Chapter 412: 412: Mutated Demon

After carefully examining the corpse, Song Jian led Wang Qi and the others to continue walking downwards.

Soon, as the group approached the underground vault, they encountered several more corpses. It seemed they were part of the same team as the one they had found earlier.

At the moment, a few blurry figures were feasting on these corpses, emitting a strong stench of blood that made Song Jian and his companions feel uneasy.

Perhaps it was the glowing orb overhead that disturbed the monsters while they were eating. One by one, their blood-red eyes stared at Song Jian and the others. These humanoid creatures, which resembled zombies, emitted low threatening growls and slowly crawled towards them.

As they got closer, Song Jian could finally see their faces and attributes clearly.

These were four-legged mutant zombies that looked like wild beasts. Perhaps it was because they had been in the dark for too long that their eyes had lost their original function and were now covered by a red membrane. Their eyes emitted a dark red light, similar to that of a devil’s gaze. Their noses had completely rotted away, leaving only two dark holes, and their lips had turned outwards, revealing the sharp fangs protruding from their mouths. These were glistening like blades and stained with bright red blood.

“Mutant Demon, Elite, Level 20, Vitality Points: 2000/2000, Attributes: Demonic Aura, Frenzy; Skills: Mad Slaughter.”

Ma Yu stood in front of everyone, glanced at the monsters, and couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise. “When we came here before, we didn’t encounter these monsters. They were just ordinary Level 20 mutant zombies. How did they turn into Level 20 elite mutant demons?”

“Elite monsters are a bit tricky. Do you think this place has become a dungeon too?” Tang Rong, who was still invisible, didn’t rush forward and whispered at the side.

“Let me test these monsters first and see how much stronger they are as elite monsters compared to before.” Holding up his Gauss sniper rifle, Wang Qi aimed at the monster closest to him and pulled the trigger.

Pu-

With a soft sound, the Gauss sniper rifle had almost no recoil. A silver light shot out from the muzzle in a flash, leaving a dazzling silver trail on everyone’s eyes that lingered for a long time.

The bullet was aimed at the head of the nearest mutant demon, but the demon seemed to sense the threat just as Wang Qi pulled the trigger, trying to dodge it to the left.

However, the bullet was too fast, like a beam of light piercing through the demon’s right shoulder as it moved.

A trace of black demonic energy flashed, causing the mutant demon’s entire right arm to be broken and fly off, with thick black energy oozing out from half of its body. A heart-wrenching scream of pain echoed in everyone’s ears, making them frown.

“Critical hit damage, 64.0 points!” Wang Qi calmly reported the damage figure.

“Amazing!” Tang Rong couldn’t help but exclaim. Wang Qi had never dealt such high damage before. Just like Tang Rong’s thief class, ranged physical classes once they get a good weapon, their damage output could be like night and day compared to before.

Pu—

With another soft sound, the Gauss sniper rifle’s attack speed was not as fast as a submachine gun or pistol, but it was still relatively quick among sniper rifles. Wang Qi didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger again, shooting a pale blue light towards the mutant demon.

Aow-

Realizing it couldn’t dodge the attack, the demon roared loudly, causing the slowly encroaching mutant demons to suddenly charge towards the group like arrows off a bowstring.

“Bring it on!” Ma Yu held a shield in one hand and a war hammer in the other. As he struck his shield with the hammer, he charged at the incoming monsters.

Boom!

Ma Yu collided heavily with the monsters, his sturdy body acting like a wall, preventing the mutant demons from moving forward. The demons were forced to step back helplessly.

Ma Yu swung his war hammer, violently smashing a mutant demon. With each hit, a faint black energy welled up from inside of the demon’s body, displaying damage figures of fifty or sixty points above its head.

“Ha ha, this is awesome!” With a powerful stomp of his right leg, Ma Yu unleashed his Battle Roar skill, releasing an invisible wave of energy from his body. All monsters touched by this energy went berserk and rushed towards him.

This was Ma Yu’s only taunting skill, which he couldn’t dare use in places swarming with monsters previously. However, now he no longer had any worries. He was confident he could withstand any number of monsters’ charge. Tang Rong’s figure slowly emerged from behind a mutant demon, his dagger in hand. Like a wild beast’s fang, he aimed it at the back of the monster’s head.

Song Jian swung his long sword as well, unleashing a Light Strike that instantly sent a mutant demon flying. A massive 1,100 points of damage floated above the demon’s head, causing everyone to be stunned.

“Over a thousand, is he still human?” Tang Rong couldn’t help but mutter softly.

Sword Silk!

Swish-

Three sharp silver lines appeared out of thin air, aiming at the mutant demons around Song Jian.

Broken Wing Dance!

Sweeping Sword Style!

One sword technique after another was used, and the hatred of the mutant demons gradually shifted to Song Jian. Their deformed claws constantly swiped at him, but a faint gray energy surrounding Song Jian blocked the monsters’ attacks. They should have dealt over a hundred points of damage, but on Song Jian, not a single one exceeded thirty points.

This made the mutant demons even more agitated, their roars echoing through the underground and sending chills down people’s spines.

Twenty minutes later, the dozen mutant demons were all killed. Ma Yu laughed, sat down without minding the bloody mess, and panted heavily.

Although Song Jian had drawn the attention of half of the monsters, Ma Yu still had to withstand the assault of six or seven of them. Fortunately, Zhou Qing gave him most of the healing, or else he might not have been able to last that long.

“Phew, that was refreshing. The experience these monsters give is really high!” Zhou Qing couldn’t help but exclaim. His level was already at 15 and 97%, about to reach the next level.

“Ha ha, I’m about to be Level 16 too.”

“So am 1. These are Level 20 elite monsters after all, and we’ve jumped five levels…”

Song Jian glanced at his own Experience Points, also almost ready to level up, and couldn’t help but smile.
