I Only Want To Kill-Chapter 160: The Abandoned City
Blaze does not agree to do anything and lets Lucia cry out like a widow in heat. They spend the night silently, without any extra ’activity’.
The night is cold, and their skins are warm to each other.
Morning comes, and Lucia wakes up first. She sees the peaceful Blaze lying peacefully on the bed. Even in sleep, his eyes furrow, showing an intimidating aura passively.
Lucia observes him carefully. For some reason, he looks different from what she remembers. Blaze is supposed to have a divine aura around him. Not exactly a holy halo on his head, but his vibe, his face, and his demeanor should deliver a godlike vibe, something that a mere mortal should not have.
This Blaze also has it. But the halo seems hidden, immature. It’s like he is a younger version of who she knows. Considering Blaze, it is very possible that it is true.
He is the man that is able to achieve the impossible. Lucia won’t be surprised if this isn’t the Blaze she knew.
But what is going on with her? Her name is Lucia De la Croix. Her family has devoted their lives to the Holy Church for generations. She has never had any other names than Lucia. But Blaze called her Alyson.
Is all her life a lie? An illusive spell that was cast down upon her? Or is he being manipulated by some kind of force that is way above what both of them can understand?
The possibilities are endless, and Lucia can’t decide which is which. She will just throw her brain away anyhow. Just like always when she is with him.
Lucia towers over Blaze and hugs his face, enjoying the present time.
She is wearing a kind of undergarment that is very thin. Thin enough for Blaze to feel her skin and be flooded with her soft but overwhelming smell. The smell that can make every man lose their mind.
Blaze jerks back immediately, waking up from his sleep.
"Oh? I’m sorry if I wake you." Lucia says. Her red hair reflects under the opaque sunlight, creating an even more fantastical feel to her.
Blaze feels as though she isn’t real.
"It’s alright." He scratches his head and looks away. Her undergarments are very thin. He is almost able to see her entire figure; better not keep looking.
"I’ve been thinking, Blaze. You really are the man I know, but from a time way earlier. The Blaze I knew would not hesitate to eat me alive when he sees me like this."
Lucia grabs Blaze’s chin gently and pulls him close. She hugs him tightly.
Her skin is smooth and soft. It is as if she is made of cloud and tenderness. Her smell is sweet and overwhelming. Her entire presence is enough to make any man fall to their knees.
"We need to go," Blaze says.
"Yeah. Yeah. It is always business with you." Lucia says.
They get dressed and get ready for what is to come. A short, peaceful moment in this chaotic Dream Layer. But soon, they will need to return to the ongoing battle out there. People need them, and they still have unresolved matters in the real world.
Blaze briefly says goodbye to Cavanaugh and goes toward the entrance to the Undercity with Lucia.
The entrance is an underground train station that has been out of working order for an unknown amount of time. To enter the station, one will need to go through an abandoned city.
According to Cavanaugh, this place was the crowded settlement inside the Dream Layer. Unfortunately, a terrible disaster fell upon them, and the entire city was wiped out in a couple of days.
Survivors went under the city and built a new and safer city. However, no surface dweller has been able to reach the Undercity and return to tell the tales.
Everyone that goes to the Undercity has disappeared. Either they died because of some unknown horror hiding under there, or they never wanted to come back, leaving the people behind with questions and hopelessness.
When Blaze and Lucia reach the abandoned city, they are surprised by how advanced it looks. The current village settlement looks like some eighteenth- or nineteenth-century location, but the abandoned city looks a lot like Blaze’s current world. At least, when it was still intact.
Now, the city is in rubble, trash built upon trash, and unknown horror lurking behind every corner.
Blaze takes out the Moonlight Twinblade and gets ready to fight. Lucia takes out her rapier and Blaze’s Irony.
They move carefully into the shadow of what once was a busy city in this Dream Layer.
"What do we need to find?" Luvia says.
"A train station. Cavanaugh tells me it is the only train station in the city. It is impossible to miss."
"That’s it? No other instructions? This place is huge. We may take days in this city to find that station."
"Don’t worry. It’s probably around here somewhere."
Blaze and Lucia tread forward carefully. Other than some dried corpses lying on the ground, they see no enemies.
The corpses on the ground are dry and thin. Their arms and legs look like one single layer of skin wrapped around their bones. The skull deteriorates most of the organs, leaving only the teeth remaining.
For some reason, their teeth are perfect. No yellow stains or broken teeth, a perfect pair of jaws with pristine white teeth.
Blaze squats down near one of the corpses to examine it closer.
"What’s wrong?" Lucia says.
"There is something off with these corpses." Blaze strokes his chin and says.
Suddenly, he draws the Twinblade and thrusts at the neck of one of the corpses. The blade effortlessly severs the neck of the corpse. Its dried head rolls on the ground freely.
Nothing out of the ordinary happens. It looks like it is just a normal, ordinary corpse.
Lucia aims Irony at the corpse, getting ready to attack at any moment.
But seconds pass and nothing happens.
"Weird..." Blaze tilts his head, tapping his index finger on his jaw. "I still have that itch in my heart that there is something wrong with these corpses."
"Should we keep looking?"
"Yeah! Let’s continue. But try to stay far from these corpses. They may look harmless, but we don’t know."
Lucia nods.
The pair continue on their path to look for the underground entrance. The city is fairly large with many types of buildings. Most of them are short, dwarfed buildings due to the lack of advanced materials. But two- or three-story houses are not rare. Blaze and Lucia see a few of them on their search for the underground entrance.
The pair walk around until noon, still unable to find anything of significance.
Blaze then has a bright idea.
"Stay down here, alright? I’m going up."
With his respectable speed, Blaze climbs onto the highest tree in the area. He hopes that with the vantage point advantage, they will be able to find what they’re looking for.
A location a bit far away in the west seems to resemble an underground entrance. It had that iconic low ceiling and staircase that goes into the ground.
"There," Blaze points. "I think that is our destination."
Blaze says, but he doesn’t hear any response from Lucia. He looks down and sees that she has disappeared. The only thing left is his revolver, Irony, lying on the ground.
Blaze drops down hurriedly.
"Lucia! Lucia! Where are you?!"
He shouts, but there isn’t any response. The only thing that replies is the cold, hard wind.
Suddenly, the corpses from earlier start to move. Illegible noises come out of their mouths.
"Argh! I know all of you are no good!"
A dried corpse stands up and rushes at Blaze. With their missing muscles and skin wrapped around bones, the corpse is surprisingly fast and nimble. It moves across the field like a skinny dog, dashing with four legs. A long tongue sticks out of its mouth, flailing wildly in the wind.
It approaches Blaze in seconds and lunges at him.
The Twinblade appears in Blaze’s hand, and with one simple strike, the dried corpse splits in two.
No blood is shed and no scream of pain. The corpse keeps crawling at Blaze with its two hands. Its legs move by their own, scraping on the ground.
"What is this? You kind of seem like... zombies."
Blaze takes out the Irony and fires at the head of the dried zombie. The white bullet penetrates its skull.
A high-pitched screeching noise fills the space. White smoke comes out of the hole in the zombie’s forehead. Its lower body becomes motionless first. Then its upper body falls on the ground, not moving anymore.
"Huh? So Irony is extremely effective against you guys. Guns vs. Zombies. How fitting. But where is Lucia?"
Blaze puts the Twinblade into the Inventory and uses Irony as his main weapon. He dashes around the field, firing white glowing bullets, and penetrates the skulls of those dried zombies.
In the real world, Alyson wakes up. Her body is wet, filled with sweat and unknown substances. She had the craziest dream ever.
She dreamed that she was sleeping with Blaze in a tight, small tent.
