Chapter 45: Something’s wrong

Edward took a step back, almost stumbling until he fell.

His eyes filled with alarm and his body trembled.

Instantly, the sword appeared in his hand. He gripped it as tightly as he could, before swinging it at a puppet that appeared in front of his body.

CLANK!

Even with all his strength, the reinforced material the puppet was made of couldn’t be pierced with a single blow. He left marks on the body and pushed it away, but failed to "kill" it.

The puppet staggered backward and fell into the middle of a group of young people.

"Ahh!" The scream reverberated and woke up all the stunned students, their bodies began to tremble.

Those who had no combat experience backed away, wanting to run.

Others, more determined, threw themselves frantically and without strategy into combat against the puppets... They had in mind that, being puppets, they only had to tear off or cut off their heads... those failed immediately.

Whether they had weapons or used their own bodies, the lion claws of these puppets were astonishingly sharp. Several of them saw their bodies pierced by that blade.

A cruel battle ensued amid cries of anguish, pain, and fear.

Among them... there were several people who stood out.

The first of them was Robert, naturally.

He stomped forward and summoned his lion.

Despite Robert’s large size, the lion leaped over him and landed on one of the puppets.

ROARRR!

The lion’s roar woke up the few students who were still stunned and announced the start of combat for Robert.

His hands were surrounded by fire, and he launched a blow at the puppet held by the lion.

His attack did not strike with his fists; he was too far away to do so. But a fist of fire shot out of his hands like a fireball and struck the puppet in the chest.

The attack itself wasn’t that powerful, but these puppets weren’t very resistant to magic. It ended up with a hole in its chest in a matter of seconds.

However, there were too many puppets. Two of them approached the lion and struck it with their claws, pushing it away, allowing the wounded puppet to be free.

"Tsk, little nuisances," Robert muttered, preparing for another fight.

Just then...

"Fire Worms." A woman’s voice reached his ears. A fire attack passed beneath him like fire worms writhing in the earth.

They immediately reached the puppets and lifted them off the ground, tying them like shoelaces tied to the earth, forcing them to remain still.

Robert looked behind him and a woman with a fire salamander greeted him. "They didn’t say we couldn’t form teams, did they?" Elizabeth joked.

Robert shrugged. "You’re right. Let’s get this over with quickly.".

.

The first group had formed, naturally attracting the attention of the elders.

"Smart." Shawn nodded. "Worthy of being among the strongest in the group."

Jacob laughed out loud. "And that way of using magic... Worthy of being the children of respected people."

"Especially that Robert. He was able to combine his extraordinary physical strength with a fireball. He’s already reached Phase 4 in this magic." said Enzo, recognizing greatness.

"Indeed." Shawn, an expert in fire, nodded. "This may be his only magic so far, but reaching the ’Personalization’ stage in such a short time proves his greatness. His value has increased."

Jacob, Enzo, and the other elders couldn’t agree more...

"That boy doesn’t intend to bring out his summons," said Jacob, looking at a corner of the battlefield where a lone young man—Edward—was fighting two puppets at once.

"But his strength... Isn’t it more than imagined?" Enzo glanced sideways at Jacob. "Have you misjudged him, Elder Jacob?" he joked.

Jacob frowned slightly before snorting. "It’s not for nothing that he has four summoned beasts. Even if they are low level, if he is lucky enough to have them all grant him the same stat, he will naturally have initial strength."

But his growth... All of them shook his head.

Shawn, on the other hand, found something curious. "The one who gave him 2-star student status knew what he was doing. Who was it?"

Jacob and Enzo frowned; they didn’t know.

Someone else answered. "It was Owen."

The three of them turned to look at him. "Really?" they asked in unison.

"Yes."

Finally, Jacob had to remain silent.

.

Edward wasn’t having a difficult battle; honestly, it was quite easy.

’They’re tough, but easy to dodge.’ He understood easily.

That’s why he fought two at a time, and in less than 10 minutes, the heads of the two puppets were rolling on the ground, and they couldn’t attack again.

The same thing happened to the third puppet, although in less time.

He looked at the third decapitated puppet and moved on to find his new opponent, who was nearby... but suddenly lost his concentration.

A beam of white energy shot out from the mother stone and struck Edward’s body with precision.

Then...

The puppets stopped sensing him. He knew immediately because the fourth puppet ignored him, passing by him to fight the one behind him.

"What?" He furrowed his brow and looked around.

There were two others with that energy surrounding their bodies, both standing just like him, wondering exactly the same thing.

Robert and Elizabeth.

"You have already passed this test." Suddenly, a voice sounded in his head.

’The principal?’ Edward looked up and stared at the sky, where the principal was staring back at them, remaining impassive.

"You just have to wait." The voice sounded again.

Edward, Robert, and Elizabeth, still confused, nodded.

None of them had any idea how to pass the test before, but something wasn’t right.

’He said this test, right?’ Edward frowned and looked around.

Sifting through the principal’s explanations, he understood there was one more test. His mind remained alert and he fixed his gaze on his surroundings.

Boom!

A soft sound beside him alarmed him, causing him to turn abruptly toward the spot... The man behind Edward fell to the ground with his head down.

The puppet was about to strike him one last time, but its claws stopped before it could do so.

Edward stared at this event... something was wrong.
