
Frozen flesh exploded into shards. Corrupted energy ruptured violently and backfiring into the creature’s own core.
The giant let out a sound that did not sound just like a roar but more like a mass death rattle.
It collapsed to the ground.
The sinkhole swallowed what remained as Eccar sealed it shut with a crushing upward surge of stone, entombing the abomination beneath layers of compacted earth.
But it wasn’t alone.
The remaining giants advanced.
One crawled forward on too many limbs, dragging entire buildings fused into its back.
Another reared up and slammed both arms down, sending shockwaves across the battlefield that threw Erend off balance in the air.
Aesa descended sharply, skidding across the ground as frost exploded outward from her landing point.
She raised her hand and the temperature plummeted further, ice racing across the terrain and locking several of the giants’ limbs in place.
"There’s so many of them," she said, breath frosting instantly.
"I swear these creatures could destroy a world if let loose," Eccar answered.
The battlefield became a storm of destruction.
Erend weaved through the air, lightning ripping through exposed joints while fire burned deep into corrupted cores.
Eccar tore the land apart again and again, collapsing giants into pits then impaling them with stone lances, crushing them under sheer mass.
Meanwhile, Aesa turned entire sections of the battlefield into absolute zero zones and freezing monsters solid before shattering them with precise and merciless strikes.
Yet even as they destroyed one giant, another one of them pushed forward.
Behind them, Khepra-Ankh finally stood.
The pale Magic gathered again, stronger and steadier now.
He stepped forward calmly as the chaos raged ahead of him. The pale field expanded once more, rolling outward beneath the destruction like a quiet and inevitable tide.
Where his Magic reached, even the giants slowed.
Corruption peeled away. The screaming mouths fell silent. Massive bodies trembled in release.
One of the giants collapsed as the pale light reached its core. Its massive body crumbled inward, not exploding or burning, but simply letting go.
Souls poured free like drifting embers before vanishing upward.
Erend felt it even through the chaos. The battlefield slowly changed.
Where destruction had ruled moments before now silence happened. One by one, the remaining giants fell as the pale field advanced, their monstrous forms dissolving into ash.
When the last one collapsed, the land trembled once more. Then, finally, it stilled.
Erend landed heavily and folded his wings as he let out a long breath. Eccar straightened. Aesa lowered her hand, frost receding slowly.
Without wasting any time, they moved together after that, advancing deeper with their senses fully sharpened.
No undead rose anymore. The oppressive pressure that had haunted their every move before had weakened. Whatever had been driving the hordes forward had already spent its strength.
Khepra-Ankh followed a short distance behind them with silent and pale Magic flowing gently around him like a calm current.
The pull of corruption grew sharp all at once.
They crested a broken ridge and saw it.
At the center of a vast, crater-like hollow lay the source of all of this corruption in the Dungeon World.
It resembled a giant fetus, bloated and malformed, its body as large as a small carriage. Dark, leathery skin stretched tight over an uneven shape that twitched as if breathing. Thick cords and vein-like growths anchored it to the ground, pulsing slowly.
From its mouth and nostrils spilled clusters of black tentacles that writhed weakly, tasting the air.
The cursed Magic around it was dense and stagnant.
"This is Zerathul, right?" Eccar asked.
Looks like him. Still as ugly as ever." Aesa said as she looked at it. Her voice carried nothing but cold disdain."
Erend stared at the thing in silence for a moment, jaw clenched. He could feel the echo of all the destruction it had caused.
The countless dead pulled and twisted into monsters by its existence alone even in this separated dimension.
"Let’s destroy it," he said.
None of them hesitated.
Erend moved first. Lightning surged outward in a focused blast, slamming directly into the malformed body. Fire followed, burning straight through the dark flesh as corrupted Magic screamed and unraveled.
Eccar drove his power forward an instant later. The ground beneath Zerathul ruptured violently, stone spikes tearing upward and inward, crushing and piercing the fetus from all sides. The anchoring cords snapped one by one with wet cracks.
Aesa finished it.
Absolute cold flooded the hollow. Ice surged over the creature in a single overwhelming wave, freezing it solid down to its core. A sharp gesture shattered it.
The corrupted fetus exploded into frozen fragments and ash, its tentacles snapping apart and dissolving as the death Magic collapsed in on itself.
Silence followed.
Khepra-Ankh watched calmly as the last traces of corruption faded, pale light gently sweeping the area clean. No souls lingered. Nothing resisted.
Erend felt the Dungeon World exhale.
Erend saw the notification from Veyrun.
[You have destroyed the source of corruption in this Dungeon World. Everything will come back to what it’s supposed to be.]
