I Only Wanted A Class In The Apocalypse-Chapter 1939: Hye Causes a Storm!
"Open fire," he commanded, his voice cold as ice. "Hit the walls, neutralise every defensive facility you spot, and dominate their aerial space! And broadcast my message one more time over the loudspeakers once you are done!"
He was still technically leaving the option for diplomacy on the table, but this time, he would speak to the city’s leaders as a conqueror, not a visitor.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The sky ignited. The battle erupted with a ferocity that eclipsed his fight with the scorpitals. The city defenders were well-prepared; they had clearly been tracking his fleet’s arrival and opened fire the moment Hye’s ships began their assault.
Unlike anything those inside the city expected, their retaliatory strikes were utterly negated by the presence of the other-universe ships. Their shields shimmered with sturdy shields, working their spiritual powers to neutralise incoming attacks.
These vessels didn’t just protect themselves; they acted as a bulwark, shielding the standard fleet ships behind them from a single direct hit.
The story was tragically different for the city walls and the various defensive structures that had dared to fire at Hye’s fleet. The destruction raining from the sky was immense. Thick pillars of fire erupted across the city’s skyline as the grand fleet’s heavy ordnance found its mark.
The city’s own shielding systems kicked in with desperate speed, but they were localised and lacked the integrity to stand against an enemy they couldn’t even damage in return. It was a lopsided exchange that turned the once-proud mountain fortress into a crumbling furnace.
"As expected, they have lost their minds," Hye remarked, watching the swarm of small ships launching from the city’s hangars like hornets from a burning nest. They were heading straight for his formation in a suicidal charge. Hye shook his head. "Intercept and kill them. Capture a few alive and interrogate them."
He paused, a cold light entering his eyes. "Actually, I’ll capture them myself."
Using his technique, Hye reached out toward the incoming small fleet. As the pilots thought they had found a gap to attack, they pushed their engines to the limit, only to find a new interceptor fleet manifesting directly in their path. The battle grew chaotic instantly as the city’s pilots tried to break away, but it was useless.
"Tsk! It’s a difference between heaven and earth when taking control over races from the universe compared to those monsters," Hye muttered. The process was almost trivial. He simply seized control of hundreds of the pilots’ minds, forcing them through his power to sign a soul contract.
Once the system-bound contract was activated, he broke the active link of his technique with them. Unlike his insects and Wyverns, which required a constant 24/7 drain on his energy to remain loyal, these contracted pilots were now permanently his.
"Come to my ship," Hye ordered through the newly established mental link. "We need to talk!"
Hye had tons of questions about the existence of this city, the nature of the people living here, and why they were so eager to fire on a peaceful delegation twice. He didn’t know that this simple tactical move was currently igniting a firestorm in the Hescos’ Elders Council.
"I formally request to open communication with Hye!" Moth suddenly stood up, his voice cutting through the tension like a blade. He completely ignored the wave of exclamations and gasps that erupted inside the council hall at his sudden demand. "He is about to interrogate the survivors from that city. We need to know everything he knows—now!"
"That’s absurd!" Just as Moth finished his sentence, one of the elders from the faction opposing Hye shot to his feet, his face flushed with indignation. "We already agreed! He is on a trial! He gets no help from us, no communication, and no outside influence!"
"You said it before yourself, Moth," another elder shouted, leaning over the table. "He opened a portal to another world while sitting calmly right next to you, even when there were space lockers active in the area! 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
He has an anomalous relationship with the System. We have to freeze his ability to communicate or receive aid to force his hand—we need to see everything he’s capable of!"
"That was true then, but as you can see, we have a far more stressful situation on our hands!" Moth gritted his teeth, his eyes flashing with suppressed anger. He hated it when they used his own words against him to serve their narrow-minded agendas.
"We won’t agree to that!" A third elder stood up, speaking with a deceptive, oily calm, though his shining eyes betrayed a different story.
"Silence!"
For the second time, the Grand Elder intervened. His voice didn’t just carry volume; it carried a weight that pressed the standing elders back into their seats. "We will leave him out there without any communication. At the same time, we will lock all communications over our entire world. Total blackout."
"What?!!" A sudden explosion of shock spread through the room. Even Moth looked at the Grand Elder in disbelief.
"There are traitors among us," the Grand Elder said, his voice dropping to a low, lethal tone. He didn’t flinch when faced with the hundreds of inquiring, fearful eyes.
"I can smell them sitting here. And I won’t let them get away with what they’ve done, or let them contact whatever other shadow cities they have spanned across our world. I will not allow any of you, you damn traitors, off the hook."
As his words landed, the Grand Elder shifted his gaze toward a specific group of people and gave a curt nod. These were his personal guards—his most trusted subordinates. They moved instantly.
The heavy thud of the Council’s massive reinforced gates locking shut snapped everyone back to a terrifying reality. The Grand Elder wasn’t just looking for spies; he was turning the Council chamber into a prison. He was dead serious about purging the infection, and he was starting right here.
[Listen up!]
Just when Moth was reeling from the sheer decisiveness of the Grand Elder, feeling his suspicions solidify toward the faction that had antagonised Hye from the start, a sudden, high-priority alert flashed across his interface. It was a private message, originating from no one else but the Grand Elder himself.
