I Pick up a Lost Godhood-Chapter 72 - 70: Bloody Case
Wang Meng and Suo Ming also sensed that something was wrong and hurried back to the weaponsmith’s shop, only to find it in complete disarray.
"Uncle Lin, Little Xiu, Aunt Lin..."
Suo Ming roared and charged inside like a madman. The first thing he saw was the body of Lin Xiu, her clothes torn and ragged.
As Suo Ming frantically cradled Lin Xiu’s body, Wang Meng spotted Lin Ying in a corner, his chest completely caved in. The attacker’s strength had clearly far surpassed his, utterly bypassing the defenses of a Body Cultivator.
A ghostly light shot from Wang Meng’s eyes as he sent a stream of Elemental Power into Lin Ying from a distance. Lin Ying’s body suddenly shuddered.
"Uncle Lin, who did this!" Wang Meng hadn’t felt such rage in a very, very long time.
"The Mad Sword Sect... those animals..."
"Uncle Lin, Uncle Lin, what happened!" Suo Ming scrambled over.
Wang Meng stopped Suo Ming. "This is a final burst of life. Let Uncle Lin finish."
A desolate smile appeared on Lin Ying’s face. "Xiu’Er took her own life. She... preserved her virtue for you. COUGH, COUGH... Don’t... seek... revenge."
And with that, Lin Ying drew his last breath.
Suo Ming ground his teeth together. "Mad Sword Sect, I swear on my life to destroy you!"
The news about the unearthed Thousand-year-old Wumu Essence had been a deliberate rumor spread by the Mad Sword Sect, giving them the perfect opportunity to ransack Tongming City.
They say that in life, things go wrong nine times out of ten, but this was just too fucking much.
One would have expected Suo Ming to fly into a rage, but strangely, he quickly calmed down. A desolate smile touched his lips. "Boss, they say revenge is a dish best served cold. The dead come first. Let’s lay them to rest."
Three lonely graves now stood in the wilderness outside the city. Suo Ming seemed exceptionally calm as he squatted there, not moving until nightfall.
"Suo Ming, what are your plans?"
"Brother Meng, let’s return to the Holy Hall tomorrow. Once I’ve become strong enough, I will be back."
A lone moon hung in the night sky over the wilderness, accompanied by the howls of distant wolves. Everything felt so bleak. Suo Ming curled into a ball against a tree and, perhaps from utter exhaustion and grief, soon fell into a dead sleep.
Time ticked by. Wang Meng’s breathing evened out as he, too, sank into a deep sleep. But at that moment, Suo Ming’s eyes snapped open.
"Brother Meng, I’m no gentleman. I can’t wait ten years. I’m going to make them pay for this in blood!"
Suo Ming whispered, tightly gripping the hammer Lin Ying had forged for him.
Bright Void Mountain, the lair of the Mad Sword Sect, was an Immortal Mountain rich with Elemental Qi. At this hour, it was still ablaze with lights, the sounds of feasting and clinking cups mingling with the screams of women.
Their plan had been a complete success. They had plundered all of Tongming City, save for a few areas protected by powerful factions. With the Ten Thousand Demons Sect at their back, what was there to fear?
Meanwhile, Suo Ming had reached the foot of Bright Void Mountain, his eyes bloodshot. Every peal of laughter from the summit was like a needle piercing his very bones. ’Xiu’Er’s laugh... it feels like it was only yesterday. And Uncle Lin was such a good man.’
"You animals of the Mad Sword Sect, come out and die!"
With a furious roar, Suo Ming charged up the mountain, hammer in hand.
Two Mad Sword Sect disciples immediately sprang out from the side of the path, shouting, "Who are you? You dare cause trouble at the Mad Sword Sect’s grounds? Are you looking to die!"
"Die!"
Suo Ming’s hammer crashed down. He fought with complete disregard for his own life, taking two sword wounds but managing to crush both disciples’ skulls with his hammer.
’He hadn’t come here today with any intention of leaving alive.’
Kill! Kill! Kill!
’Kill one to break even, kill two and I’m ahead!’
"Congratulations, Hall Master! Our great mission was a success! The Ten Thousand Demons Sect is sure to reward us, and the Hall Master’s strength will certainly rise to a new level!"
"Brothers, a toast to the Hall Master!"
Over two hundred Mad Sword Sect disciples raised their cups. The sect was now a Sub-Hall of the Ten Thousand Demons Sect. With such a powerful backer, Pu Ba had grown smug. Most importantly, with the support of the Ten Thousand Demons Sect’s Cultivation Techniques and Pills, he, Pu Ba, was finally a man of consequence.
’The Holy Hall? Screw them! Burn, kill, and plunder!’
’He’d had a long-standing grudge against Lin Ying and had planned on having his way with the man’s daughter right in front of him, but the damned girl went and killed herself. Still, it was a satisfying victory. Let’s see who in the Tongming Realm would dare to cross him now!’
"We wish the Hall Master great success in his Divine Technique! May his might shake the world!"
Pu Ba threw his head back and laughed. Just as he was about to take a drink, a disciple burst in.
"Hall Master, someone is fighting their way up the mountain!"
Pu Ba set down his bowl, a cruel smile curling his lips. "Oh? Looks like someone’s brought us a little something to go with our drinks. Brothers, follow me! Let’s go have a look!"
Aside from a few new disciples standing guard, the entire Mad Sword Sect was on the mountain celebrating. Suo Ming had cut down several of them on his way up, but was immediately surrounded by more than a dozen disciples upon reaching the mountain gate.
They trapped Suo Ming in the center, raining down sword strikes upon him. With bloodshot eyes, Suo Ming lunged and slashed, but unfortunately, his opponents were just as strong as he was.
"The Hall Master is here!"
The crowd parted to form a path as hundreds of disciples with torches lit up the mountain gate, making it as bright as day.
"Where did this reckless brat come from?"
"Pu Ba, you motherfucking piece of shit! I’ll hunt you down even if I have to come back as a ghost!"
The moment he saw Pu Ba, Suo Ming charged forward like a madman, only to be immediately caught in the Sword Array of the Mad Sword Sect disciples.
Pu Ba slapped his forehead. "Well, if it isn’t the little beggar Lin Ying picked up from the streets. Tsk, tsk. I heard you went to the Holy Hall to make a name for yourself. What, back for revenge? A real shame you’re late, you missed the main event. You know, that little bitch Lin Xiu had such brittle bones. They snapped with just a squeeze."
The Mad Sword Sect disciples roared with laughter. Suo Ming lunged again, completely mad, taking several more sword cuts without even seeming to notice as he continued to charge.
"All of you, get out of the way!"
Pu Ba bellowed, and with a flick of his right hand, a Long Sword flew out and pierced straight through Suo Ming’s chest.
"With pathetic skills like yours, you aren’t even fit to carry my shoes!"
Reciting the Sword Formulas, with a loud BOOM, the sword in Suo Ming’s chest exploded. His torso was blasted into a bloody ruin as he was thrown through the air, unconscious before he hit the ground.
A cold sneer appeared on Pu Ba’s lips. "Wake him up. We have a new side dish for our celebration tonight. We’ll give him the death by a thousand cuts!"
Suddenly, a gust of wind swept through, causing the torches to flicker. When the light stabilized, another figure was standing at the mountain gate.
Wang Meng gently helped Suo Ming to his feet. "You must be the cook. You’re really not cut out for acting."
Pu Ba froze, then raised a hand to stop his disciples from charging. "And who might you be? There’s no need for you to get involved in this mess."
Wang Meng shook his head slowly. "It’s been a long time since I’ve truly felt the intent to kill. Today, every single one of you will die here."
He supported Suo Ming, whose hand was still locked in a death grip on his hammer. Wang Meng spoke softly to his unconscious friend, "Since you call me ’Boss,’ I’ll see this vengeance through for you."
"What’d he say?" Pu Ba asked, cupping a hand to his ear.
A disciple beside him quickly bowed. "Boss, the expert said he’s going to kill us all!"
The entire crowd immediately erupted in laughter.
"Go, take him down! I want him alive! I’m going to use his heart as a chaser for my wine!"
Immediately, more than a dozen disciples slashed at the pair with their swords. But Wang Meng and Suo Ming’s bodies seemed to turn to liquid; the blades passed right through, and their forms rippled back to normal as if untouched.
