Chapter 106: Chapter 106: Don’t Go Too Far

After saying all that, Holloway asked Claire Sinclair directly, "Do you want to be action-oriented or idea-oriented?"

"Action-oriented, of course," Claire Sinclair answered almost without thinking.

Holloway smiled. "Great. That means we’re in the same boat from now on. We’ll have to cheer each other on."

’In the same boat...’

Claire Sinclair remembered something Adrian Quincy had said to her not long ago: "My boat won’t be docked for long. You’d better get on board soon."

She hadn’t understood what he meant back then, but now, it seemed she did.

’Basically, this meant she was no longer moving forward alone. She would have to work even harder so she wouldn’t drag anyone down.’

Just as she was lost in thought, Phoebe Lockwood suddenly walked in. The click-clack of her high heels was hurried, and her face was a mask of reluctance. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

Phoebe Lockwood stopped in front of Claire Sinclair with her arms crossed. Since Claire was sitting at her desk, Phoebe’s condescending gaze made her seem incredibly arrogant and rude.

"Claire Sinclair, I’m sorry for knocking over your lunch earlier and making you miss your meal. I’m here to apologize. I’m sorry. Please forgive me!"

Her impatient tone, as if she were rushing off to her next appointment, held zero sincerity.

Claire Sinclair didn’t even spare her a glance. She continued organizing her documents and said nonchalantly,

"I wouldn’t dare accept an apology from the Eldest Miss Lockwood. What if your governor father comes to settle the score with me? I’d lose my job. Eldest Miss Lockwood, you should just go back to wherever you came from. Apologizing is beneath someone of your status."

"Y-You! What do you mean? I already came over to apologize! Besides, if I hadn’t knocked over your lunch, do you think you would have had the chance to sit and eat with Young Master Quincy?!"

’Wow. So me getting invited to lunch by Adrian Quincy is now thanks to this white lotus? What kind of logic is that?’

Claire scoffed. "Young Master Quincy inviting me to lunch has absolutely nothing to do with you, Eldest Miss Lockwood. It’s clear you don’t actually want to apologize, so why force yourself?"

"Claire Sinclair, don’t you go too far!"

Hearing this, Claire couldn’t just sit there any longer. She looked up and met her gaze. "Phoebe Lockwood, everyone here is busy, and I’m busy too. I don’t have time to bully you. Could you please stop disturbing our work?"

Phoebe Lockwood wanted to retort, but she inadvertently saw that everyone else was buried in their work. Her father’s advice also surfaced in her mind, and only then did she realize her behavior was inappropriate.

’You wretched bitch. I won’t let you get away with this!’

Phoebe Lockwood had lost all intention of apologizing. In the end, she just said, "I’m not feeling well, so I’m leaving. You all carry on."

And with that, she left.

Claire Sinclair couldn’t be bothered with such a woman and went back to her work.

Holloway secretly gave her a thumbs-up. "Claire Sinclair, gotta hand it to you. That was great."

Claire Sinclair smiled sheepishly. "We should get back to work. Editor-in-Chief Summers is watching us."

"Haha, Editor-in-Chief Summers doesn’t care about stuff like this. It’s fine. Let’s keep talking..."

Holloway was right. It seemed Editor-in-Chief Summers really didn’t care about such things and might even be tacitly condoning it.

’I wonder, is Editor-in-Chief Summers action-oriented, or idea-oriented?’

...

After a busy day, they finally finished all their work just as it was getting dark. But they couldn’t leave yet; they had to help pack things up to take back to the newspaper headquarters.

Editor-in-Chief Summers gave her instructions: "Thank you for your hard work today, everyone. Delilah Donovan, find a few people to help move the chairs from this office back to the conference room next door. The rest of you, take the things we brought from headquarters back with you. Remember to check everything carefully and don’t leave any valuables behind."

Delilah Donovan replied with a long face, "Yes, Editor-in-Chief."
