Chapter 59: Interesting information

After a brief interrogation, Edward left the alley and called his Caterpillar to him. He no longer needed to be there.

That man had given him good information.

’Iron Blood Street, corner 7...’ Edward smiled.

According to the man, the woman who had sent him to be beaten up was Silas’s heiress, a woman with a strong character but with a weakness for gambling. She often beats up those she disagrees with or who are unwilling to pay for a bet.

She has a strong influence in this area, but her main place of operation is Iron Blood Street, three streets from here.

’As I recall, that street connects to Middle Street, which leads to the middle district and ends near the Merchant mansion.’

That woman was a bit obvious, but it didn’t matter. It made everything easier for him.

He met up with Lander again, who was already waiting with his parents.

"Edward, these are my parents," he said, turning to them. "Father, Mother, this is Edward, a friend I made recently at the academy."

"Nice to meet you, ma’am, sir..." Edward shook their hands...

"You’re on a mission, right?" The woman avoided shaking his hand and frowned. "You... Do you really have to investigate that dangerous woman?"

Edward could see that her hand was shaking as she spoke. She was nervous.

He didn’t know if it was because she was a mother, worried about her son, or...

"Don’t worry, ma’am." Edward smiled at her. "It’s just routine investigation. That young lady’s behavior is a little strange, and she has alerted the academy leaders. It seems they want to make her reconsider. It’s not good for the city," he said, before listing several crimes she had committed.

"That’s precisely why..." The woman trembled. "W-why don’t you leave that mission to another group? Y-you’re new students, it’s dangerous..." In the end, her words were almost a whisper.

"Again, you don’t need to worry. Our team is made up of two seniors who are very experienced and quite strong, things will go well. The academy doesn’t give us missions they don’t think we’re capable of completing." Edward spoke softly, trying to calm the lady’s obvious concern.

It wasn’t his specialty, but as the leader of the group, he knew this was his job.

Although her anxiety subsided, it wasn’t until her husband intervened that she stopped talking.

"Wife, go back inside and get some water. Let me talk to them and don’t worry." The man, who was about 60 years old, interjected.

She nodded, still nervous, and went to calm down.

"Don’t pay any attention to her, she’s just nervous because it’s Lander’s first mission." The man smiled. "I’m Gunter Konan."

"Edward Lux."

"All right, little Edward, you can call me old Gunter or uncle. Since you’re Lander’s friend, we’ll treat you well. But I know you’re busy, so I won’t take up too much of your time. Come on, let’s talk about what you need, and I’ll give you what I can." Gunter Konan led them to a table in the bar.

The bar had closed two hours ago, so it was a bit messy and smelly, but none of them cared.

Edward began to explain the mission... with a lot of embellishment. He didn’t mention Silas at all, nor did he mention the murder.

"Hmm, I always knew that girl would end up catching the attention of the big shots someday, but to even reach the powerful instructors at the Provincial Academy..." Gunter sighed, shaking his head.

"She’s a little strange a lot of the time, acting peculiar, as if she doesn’t care about anything and just wants to gamble and gamble... Sometimes she also seems to lose herself in alcohol, but other times she’s a little more animated and chatty."

"Does she act differently every time?" Edward asked, puzzled.

Gunter nodded. "Yes. Sometimes she seems to want to unleash her fury on everyone. Other times she just wants to spend money... And other times, she just wants to drink. She’s only spoken to me about twice to tell me worthless things, and those are the only two times I’ve seen her smile genuinely."

Perhaps she was suffering from some kind of disorder, but from what he had heard from the guy in the alley, she didn’t seem like it at all.

’It has to be something else.’

Edward looked at Gunter. "Have you ever heard her talk about her father? I heard he’s a great merchant, leader of the Merchant Tower."

"Oh, no. She never talks about her father... In fact, I think they don’t get along, because of her behavior and the fact that she doesn’t seem to go home very often. I once heard from her subordinates that she only comes back once a month."

Edward nodded with a slight smile. That explains why the guy in the alley mentioned that she possibly lives on Iron Blood Street.

"Anything else?" he asked.

Gunter thought for a moment longer, then looked up. "Uh, a man from the Merchant House came looking for her once. It was strange because he covered his face for the most part. I suspect it was her father, from the way he looked out of the corner of his eye."

He didn’t find much value in that, but Edward began to ask himself questions that had no answers, so he decided to move on.

"Thank you very much, Mr. Gunter. I don’t think we’ll need to investigate this area too much for now," he said, getting up.

Lander looked at him, shocked. "Really?"

"I found something interesting earlier. Let’s move on."

"Aren’t you going to stay for breakfast?" Gunter asked. "Even though we’re a bar, one of the reasons people visit us so much is because of the delicious homemade food we prepare. I was planning to..."

"Thank you, Mr. Gunter. We’ll probably come back mid-morning. But now we have to move on. Maybe we can resolve this matter faster than we thought."

"Uh..." Gunter sighed and nodded. "All right, I’ll wish you luck then," he said and looked at Lander.

"If you can solve it as soon as possible, your mother will be more at ease. You know how she is."

Lander stood up. "I know, Father! We’ll work hard on it."

Seconds later, Lander and Edward left the bar and headed toward the alleyway.

After checking that the man had left, Edward proceeded through.

As they passed by, Lander crouched down. "This is fresh blood," he said.

Edward nodded slightly. Naturally, from a few minutes ago...

"Do you think you can find out who it belongs to or what happened?" he asked. He wasn’t very familiar with the magic group Perception; until now, he hadn’t learned any magic for it.

"Finding out who it belongs to isn’t possible with my current abilities, but I might be able to find out where it went." Lander took some gloves out of his storage ring and put them on, and he also took out a few rare stones.

"Give me a moment," he said, before getting to work.
