I Only Want To Kill-Chapter 166: New Friends
"Holy s..." Before Gerald could even react, Blaze was already in front of him.
The Slaughter’s Blade thrusted forward and looked like it was going to pierce right through the man. But Blaze rotated the blade, turning to its wide blunt side and smacking Gerald.
Blaze’s current force was almost doubled his previous strength. Gerald was no longer able to stand in place, he got pushed away.
Gerald tried his best to brace for the impact. His feet dragged on the ground, creating two smoking trails.
Blaze’s strike hit like a truck. Gerald couldn’t believe the huge gap of power. his internal organs got turned upside down with one simple smack.
"Damn! I can’t believe S-rank can enhance that much!" Gerald cursed.
Blaze smiled gently, raised his sword up high. "This isn’t my S-rank power."
When he said that, even the calm gambler Thomas had to widen his eyes. "No way. You have multiple powers?"
"It is a common thing. All the members of the A-force have multiple powers as well. The strong never relies on only one trick." Blaze said.
Gerald held his rib, a mechanical part stuck to his body, creating a plate of armor.
"You’re right. Strong people always have multiple powers. Me also." Gerald said.
He pointed the cannon in his left hand toward Blaze. The energy that was floating freely in the air suddenly got absorbed inside the barrel.
The mechanical parts moved independently, circling around his arms. The energy got condensed into one giant ball of blue light, electricity leaded out from underneath the steel.
"Oh? Energy manipulation? And then metal manipulation?" Blaze said.
"Not quite. If I had those powers, I would have been much more than an A-rank. This is Logistic Machine and Gas Condensation. Both are A-rank. It is quite a powerful combined attack. I suggest you dodge it."
Blaze smiled, "You’re being more than fair, Gerald. It would be too rude of me to dodge your attack. Come! Fire at me! And I will show you what an S-rank power looks like."
"Hehe! I like your attitude. I’m going full force."
Blaze retracted the Slaughter’s Blade. His aura also disappeared.
[You have lost the status effect: Lightning Ascension]
[Your attributes have returned to normal]
"What is he trying to do..." Thomas hid behind a wall and poked his head out to see.
The commotion had drawn the attention of a lot of people. Even Samantha had run out from her bar to watch the fight.
"What did you two do this time?!" Sam raised her voice.
"Calm down! Calm down! It is just a friendly match! We’re about to see our new friend in his full fledged S-rank power very soon."
Sam shut her mouth and looked over. She, too, was curious about the true extent of an S-rank.
Blaze’s feet lifted off the ground. His eyes glowed in blue. He did not have flying power but the electricity within his body was enough to elevate him.
There had never been any rains in the Undercity. They were underground so no water could ever reach here. But when Blaze flew up to the sky, clouds suddenly appeared.
The clouds circling around the giant yellow stone on the ceiling, treating it as their moon. Lightning roared within the clouds. Their pristine white color quickly darkened.
Then, even the city lost its color. Now, instead of the yellow tint, it was filled with a dark blue shade.
"Holy shit..." Gerald said. He gulped.
He was obviously scared from the scene but his manhood did not allow him to stand down. He also knew that Blaze wasn’t a bloodthirsty killer so at least he knew he wouldn’t be killed.
He hoped he wouldn’t be killed.
Gerald released the power of his cannon. A thick and large beam of light shot out. It drew a straight white line into the air of the Undercity.
However, it was still small compared to the large size of the cloud layer above.
Blaze raised his right hand up. Blue lightning bolts struck his palm. They converged into one single point and turned into a dot of blue light.
Then Blaze threw it toward the white beam. The small size of the dot crushed the beam and pushed it back. The dot moved slowly. But every centimeter it advanced, the beam was swallowed whole.
Gerald screamed with every fiber of his being. He poured all his energy into this one attack. But it was not enough.
The dot kept advancing and advancing. The beam kept being erased and shortened.
Finally, the dot reached the cannon and it stopped right before hitting Gerald. The burly man lost all his strength, he fell on his back and fainted.
The dot disappeared.
Everyone couldn’t help but open their mouths wide.
The orange-haired man that had tried to intimidate Blaze felt more terrified than ever. He imagined that if things had escalated, he would have been dead a thousand times. The man quickly thought of things to do so that Blaze wouldn’t hold a grudge at him.
Samantha shared a dry laugh. She didn’t know what to say so she laughed awkwardly. It was lucky that Blaze was not a deranged Awakened. If he was, this entire town would have been flipped upside down.
Blaze slowly flew down from above. His eyes lost its glow and he lost all of his ’holiness’.
He approached the fainted Gerald, who was being cared for by Thomas.
"Is your friend, alright?" Blaze said.
"Yup. Only too tired. The idiot used up all his reserved energy." Thomas said. He took out a few ginnies from his pocket and crushed it into dust.
"Open your mouth, you idiot." Thomas said, shoving the dusted ginnies into Gerald’s mouth.
It took a few seconds but Gerald quickly gained consciousness.
He jumped up immediately.
"That. Was. Awesome." Gerald exclaimed. "So that is the power of an S-rank! So beautiful! So powerful! I like it!"
"Yeah. More or less." Blaze said. Thunder Ascended God wasn’t a normal S-rank power, though. It was affected by Lightning Ascension, gaining the Divine Ascension effect when the metamorphosis had taken place.
Mythomacy also strengthened its power.
It also had the power of an infant god behind it.
All of those aspects created this monster of an S-rank. Blaze doubted that normal S-rank power would be that insane. The clearest example was his Genesis Legion. That was a good S-rank power. Given enough time, Blaze would be able to build an army of S-rank.
But. It. Take. Time.
A lot of time.
Thunder Ascended God was powerful right at the moment of its birth.
Thomas slapped the back of Gerald’s head.
"I wasted five ginnies to stabilize you. Count that toward the bet and you owe me 105 ginnies."
"Hey, now! You shouldn’t be that stingy toward a friend." Gerald said.
"Ginnies! Now! Or I will tell each of your girlfriends..."
Thomas wasn’t able to finish his sentence as Gerald covered his mouth instantly.
"Alright. Alright. Alright. I will pay okay."
Thomas nodded.
"Well. That was fun. You guys wanna grab a drink?" Blaze invited them to Sam’s bar.
"Of course!" Gerald said.
"I can’t refuse an S-rank’s invitation." Thomas said.
They found a table in a secluded corner and sat in.
Sam brought a few beers to them. "He’s my new bouncer. Better treat him right."
Sam darted her eyes to the two troublemakers. Gerald scratched his head while Thomas avoided her gaze. Then Sam left them alone.
"Ah! The Lioness finally leaves!" Gerald said.
"Lioness?" Blaze asked.
Thomas tipped his hat. "That’s how we called Sam."
"What a coincidence. My friend also has this nickname." Blaze said.
"Your friend is also a violent woman?" Gerald said.
Blaze laughed. "No. The nickname relates to her power, not her personality."
Well, to be honest, Blaze thought it was related to her personality a little bit. But he wouldn’t talk bad behind her back.
"What about Sam? Why the nickname? Is she that violent?"
"Well, my friend." Thomas chucked a beer down then continued. "This is not a friendly place. You may not see it because you’re an S-rank. But people like Sam, she has to work hard to get here. She also has to be tough or else other people will take advantage of her."
"No, Thomas. I totally see it. You may not believe it but I wasn’t always an S-rank."
"Oh? An S-rank with a tough history, eh? My kind of man."
"What about you two? How did you end up here?" Blaze said.
Thomas and Gerald looked at each other.
Gerald spoke first.
"I was participating in an experiment conducted by the Institute. Their main goal was to find a reliable way to get into the Dream Layer.
They told me that if they can figure out a way to get in. Then they will be able to figure out a way to get out.
As a man of justice I am, I bravely applied for that experiment. They were able to send me in. But then I have been trapped here since."
"Don’t believe him. He got in trouble with another A-rank so he went into the Institute to hide." Thomas jumped in.
"Hey!" Gerald exclaimed.
Blaze shared a laugh. "Then how about you, Thomas?"
Thomas shook his head in rhythm. "Trust the wrong people. Got backstabbed and killed. Then I woke up in the woods."
Thomas seemed to not want to speak much about his past so Blaze didn’t ask further questions.
"I see... Well, you don’t need worry as I will never backstab you.
Cheers to new friends?"
Blaze held up his cup. Thomas smiled, hiding his grumpiness away.
Thomas and Gerald both held up their cups.
"Cheers to new friends!"
