Chapter 67: He knows this place very well.

After getting his approval and learning that this guy was no longer a Beast Master, Edward burned his chains and helped him walk. He was deadly thin, but he still had the strength to walk almost unaided.

"Where’s Clara?" he asked as they walked toward the front door.

"She’s talking to Scylas right now. She has one of our people with her," Edward replied.

"Where are they?" he asked.

"The main hall, I think."

Silas stared at Edward. How did he know? Was he a Perception Mage?

’Surely,’ he thought, since Edward was the youngest of the three.

"That bastard Scylas is still looking for clues, then," Silas sneered and looked up at the ceiling...

"What do you mean?" Edward asked, curious.

"Hehe, you’ll find out when we get to the main hall. That’s where all the evidence you’re looking for is."

Just then, they reached the door, but Edward and Silas were pulled back by Aurora.

BOOM!

A poisonous explosion emerged from the walls and floor, engulfing them.

"Yellow Death Poison," Aurora whispered, quickly pulling them out of range.

"I see." Edward finally understood. "They mentioned earlier that this poison was to prevent Mr. Silas from escaping. It didn’t activate when we entered because he wasn’t escaping."

Arnold nodded. "Yellow Death Poison comes from a caterpillar that grows from the blood of the victim they want to mark. It’s the most efficient way to kill in this type of situation."

Although the caterpillar was already dead, the poison was spreading. They had to get out.

Just then, Edward frowned and looked up at the ceiling. "Scylas has discovered us!"

"What?" Aurora turned to look at him in shock.

"They’ve surrounded the group!" Suddenly, he became enraged and drew his sword.

"I’ll clear the way," he said. "Help Mr. Silas." He immediately thought of taking out his butterfly.

Until now, he had only shown it to Aurora, but if things continued like this, Scylas would escape. He couldn’t allow that.

Even so, Silas suddenly grabbed him by the arm. "Don’t do it. The yellow death poison is too powerful. This place has a secret door, let’s go that way," he said.

"Secret door? I’m sure it’s guarded..." Edward protested.

"It’s not. No one knows it exists," he assured him.

Edward stared at him. ’How does he know that? This torture site was built by him?’ Edward had many questions, but he nodded and looked at Aurora and Arnold... They nodded carefully.

Both were prepared to attack at any moment, but ran after Silas.

They retraced their steps all the way back to the cell where Silas had been before, although they didn’t go inside. They headed to the right and walked down the hallway until they reached a dead end, where Silas finally stopped.

"Now what?" Edward looked at him.

"It’s here..." he whispered. "3, 4, 6..." He murmured numbers as he looked at the floor.

He counted a total of 16 numbers.

At first, Edward didn’t understand, but after seeing his gaze on the moldy wall before them, he realized that he was counting the stacked rocks that formed it.

He counted 16 from bottom to top. 13 from top to bottom. and 23 from right to left.

Then he raised his hand and clenched his teeth, before unleashing a powerful punch at one of the stacked rocks that formed the wall. His skeleton screamed in pain, a pain he could no longer feel. He had spent so many years submerged in pain that something like this was like child’s play.

His body had almost no blood left, to begin with...

His blow did not sink a lever or a button, as Edward had imagined. Instead, it activated a magical tool of unknown origin that rested in the lower right corner.

This magical tool glowed and sent a beam of energy that crossed the wall...

That was the first process.

The second was the same. A precise blow that activated a second magical tool...

’Why does this feel familiar?’ Edward frowned and put a hand to his chin.

His mind raced through his memories, but he couldn’t find anything... Despite that, every time the man knocked on the door, the feeling of familiarity in his heart grew stronger.

Crack—

The wall suddenly fell gently to one side, revealing a door.

"Let’s go," whispered Silas, before pushing the "wall," now transformed into a door.

There were no hinges here, only magical tools. So there was no noise at all.

"These tools..." Aurora suddenly realized something. "Edward, doesn’t this remind you of the tools Uncle Abraham used?" she asked, almost in a whisper.

Right!

"My father’s tools... The ones he said he used to sharpen his mining tools." He realized and looked at Silas, who was also looking at him.

"Abraham?" Silas asked. "Do you mean Lord Abraham Lux?" he asked.

"You... Do you know my father?"

"Are you Lord Lux’s son?" Silas’s eyes lit up, and suddenly, Silas connected several faces in his mind.

Hair as yellow as gold... bright blue eyes. Delicate, yet masculine features.

Two faces in his mind connected into one face:

"Your mother..." Silas trembled slightly. "Can you tell me her name?"

"Laura Valiere," Edward replied without hesitation.

"You really are the son of Lord Lux and Lady Laura!" he exclaimed with genuine surprise.

"How do you know my father and mother, Mr. Silas? My mother died when I was born, and my father is a miner..." Edward couldn’t finish speaking.

His body suddenly tensed as his mind sensed imminent danger near his other caterpillar.

"Lander and the others are in trouble!"

They had to start running up the spiral staircase, built inside one of the mansion’s most important columns.

From the outside, it looked like decoration or something to support the mansion, but inside it was a huge staircase connecting the basement to the main room.

When they reached the top, Silas opened another secret door. On both sides, it appeared to be part of the wall; it was a true gem of magical engineering.

’I never thought this kind of thing existed here,’ Edward thought, genuinely surprised. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

The fact that his father’s tools were here was even more intriguing, but he had to keep his wits about him.

The mission was the most important thing right now.

When they reached the top, they were in the room next to the main hall.

It was large, but filled with shelves of books and scrolls. There was a single bed, a single desk, and a single small lamp that provided overhead lighting.

The room’s decor was unremarkable, except for the pile of scrolls scattered across the floor.

"Don’t leave. There must be important things here against him," said Silas, pointing to the scrolls. "In the main hall, I’ll just show you a trick I’ve kept for many years," whispered Silas.

Edward nodded and looked at Aurora and Arnold. "Watch the door and windows. I’ll search. If Lander is in danger, you have permission to go out and face them."

They both nodded, and the group split up.

Edward searched for information. Silas devoured the food Aurora gave him while she and Arnold guarded the entrances.

They could hear the voices from here...

Aurora couldn’t help but wonder, ’How did Scylas find out we were here?’
