Chapter 29: A Death Knight is truly dangerous

CLANK!

CLANK!

The clanging of swords echoed in this desolate place, while the crunching of dry bones made noise beneath their feet. Even so, neither of them stopped to respect the bones of the dead.

On the contrary, each of them emerged even more powerful as time went by. One literally, the other simply increasing his power each time.

Horizontal blows, vertical blows, thrusts to the shoulder, neck, chest, limbs...

Unlike the Wights, who had some visible flesh, this Death Knight was completely covered in black armor that looked like it was dripping blood, but was actually cursed energy, which slowly flooded the place where it stood.

Edward needed to end this fight as soon as possible; he had very little time left. He had no more pills, and the minutes were ticking away. Every minute spent here brought the scythe of death closer to his neck, literally.

Unfortunately, there was nothing he could do. His passive state was evident.

The Death Knight’s sword was extremely heavy and substantially enhanced its strength, so Edward’s arms went numb and shook with each blow.

He felt those blows in his bones, in his inner being.

The swords continued to clash, while Edward thought of countermeasures that failed in the face of this beast’s insight.

Their bodies soon separated after an intense battle, thanks to Edward seizing an opportunity to strike it in the abdomen, forcing it away.

Edward took that opportunity to take two more steps back, brought a hand to his abdomen, and looked at it.

He was wounded. That sword had pierced him through the side, and it didn’t feel good at all when it came out. It was as if several stakes were tearing through his flesh.

He didn’t hesitate to drink a potion; it wouldn’t do much against such a large wound, being of low-level, but at least it would help stop the bleeding.

Taking advantage of the distance, he tried to think of a way to kill it. His beasts continued to level up, but after reaching level 6, the difficulty of leveling up increased. It would need time to eat before leveling up again.

The others, on the other hand, were already at level 2 each. One was at level 3, but strangely, they were eating more slowly than normal.

Perhaps it was because of the heat.

Edward learned that the river flowing alongside him was not blood, but lava. He didn’t understand why it was that color, but the heat emanating from that place was not something blood could produce, so it had to be lava or something similar.

That’s why he could understand his caterpillars, but he would love it if they could hurry up. After all... he was facing a truly formidable bastard and needed help from those stats.

While he was immersed in those thoughts...

[Fire Caterpillar has risen to Level 7.]

[You have received +2 Strength. +1 Intelligence +1 Elemental Resistance.]

He smiled. Every time that elemental resistance increased, the heat inside him dissipated a little, allowing him to be here normally, now that he had such strong elemental resistance.

He gripped his sword.

"I guess I just have to keep buying time," he whispered. "Although time is the one thing I don’t have."

He immediately moved his sword forward, stopping it before him at a 45-degree angle to the side.

CLANK!

The Death Knight’s peculiar sword struck there. Thanks to the angle, the sword continued on its path, grazing Edward’s, and he was able to attack him more easily, seeking to weaken the area of his abdomen, where the core of this bastard was located.

The problem was that he had powerful armor there. He didn’t know how many blows it could withstand, but he had hit it before and hadn’t made a scratch.

The Death Knight looked at him with those red eyes. They were too close to each other; Edward could practically smell the foul odor from his horrible mouth.

The Death Knight threw a backward elbow strike, and Edward ducked, taking advantage of the opportunity to attack him twice more in the abdomen. But he had to jump to the side to dodge an attack coming from above, vertically.

BOOM!

The sword’s explosion, hitting the ground, shattered bones and scattered fire to the sides, forcing Edward to defend himself.

His body was soon thrown backward, struck by a piece of bone engulfed in flames.

"Hm?" Edward frowned when he noticed it and shook his sword to disperse the blow. He fell nimbly to the ground and felt intense steam behind him.

Looking back, he realized he was only a few feet away from that red river.

"Dangerous." He shuddered. Falling there would surely be deadly.

He looked ahead, knowing that danger was there too.

Then, his face turned pale, and he jumped to the side to dodge another bone, engulfed in flames. This bone flew through the air right where he had been a second before.

He was in shock. He looked at the Death Knight and up... his entire field of vision was covered by a huge number of bones floating like burning coals.

’What a troublesome ability.’ Edward quickly surveyed his surroundings and, without thinking twice, began to run.

Suddenly, a swarm of burning bones began to fall on him. Roaring as they passed, as if unleashing a gale of deadly dangers.

He ran in circles to throw them off and approached the Death Knight, who attacked him with a powerful frontal thrust.

CLANK!

He defended himself at just the right moment, but his body was thrown backwards, digging trenches in the ground.

The danger was not over.

The Death Knight, impassive as ever, took a great leap with the sole intention of falling on top of him. Its enormous sword suddenly glowed with an intense red hue, and the water from the river around them suddenly began to gather around it, surrounding it intensely with a crimson fire.

The color was intensely red, to the point of being frightening.

Edward was falling backwards, dragged by the force of the previous impact, so he had no alternative but to defend himself.

And if he did... behind the Death Knight stood the last burning bones.

Suddenly, the Death Knight seemed to smile as it began to fall with its sword in front of it. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

It was looking for a clean and deadly blow!
