I Level Up Dragons with My Evolution System-Chapter 37: Delivering the mission
Elder Owen quickly returned to the village medical center and left his men waiting outside before entering the room.
As soon as he entered, he looked at the doctor. "Wait outside," he said, before proceeding to sit down in the chair next to the bed.
The doctor left, closed the door, and only Edward and Owen remained, staring at each other.
"Well?" Elder Owen asked. "What do you have to say to me? You caused quite a mess out there."
Edward smiled sheepishly. "I have a couple of questions before we continue. I was wondering if you could answer them," he asked.
"As long as they’re not too strange, I’m sure I can answer them," Owen replied casually, not giving it much importance.
Then Edward got to the point.
"How many undead can there be in a single Cursed Land?" he asked.
Actually, he just wanted to know how many people had died in that place.
"Who knows?" Elder Owen shrugged. "It could be thousands."
Edward frowned. ’Either he doesn’t know, or it’s simply a confidential secret,’ he thought.
But saying that there could be thousands was perhaps a tacit approval of what he knew: if thousands die there, there could be thousands of undead. Although, it wouldn’t make much sense for everyone to become undead; there must be a rule.
But he was afraid to ask him about it; after all, they weren’t that close.
"When this Cursed Land appeared, did it have such weak undead? I had heard that the beasts of that Cursed Land were quite powerful... Is that true?"
"That’s right." Owen nodded. "Initially, a bunch of powerful undead came out, where the weakest were Death Knights in their early evolutions, like the boss," he replied.
"Then what happened?" Edward asked, confused. "They say it became a Defective Cursed Land, but is that the only reason why all the absurdly powerful undead from before became harmless bones?"
His question was pointed... it made Owen frown.
’As I expected. This kid is not normal,’ Owen thought.
He couldn’t answer that question. So he remained silent, shrugging his shoulders.
Edward smiled. ’There’s something here. Although he figured it out too quickly, too bad,’ he thought.
He decided not to reveal his thoughts and simply took it as Owen not knowing, to keep up appearances.
"I’ll stop asking stupid questions," he said, forcing a sharper smile, then pulled out an undead head and threw it on the floor. "It’s from the one in the woods. It almost cut off my head," he said.
"You only killed one?" Owen asked, curious.
Edward laughed and pulled out another head. "Since when did I go looking for the head of just one Wight?" he asked, shrugging, before pulling out the third.
Both fell to the ground at the same time.
"That last one was so dangerous that I almost died... more than once," he said, telling a half-truth.
The real danger was that the bastard was standing right above the Boss Room, and he had to get into a fight with that bastard.
But he didn’t need to say that. Even if he did, would they believe him?
A student who had just awakened, managing to kill a Death Knight? Even Robert Morris, a man whose summoned Lion had several evolutions, would have trouble or perhaps not even be able to do it.
Not to mention someone with four caterpillars whose usefulness is nil.
Still, what he had done was just as shocking, at least in Owen’s eyes.
’He managed to kill all three of them,’ he thought, in shock.
His mind processed the information fairly quickly and looked at him. "Did the undead go crazy after you killed these guys?" he asked.
"I have no idea when they went crazy," Edward replied. "I was fighting the last Wight when suddenly I saw a sea of undead heading towards me. I didn’t have many pills either, so it was a serious problem to run away."
Owen nodded.
’There’s something strange. The Death Knight must have died in the process, and he died in a peculiar way, to cause all those undead to go haywire like that,’ he thought.
He immediately thought of that man dressed in black who used teleportation to escape the General’s perception earlier. Someone capable of using teleportation magic and hiding so easily from a man as high-ranking as that General was someone impressive.
For him, killing a Death Knight was easy. But what was the intention?
If he was a member of the Varhat Empire, as he had concluded before, did he really intend for small undead to cause trouble for his men?
’Maybe he just wanted to wipe out the village,’ he thought, although he couldn’t find a reason for doing so, other than to attract attention.
Furthermore, the professor stationed here is no ordinary person. He is strong. As long as he has the assistance of a dozen guards and students, he should be able to handle those undead.
And a man capable of making such a drastic move must have known the strength of those he sought to attack...
Owen found that there were too many unanswered questions about what had happened here.
He ended up sighing internally.
"Killing three Wights with your strength is impressive. Especially since you haven’t trained in magic yet," Owen said.
Although with Edward’s talent, training in magic wouldn’t make much difference...
"I can only say that your sword technique is impeccable. You should train it more, maybe that’s the way for you to achieve success."
Edward nodded. "So?" he asked. He hadn’t passed this mission to get that answer.
"Currently, since you managed to kill three of these guys," he said, pointing to a head. "You should be classified as a 2-Star Student, even more so since you did it in such a short time."
Edward nodded. Just as he suspected...
"But," Owen interjected. "The Star Trials will be held in the new year, when classes start again. We’ll let the Star Trials give their verdict, but I’ll update this information to take into account your cunning, rather than your strength."
Those were the valuable points, in part. Although they weren’t all.
"On the other hand, I will recognize you as a 2-Star student for the time being, and 20 Summoner Regiments will be open for you to join as a full member. From the 11th to the 31st. If you want to join one of them, the resources you are given will increase significantly, but you cannot leave one once you are in."
The Summoner Regiments... this was what he wanted.
