I Level Up Dragons with My Evolution System-Chapter 43: The Night of the Stars (3)
Everyone’s attention turned to the students—the stars of the night.
"The process for discovering your Talent is the same one used to determine your potential when you became Beast Masters," recalled the academy principal. "You will come one by one and place your hand on the Mother Stone. It will reveal your talent to you."
The students felt a slight pressure on their shoulders; some knees buckled.
This day was as important as the day of awakening.
Obtaining a worthless talent would mean being the laughing stock of the Beast Masters. The opposite of that... would mean rising above all their peers.
The line of 100 students formed, and the principal proceeded to usher them through.
The first one stepped forward.
Sweat dripped from his face, but his steps were steady.
He placed his hand on the Mother Stone, and the semi-transparent energy that emanated from it enveloped him.
Moments later.
[Latent Magical Talent: Song of the Wind Bird.]
| Magical Affinity: Wind.
| Acquired Magical Group: Manifestation.
| Potential: Medium.
[Specialist in ranged attacks.]
[]
"Manifestation Group and Medium Potential, huh." The principal jotted down a few things in his notebook before looking at the student. "Well done. Step aside and wait for your classmates to finish."
The student’s eyes sparkled.
He had obtained a Manifestation Group Talent!
Inside him, an additional current began to flow. It was the energy running through his veins, telling him that he could manifest it outside his body. He would still have to learn magic, but that energy already showed him the way.
His potential was impressive.
"Yes, principal!" He ran to the side and sat down in one of the chairs. He had become a star starting today, and his racing heart was proof of that, but there was still more to come.
.
The next student tried. His eyes darted between the mother stone and his hand, eager to discover his talent...
.
The Night of the Stars continued under the curious gaze of strong people waiting for the Mother Stone’s verdict.
Naturally, they all had magical talent.
But not all of them had growth potential.
Of 30 students, only three had average potential. The rest had low or very low potential.
The students continued to pass, one after another, until it was the turn of the last batch of 10.
The first of those 10 to be tested was Robert Morris.
His presence was felt from the first step, advancing at a slow and controlled pace. The observers held their breath as he placed his hand on the Mother Stone.
The peculiar energy studied him.
Something different happened.
His summoned beast, The Crimson-Eyed Maned Lion, appeared behind him.
ROOOARR!
The lion made its presence felt, as if the predator were hunting its prey.
Several students backed away without realizing it. One accidentally allowed his summoned beast to appear.
Edward clenched his fists without losing his composure.
And the results came out instantly.
[Latent Magical Talent: Throne of Fiery Dominion.]
| Magical Affinity: Fire.
| Acquired Magical Group: Manifestation.
| Potential: Very High.
[Versatile Specialist. Combines ranged attacks with off-body enhancement magic.]
[]
Even the principal stuttered as he spoke.
"Versatile Manifestation Group..." He lost his composure for a brief moment before returning to his usual self. "Exceptional potential, impressive, boy."
The principal laughed heartily and wrote down the results. "I expect great things from you."
Robert bowed slightly with a smile. "Thank you, director. I’ll do my best." 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
As he stepped off the stage, he took the opportunity to glance sideways at Edward.
It was just a fleeting glance, but Edward felt as if he were holding a ball of fire against his bare back.
’This is someone with a beast that has already undergone advanced evolution from the start...’ His breathing quickened.
It was dangerous.
Very dangerous.
Edward gritted his teeth and tried to calm his heart.
On the Elders’ balcony, Shawn, Enzo, and Jacob looked at each other.
"This kid is amazing," Shawn said.
Enzo nodded. "Now I understand why he had such a drastic change. We must cultivate him well."
"Yes," Jacob agreed. "It looks like the leader of the Student Council is going to change soon."
.
The members of the Student Council paid special attention to this moment.
"Charles," Myles whispered.
"Yes?" Charles replied.
"Bring him into our group."
"No matter the cost?"
"No matter the cost."
Myles’s answer was plain, making Charles smile slightly.
"Very well," he replied, glancing sideways at the other members of the Council. "But I fear it will be difficult."
Many were interested in bringing him into their groups. He was too good a seed to be cultivated with care.
.
In this way, seven students had their moment. Some were happy, others were downcast.
Now there were only three left.
Edward opened his eyes and looked at the mother stone when he realized it was his turn.
He was very interested in knowing what his Magical Talent would be, now that he had affinity with all the elements, but he was nervous like everyone else.
When someone has a very powerful Latent Magical Talent, their body changes accordingly before awakening it. Robert is clear proof of this. And Edward hasn’t changed at all, beyond the change given by the level up of his Caterpillars.
Robert, on the other hand, grew several inches taller and became muscular without even exercising. His aura commanded respect, and even his personality was affected. These changes explain the amazing talent that awakened in him.
Edward had none of that. He only had hope, once again.
He walked at a steady pace. In seconds, he arrived in front of the Mother Stone and placed his hand on it.
The movement of energy inside him stopped for a brief moment to allow the energy of the Mother Stone to enter.
That new energy rummaged inside him until it finished its task and left his body.
The results were transcribed on the rock.
[Latent Magical Talent: Fractured Core.]
| Magical Affinity: All elements.
| Acquired Magical Group: Unknown / Incomplete.
| Potential: Unknown / Defective / Incomplete.
[Magical Network Fractured into independent nodes.]
[]
Once again, the director froze.
This time, it wasn’t for a good reason.
He shook his head and looked closer, thinking he had misread it. But his mind went blank when he realized he hadn’t misread it.
’Fractured Core... total elemental affinity, but no magic group, with defective potential and...’ The director couldn’t finish his mental verdict because he didn’t understand how ambiguous the final explanation was.
But he was the director. He knew what to do.
He wrote in his notebook again and put down the words:
Magic Affinity: All.
Possible Anomaly Group.
Ambiguous Name.
Potential: Flawed.
Detailed Explanation: Very ambiguous, difficult to understand.
With that, the director looked back at Edward. "Return to your place," he said before calling the next one.
