I Have a Modern Weapon Gacha System in the Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 32: The Briefing
At four o’clock in the afternoon, Adrian was overseeing the movements of the new personnel around the military base. He still couldn’t believe that he was the boss of this place and had them under his command with also them having unwavering loyalty to him.
While watching the scenery, Ryan approached him from behind.
"Sir," Ryan called, snapping Adrian out of his reverie. He turned around and faced him.
"Yes, what do you have for me?" Adrian politely asked.
"We have finished the briefing for the extraction of the survivors and our combat operatives in the Bayshore Residential Resort 1. As per your instruction earlier, you wanted to be briefed on how we will carry out the extraction. Please come with me."
Adrian nodded once.
"Go ahead."
Ryan led the way toward the command center building.
Adrian followed behind him as they crossed the concrete walkway. Several personnel moved past them, some carrying equipment cases while others walked briskly with tablets in their hands.
Two mechanics were working beneath a UH-60 Black Hawk parked near the apron while a fuel truck rolled slowly past them. In the distance, the rotors of a CH-47F Chinook were already being tested as the aircraft crew ran pre-flight checks.
Ryan pushed open the door to the command center.
Inside, the room was cooler and quieter compared to the busy activity outside. Rows of operators were still monitoring screens while drone feeds continued streaming across the wall displays.
Ryan walked past them and headed toward a smaller room at the end of the hallway.
"Planning room, sir."
He opened the door.
Inside was a briefing area with a large digital screen mounted on the wall and a long table in the center. A map of Metro Manila was already displayed on the screen.
Ryan tapped a control panel and the map zoomed toward Bayshore Residential Resort 1.
Adrian took a seat across the table.
Ryan stood near the screen like a proper operations officer beginning a briefing.
"We conducted a threat assessment and revised the extraction plan," Ryan began.
The display changed.
A flight route appeared stretching from Cesar Basa Air Base toward Metro Manila.
"Primary insertion platform will be a CH-47F Chinook," Ryan said.
Adrian raised an eyebrow slightly.
"Chinook?"
Ryan nodded. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"Yes sir. Based on the latest headcount, we have thirty-two personnel total to extract. That includes the survivors and our operators stationed in Bayshore."
The screen displayed numbers beside the building icon.
"A Black Hawk could do it in multiple rotations, but the Chinook allows us to extract everyone in a single lift."
Adrian nodded slowly.
"That makes sense."
Ryan pointed toward another icon on the map.
"Escort will be provided by an AH-64E Apache attack helicopter."
The display showed the Apache flying slightly behind the Chinook.
"Ingress route will follow the Manila Bay corridor to minimize exposure to dense urban areas," Ryan explained.
He continued speaking with the tone of someone used to military briefings.
"The Chinook will establish a rooftop landing on the target LZ while the Apache provides aerial overwatch. Egress will follow the same corridor back north to Cesar Basa."
Adrian blinked once.
Ryan kept talking.
"In the event of hostile contact, the Apache will engage while the Chinook maintains extraction timeline. If we encounter aerial threats such as the mutated avian variants previously reported, the Apache will handle suppression while we maintain egress velocity."
Adrian raised a hand.
"Ryan."
"Yes sir?"
Adrian leaned back slightly.
"I’m going to need you to speak normally."
Ryan paused.
"Sir?"
Adrian gestured toward the screen.
"I understood maybe half of that."
Jake, who had quietly entered the room midway through the briefing, let out a short chuckle.
Ryan cleared his throat.
"Right."
He tapped the screen again and simplified the display.
"Okay. Simple version."
He pointed to the Chinook icon.
"We take one Chinook helicopter to Bayshore."
Then he pointed to the Apache.
"This Apache flies with us to shoot down anything dangerous. Especially those mutated zombie birds we encountered before."
Adrian nodded.
"That part I understand."
Ryan continued.
"The Chinook lands on the rooftop. We load everyone—survivors and our men—then we fly straight back here."
Jake crossed his arms.
"Fast in, fast out."
Ryan nodded.
"Exactly."
Adrian looked at the map again.
"How long will the operation take?"
Ryan checked the display.
"Flight time to Manila is about thirty-five minutes. Loading everyone should take less than five minutes if the rooftop is secure."
Jake added,
"So in total, about an hour and a half round trip."
Adrian stood up from the chair.
"Good."
He looked at Ryan.
"When do we launch?"
Ryan glanced at the clock on the wall.
"Aircraft crews are already preparing the Chinook and Apache."
He looked back at Adrian.
"We can launch in twenty minutes."
"Who will lead the operation?" Adrian asked.
"That would be me sir," Ryan said.
Adrian looked at him for a moment before nodding.
"Alright," Adrian said. "Are Mason, Cole, and Ethan already informed about the extraction?"
Ryan nodded immediately.
"Yes sir."
He stepped toward the console and tapped a key. One of the wall monitors switched to a communications log.
"We contacted them through the long-range radio about ten minutes ago."
The screen showed the message exchange.
Jake leaned slightly closer to the monitor.
"They acknowledged?"
Ryan nodded.
"Mason confirmed the transmission. They’ve already started preparing the survivors."
Adrian folded his arms.
"What’s their status?"
Ryan glanced at the report.
"Ethan is currently on the rooftop maintaining overwatch. Cole is securing the stairwell access leading to the helipad. Mason is organizing the civilians and moving them toward the rooftop staging point."
Jake gave a small nod.
"Good. That’ll keep the loading process smooth."
Ryan continued.
"They’re expecting the Chinook. Once they hear the rotors they’ll move everyone onto the helipad."
"That’s good to hear. Well I will stay here and watch the operation from here in the command center. Good luck and I hope you return here safely."
"Sir, I’m so touched..." Ryan grinned.
"What the..." Adrian cringed. "Go now and do what you have to do."
