Chapter 16: Prelude to the Rescue Operation

In the bedroom.

Ryan closed the door behind him as he was the last one to enter. And once everything was secured, Adrian spoke.

"Based on the information. His daughter is located on the seventh floor of the Okada Hotel. The room number is 0731. It’s on the east side of the building and there’s usually not many people there as most patrons or goers are located mostly on the ground floor where there’s a mall and casino."

"So the ground floor is filled with zombies, that’s obvious," Ryan said. "How do you plan on approaching this sir...I meant, Adrian?"

"I know, this is the hardest part. We can’t go in via land as there are too many zombies there. According to Marco, who was also a frequent visitor of Okada, there are thousands of people coming there everyday. We’ll run out of ammunition before we get to clear the zombies out. Unless...we go from the air."

The operatives glanced at one another upon the mention of their method of insertion.

"How?" Ryan asked.

"Well apart from you guys, I also got an air asset from the gacha system. It’s two blackhawk helicopters, crews included. Okada has a helipad for its high-value clients so we can use it. That way we don’t have to deal with zombies on the ground. If there are zombies inside the building, I’m pretty sure it’ll be plenty."

"It’s a good plan," Ryan said as he propped up his chin with his hands. "But where will you summon the blackhawk? Does this building have a helipad as well?"

"I guess it could fit," Adrian guessed. "We’ll have to check the rooftop."

"I’ll come with you—" Ryan stopped himself. "Adrian."

Adrian nodded.

"Yeah. The rest of you stay here."

Mason leaned back against the wall. "We’ll hold."

Adrian looked at all of them one more time.

"No one talks about anything we discussed. Not to Marco. Not to his wife. We’re just planning routes. That’s it."

"Understood," Cole said quietly.

Adrian opened the bedroom door.

Ryan followed him out.

In the living room, they saw the couple sitting together in a sofa, clinging to one another.

"Everything okay?" Marco asked.

"Yeah," Adrian replied casually. "We’re going upstairs for a bit."

"Upstairs?" Marco frowned. "Where?"

"Rooftop."

"For what?"

Ryan kept his posture relaxed, hands resting near his vest like it was nothing unusual.

"Better view," Adrian said. "We need to see the layout from above. Entry points, possible blind spots. That kind of thing."

Marco crossed his arms. "You can’t see enough from the window?"

"Yes," Adrian replied.

"Okay, be careful, we don’t know if there are zombies in the upper floors."

"Thank you."

With that, the two left the unit and proceeded using an elevator.

Five minutes later, they arrived at the rooftop upon opening the door.

What they saw was an open space with a wide concrete surface stretching across the top of the tower. The roof was flat, bordered by a low reinforced parapet wall about chest height.

Water tanks sat clustered near one corner. Several metal ventilation shafts rose from the surface, humming faintly. Satellite dishes were mounted near the center, angled toward the skyline.

They were in one of the four towers of the complex.

From this height, the rest of Bayshore Residential Resort was clearly visible. Three other towers stood nearby, arranged around a central podium. Below them, a landscaped courtyard and driveway curved between the buildings. Beyond that—Entertainment City.

"Do you think the helicopter would fit here?"

Ryan walked toward the center of the rooftop and paced it out, counting under his breath. He stopped near the middle and looked up, checking for cables or overhead lines.

"It’ll fit but one helicopter only."

"Okay...I’ll just summon the second helicopter once we are in Okada," Adrian said. "Let’s go back. We found out what we needed to know."

Ryan gave the rooftop one last sweep before turning toward the stairwell door.

They stepped back inside and closed the metal door behind them.

"Well?" he asked.

Adrian stepped inside. Ryan followed.

"It’s clear," Adrian said. "Rooftop’s usable."

"For what exactly?" Marco pressed.

"You’ll see tomorrow. For now we are going to take a rest. My friends are tired of just heading towards here due to zombies. Tomorrow we will begin the operation."

"May I know how you are planning on getting there?" Marco asked.

"You’ll know tomorrow in the morning."
