Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Ghostblood

"As you wish.

What kind of mount do you want to be?"

"The Sunblood!"

"What’s that?"

"A mythical beast in our homeland. It is said to be the fastest horse in all the lands. The beast that the heroic spirit Gaomaru rode to unite the twelve kingdoms!"

"You seem to like this Gaomaru a lot."

"All of the kids in Ori like him! He is the unyielding spirit of freedom.

As a child, I have always dreamt of being him.

But then. Life happened."

"Well then. Now that death has happened to you."

Blaze opens his palm, a yellow fire flares up.

"You shall be reborn under my power.

To become my beast and my ride.

As you are innocent, this deal between us is based on mutual agreement. You shall be by my side until you decide not to anymore."

Mitsuhiro turns back into his soul form, a floating yellow fireball with flashing images of his face.

He is pulled inside Blaze’s palm, and in it, being sculpted into the beast of his desire.

Blaze doesn’t know much about this Sunblood, but he can look into Mitushiro’s soul to have a better understanding.

His eyes light up yellow, and the two beams reach inside of Mitsuhiro, finding the figure that he has always idolized.

Gaomaru, an ancient legend of his homeland, the one who united all the twelve tribes across the land to form the one great country of Orion.

Under him, a horse made of fiery red. This is no ordinary red, but the blazing orange-red of the early sun.

And based on it, Blaze creates an appearance that resembles the horse.

The result, however, is nothing like the Sunblood of the legend.

The yellow fireball jumps out of Blaze’s hand, and from it expands to a wide and large frame of a horse.

The sheer measurements of this horse are twice the size of a normal one.

The yellow light slowly forges its appearance.

Instead of the healthy, orange-red coat, a dark, skeletal body comes into creation.

Its upper body lacks any flesh a normal horse should have. Its ribcage is visibly exposed to the outside world, and inside it, a ball of yellow fire acts as its heart.

The horse’s mane burns and flickers in the wind. This is no ordinary hair, but a solid fire that is attached to the horse’s body.

There is no Sunblood. Instead, a Ghostblood is born.

A dead horse materializes into existence with fire spread all over its body.

Its exposed bones are as dark as the night. Black smoke exudes from its body, floating out in the air.

Mitsuhiro turns his long horse neck to look at his new body.

An invisible sweat runs on Blaze’s white mask. He did not intend to turn Mitsuhiro into this undead version of Sunblood. But for some reason, Ethereal Slave has betrayed him.

"I..."

Blaze intends to say something, but Mitushiro suddenly interrupts.

"This feels... right. It’s like I always should be this creature."

Mitushiro lifts his front body up, kicking his two forelegs in the air. He lets out a long, resonant neigh.

Smoke breathes out of the horse’s large nostrils. Its mane perks up and burns more fiercely.

I hope he’s not going to burn my ass when I ride him.

Blaze thinks. That’s the only worry he has right now.

And as if the world is telling them to go for a ride, the sun emerges from the horizon, shining the first light on this wretched land.

"It’s time to go."

"Climb on, Master!"

"Please. You are not my servant, and I am not your master. We are equal.

You can call me Wraith."

"Alright then, Wraith. Let’s ride!"

Blaze climbs on Mitsuhiro, and they dart away with the sunrise behind their backs.

The horse gallops on the desert, leaving fiery hoofprints on its path.

It is very fast. Much faster than the average car out there.

Dry wind of the desert blows onto the horse and Blaze. Its fiery mane dances in the wind with black smoke coming out of it, leaving a trail in the sky.

Luckily, Mitsuhiro’s body does not burn Blaze like he was worried about.

Blaze really doesn’t understand much about the logic behind this power.

It does what it wants to sometimes.

On horseback, Blaze takes out ten souls and feeds them to the Lantern. These are the souls that he already examined and deemed unworthy to be released.

The rest are still burning in misery. Blaze stops the Soul Flare for all the other souls, those that he has not looked into yet.

He really doesn’t want to harm the wrong people again. Mitsuhiro is a prime example.

Luckily he doesn’t hate Blaze for it.

Blaze, however, does feel a lot of regret. He has harmed the innocent due to his violent nature, even though it was unintentional.

On this bloody path that Blaze is walking, he will kill more people and save more people. Some may be caught in the middle of the crossfire, like Mitsuhiro.

It is inevitable.

But Blaze will try his best to not wreak havoc on the innocents. He will learn from the mistakes of both him and his enemies.

He won’t become the people he hates the most. Those that don’t care for the weak.

He will be feared, and he will be just.

They reach the edge of the desert just in time for the sunlight to cover their entire figure.

The sun shines behind Blaze and Mitushiro, outlining their unnatural appearance in daylight.

Blaze has digested all the rewards and loot from destroying the Roof. Now Blaze is ready to be integrated back into society.

He has to have a normal identity for a normal life. He must make sure Kana is safe and provided for.

Then, he can do all he wants at night to rain terror on the sinners.

Other ’entertainment establishments,’ the corrupted Police Force, the Iron Knight - Giancarlo Cavalcante, even the Hyperion Federation - those that are behind Mitushiro’s slavery.

Blaze will come for them all. He will cleanse every filthy Awakened from the face of this planet.

He does it not because he has to nor because he wants to.

He does it because he needs to. No one else will fight for the weak and the ordinary.

He will be the voice of the night, the vengeful spirit that hunted the monsters that disguised themselves as men in this world.

He shall be the Wraith of Darkness.
