Chapter 41: The Night of the Stars (1)

Brown, the student on the other side, didn’t even turn around to look, but sneered. "As usual, that trash Lux is pissing off the teachers."

With a grunt, he turned around to insult him face-to-face, but then his jaw dropped.

The other one who had arrived didn’t think much of Edward, so he was genuinely surprised that there was a 2-star student among them. But Brown and the professor knew very well who he was.

The professor frowned. "That uniform... Where did you get it?" he asked, puzzled. "I remind you that wearing star uniforms that do not belong to you is a crime punishable by academy law."

Despite his words, his tone had softened.

Finally, Brown understood. "Did you steal the uniform from one of the students, Lux?" He was genuinely surprised.

And steal the uniform of a 2-star student? Was he crazy?

Edward rolled his eyes at these two. He didn’t know who was worse. The professor for saying such nonsense, or the other idiot for believing that a question was a statement.

"Where did I get it, you say?" Edward shook his head. "I thought professors knew the academic rules."

The professor frowned and looked at him, he felt a little annoyed by his response. But he was a 2-star student, at least he wore the uniform. And he was just a third-rate professor, if it weren’t for his connections, he would be teaching at the Outer Academy and not here.

He couldn’t insult someone who had achieved this in... a month?

’If you don’t know anything about someone, don’t insult him.’ He remembered the advice of his uncle, a high-level professor, and decided to take it this time.

"I apologize," he said, making a wise decision. "I said something stupid. We still have one more person to go."

This time, the tone of voice was respectful, although a hint of dissatisfaction could still be detected, but it left Edward satisfied.

Brown, on the other hand, remained at a loss as to what the hell was going on. He still seemed to believe that Edward had stolen the uniform.

They didn’t have to wait too long. The fourth student arrived, also a 1-star student.

These types of students usually get stars at the beginning, thanks to their powerful summons. The thing is, Edward saw people here that he didn’t know; they couldn’t be new students... unless they came from other recruitment locations.

They were taken to the Star Talent Hall, the same place where the ceremony for the newbies had been held the day before.

Upon arriving here, Edward understood that the Academy was not the only recruitment site for this place; there were 100 students waiting for their moment.

100 new students!

They were scattered in groups. Some were looking to make friends, others to make contacts... Most simply surrounded the group of celebrities.

Among the familiar faces, there was one man who stood out above everyone else in the room.

He stood in the center, surrounded by 30 students, as if they were in a circle of worship toward a god.

Robert Morris, the talented son of the Morris family.

As soon as he entered the room, he couldn’t help but look at him, since he was standing in the middle of it.

’Did this guy grow?’ Edward looked at him in shock.

They used to be the same height. But Edward’s 1.85 metters were completely surpassed by his new stature. He seemed to be 5 or even 7 inches taller.

His arms, despite being hidden under an elegant shirt and noble suit, stood out visibly. He had become muscular, and that denoted a strange grandeur.

Even though he was surrounded by 30 people, that strange grandeur and distinctive aura made him stand out. He was not afraid to remain hidden even if the 30 were powerful beast masters.

The moment he saw him, Robert noticed his gaze and turned to look at him. He frowned briefly, though he quickly returned to his natural impassive face.

He pushed his way through the crowd and walked toward Edward.

"I was anxious thinking that our talented swordsman would be left out of this ceremony," Robert said as he reached him and held out his hand. "I’m glad to see you’re here."

Edward stared at him. ’What the hell is this guy up to now?’ he thought.

Even so, he had manners. He had been taught not to leave someone with their hand outstretched, so he raised his hand and shook it, though he did not utter a word and maintained perfect posture.

’He’s strong,’ Edward thought, looking at his hand in this guy’s. ’Even his hands have grown.’

Robert withdrew his hand and patted him on the back. "Don’t worry. If you don’t awaken a good talent, you’ll still have that great talent of yours, right? You’ll have to work hard." With that, he went on his way.

Edward glanced at him sideways. It seemed like a compliment and even recognition, something unusual to see in this man, but in reality, it was passive mockery.

His more astute followers understood this clearly and couldn’t help but laugh.

A swordsman, haha.

He was only incredible against low-level beasts. When you realize that large beasts have skin as hard as the most powerful metals, you understand the value of magic and how useless a sword can be.

They understood: This man was Edward Lux.

Robert’s greatest rival when he was at the Outer Academy... well, rival?

After this, no one could ignore Edward, and the entire room easily found out who he was.

The surname Lux echoed among the murmurs of the curious and gossipy.

It was then that Edward understood Robert’s intentions: He wanted to isolate him.

And he succeeded.

Despite Robert’s supposed "recognition," which would normally attract the attention of those seeking connections, no one approached Edward. On the contrary, they moved as far away as possible and began to whisper about him and his misfortune.

But the attention would not remain on him forever.

High-level teachers and some elders began to arrive shortly after.

"Students." The academy director appeared in the middle of the room. "The Night of the Stars has arrived."

"The Mother Stone is ready. The guests are waiting. All that’s missing are the stars," he said, looking at each and every one of them.

They were the Stars. The adornment of the night.

The rest of the teachers, elders, and high-ranking guests were only there to watch them shine.

Although that was not said, it was written between the lines, and all the students understood it.

"Please follow me to the other side of the Mother Stone Gate," he said and opened a huge door on the other side of the room, entering it with the 100 students and some teachers behind him.
