I Only Wanted A Class In The Apocalypse-Chapter 1944: The World Map!
It wasn't until ten hours of constant work had passed that he started to see real, tangible results. It all started with a single interrogation report mentioning the specific name of a Hescos Elder.
Then, like a dam breaking, a few more names appeared in more reports. Hye's posture straightened instantly.
"Isolate these subjects," Hye ordered his warriors via the comms. "Anyone mentioning specific names from the Hescos Elders Council is to be moved to a separate high-security vessel. I want them separated from the general population immediately."
It made no sense for a common citizen or a lowly miner to know the private names of the Hescos Elders. These individuals had to be from the upper echelons of the city's hierarchy—perhaps even the true puppet masters who had been orchestrating the operation from behind the shadows.
These were the people who held the keys to the entire conspiracy; they possessed the evidence and the high-level secrets that would serve as his ultimate gift to the Grand Elder. Before he handed them over, however, he fully intended to squeeze every bit of utility out of them.
As he dug further, the quality of the information received a significant upgrade.
"Interesting!" Hye's eyes shone with a renewed brightness as he spotted a growing number of reports mentioning other cities.
It wasn't just this one mountain. The reports suggested a global network of extraction cities scattered across the planet, all performing the same function. "Wow. I never would have imagined so many cities could exist here without the Grand Elder knowing. Still..."
He realised he had hit a tactical wall. He had the names of these cities and their general locations based on the Hescos' internal planetary terminology, but he lacked even the most rudimentary map to translate those coordinates into a flight path. He was a stranger in a strange land, and "Sector 7-G" meant nothing to his navigation systems.
He issued a new, high-priority order: "Find the individuals claiming knowledge of these other sites. Force them to provide a detailed, high-resolution map of the world. I want every city, every mine, and every supply route plotted."
A few more hours of intense interrogation from his warriors did the trick. He eventually found himself staring at a holographic projection of a very detailed map of the Hescos' homeland.
It was a masterpiece of clandestine geography—detailing famous danger zones, the current positions of the black spheres, and, most importantly, the glowing red markers of the shadow cities.
Hye stood up, a cold smirk playing on his lips. He finally had the map to the Hescos' homeland.
"Damn! I'm placed far too deep into the periphery of this world!" Hye hissed, the realisation hitting him as he stared at the glowing, expansive map.
As he had suspected during his initial descent, this world didn't follow the standard spherical logic of the planets he knew. It was a flat, gigantic world—a disc or plane of such insane proportions that it stretched beyond this imagination.
The sheer amount of land was staggering, and the map revealed an even more complex celestial arrangement than he'd first thought. There wasn't just one sun, but several celestial bodies providing light and warmth to different sectors of this infinite plane.
Consequently, there were multiple black spheres acting as harbingers of shadow, orbiting in a synchronised dance to announce the onset of night in their respective regions.
"The cities and towns in this world… They are all situated around or deep inside mountains!"
The realisation struck him with surprise at first, but it was quickly replaced by a cold appreciation for the logic behind it. In a world with an atmosphere as deadly and pressurised as this one, a mountain wasn't just a landmark; it was a natural fortress.
Using the massive density of the mountain rock to buffer the environmental stresses was the most logical way to build a civilisation without suffering constant casualties from world hazards.
He spent hours studying the geography, his eyes tracing the paths between the crimson markers of the shadow cities and the official Hescos hubs. Finally, he shifted his gaze toward his current coordinate and compared it to the "Meeting Place" the Hescos had assigned for his arrival.
"Someone must have a deep grudge against me to place me this far from the destination," he muttered, shaking his head.
Even with the impressive speed of his small ship, flying directly toward the central hub of the world would take him half a month at least. It was a calculated delay—a way to keep him isolated while the conspirators in the Council moved their pieces.
"There must be some sort of portals to link such a colossal world together," he mused, his fingers tapping the armrest of his chair. "The distance is too great for normal travel alone. I bet those portals are hidden inside the big cities."
He scanned the map for the nearest major cities. They were several days away by flight, but he had no intention of rushing to the central meeting just yet.
"I need to use their own portals to reach the other hidden cities scattered across this world," Hye's eyes glinted with a mix of greed and foresight. "Old Gan wanted a sample of the materials the God Weapon is made of. I'm not just going to bring him a sample; I'll bring him every scrap of ore hidden inside these illicit cities."
Before he could give the order for the fleet to mobilise for a long-haul journey, he had to wait for the final reports from his ground search teams. He wasn't leaving this mountain until its secrets were bled dry. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Hmm, these drawings…"
As he had expected, the meticulous search of the city's administrative district had yielded a massive harvest. His warriors had recovered piles of documents—papers, diagrams, and complex designs that looked like a mess of geometric madness to the untrained eye.
"I'm sure Old Gan will know what I'm looking at," Hye thought, flipping through the loot.
