Chapter 86: Chapter 86 - Weapons And Enemy Spaceship?

A few minutes later, Zion sat down in the empty training room after having moved Koru to one of the personal rooms.

’He can learn there just fine,’ he thought, closing his eyes for a moment.

Zion exhaled deeply, deciding on the next weapon he wanted to see.

"Let’s start with the gravity wings," he said, opening his eyes again. "When I summon it, please measure the energy consumption."

He paused for a second. "And warn me instantly if something affects the ship."

[Affirmative,] Uriel replied instantly.

Zion nodded once, standing up in the center of the training room.

Without any further words, he guided energy toward his back and thought about the gravity wings.

For a second, nothing happened.

Then, a painful pressure came from between his shoulder blades.

Zion clenched his jaw for a moment, a dull ache replacing the pressure as he felt the nanobots detach from his body.

A thick lump of metal separated from his back, floating in the air behind him.

But it wasn’t done there.

The metal lump split into two fragments, each roughly the size of his arms, though their surfaces remained jagged and uneven.

Zion inhaled slowly, quickly glancing in the mirror.

’They aren’t wings yet,’ he thought. ’But they’re getting there.’

It wasn’t just the appearance that had changed. He could feel it clearly now— each of his two wings held its own distinct ability.

[Summoning the Gravity Wings cost host 7% energy,] Uriel reported, snapping him out of his thoughts. [Its consumption rate per second has increased slightly, but host’s maximum amount of energy increased by far more.]

"Good," Zion said, glancing at two metal dummies in front of him. "Let’s test the first function."

He lifted his hand, concentrating on the dummies as he felt the energy drain from his suit.

The dummies were pressed down into the ground instantly, metal creaking as they slowly folded inward.

"It’s stronger," he muttered, nodding approvingly.

[The first ability takes three percent energy per second,] Uriel said again, voice light.

’A two percent decrease,’ Zion thought, smiling slightly. ’A huge improvement in and of itself.’

But that wasn’t even the second ability he felt was there.

He straightened and shifted his focus back to the dummies.

"The second ability," he mumbled, raising his hand.

For a split second, nothing happened.

Then the squeezed dummies flew up, slamming into the ceiling in a loud crash and embedding themselves into the reinforced plating.

Pieces of metal flew everywhere, forcing Zion to take a few steps back.

Just as he thought he was safe, the metal shards that had just embedded themselves into the ground began shaking.

[Host should cancel ability immediately,] Uriel said, as other objects in the room also started floating up rapidly.

Zion did exactly that, feeling the pressure around him vanish instantly.

He braced his hands on his knees, breathing heavily.

"That cost a lot of energy," he exclaimed between breaths. "But it was amazing!"

The second ability was exactly the opposite of the first. Instead of pressing down, it took everything up.

"Is it some kind of antigravity?" he asked, a hint of excitement in his voice.

[No,] Uriel replied. [The wings do not generate a certain type of gravity. Rather, they seem to manipulate existing ones.]

Zion nodded slowly, rubbing his temples as he deactivated the Gravity Wings entirely.

"That explains the energy cost too," he mumbled. "Since the second ability goes against the current."

The realization made him feel a faint thrill, but also caution.

The training dummy was still lodged in the ceiling.

If that had been a person...

Zion shook his head lightly, a small smile on his face.

After a few minutes of resting, he stood up again and moved back to the center of the room.

"One weapon down," he said quietly, eyes filled with expectation. "Now, the Judgement Lance."

He poured energy into his right arm, feeling the nanobots rapidly leave his body.

Golden light shone out beside him, lighting up the entire training room. Slowly, something massive shaped itself into existence and forced itself into Zion’s hand.

Zion tightly gripped the lance, waiting for the tip to finish forming.

Finally, it was fully formed.

It was enormous, the tip reaching nearly twice his height. The shaft seemed to be made of solid gold, and intricate markings followed a spiral down its length, glowing with a faint blue light.

Zion’s breath caught in his throat just looking at it.

"This thing..." he muttered, amazed.

He swung the lance lightly through the air, facing almost no resistance, as if the air itself wasn’t there anymore.

’Should I put some energy into it?’ he thought, the markings lighting up in a golden color.

The air around the lance began to blur as two spinning forces of energy slowly covered the spiral.

[Host, do not test this weapon here!] Uriel’s voice echoed. [The spinning forces could tear a hole straight through the ship.]

Zion snapped out of his awe, instantly cutting off the energy supply.

Even as the energy surrounding the spiral disappeared, he could feel the immense force contained within the weapon.

’Just holding onto it already feels dangerous,’ he thought, gripping it tightly.

"What was the energy consumption like when I used it?" Zion asked, raising the lance slightly.

[It started out relatively low and grew progressively, with larger chunks being drained each second,] Uriel replied, still slightly shaken.

Zion nodded once and dismissed the lance.

He stood still for a long moment, his hand still raised as if the lance were still there.

"...Another time," he said quietly. "I’ll use this once we reach the planet."

Lowering his arm, he let out a slow breath.

[Host, could you charge the suit?] Uriel asked, voice low. [Your current energy levels are at four percent.]

"Oh," Zion let out, eyes widening slightly. "Of course."

He turned around slowly, his mind still focused on the lance as he entered the corridor leading to his private room.

Once inside, he plugged a cable into his arm and laid down on the bed.

’I can’t casually use that weapon,’ he thought. ’I don’t want to end up in another situation like with the railgun.’

[Agreed,] Uriel said. [Besides, it’s far too dangerous in most environments.]

Zion nodded once in agreement, but remained quiet.

’I have to get it under control,’ he thought, closing his eyes. ’Maybe then I could use it wherever I want.’

As he rested and recharged, his mind was busy imagining ways to train.

But...

It didn’t take long before he was interrupted.

[Host,] Uriel’s voice called out, a hint of panic in it. [I’m detecting a spaceship far behind us!]
