I Have a Date with a Thousand-year-old Female Corpse-Chapter 43: Unauthorized Entrants, Death_1
Chapter 43: Chapter 43: Unauthorized Entrants, Death_1
"What kind of joke is this? We’ve come all the way from Yuhang, and you think we’re just going to give up because of one thing you say?"
Before Du Xishan could speak, a man in a suit with a handsome and fair complexion glared at you from behind him.
"A rookie who hasn’t even studied their major for three days, uttering such preposterous statements, laughable."
"They must have read too many tomb-robbing novels, turned a bit silly."
"These days, there are really too many pretentious kids."
As soon as you opened your mouth, the crowd around you began to aim their verbal cannons at you, bombarding you from all sides.
Du Xishan raised his hand, and everyone quieted down; he walked up to you and asked seriously, "Can you give me a reason?"
"Someone has tampered with this ancient tomb. If I’m not mistaken, the grave should roughly consist of five outer coffins and one inner coffin, forming a pentagonal burial," you said as you stretched out your hand to point in the direction of the five surrounding points, turning to Du Xishan. "You should have recognized the species of these five trees by now, right?"
Du Xishan nodded, "These five yin trees are all a thousand years old. Standing here in such an orderly fashion, indeed, it’s quite peculiar."
"But Professor Du, surely we’re not going to be scared off just by a few trees?" The suited Little White Face came over, he was half a head shorter than you, and he didn’t dare come too close, lest his own stature be dwarfed by yours.
After thinking for a moment, Du Xishan said to you, "You know that we were invited here and the paperwork from above has been approved; we can’t just call it off."
You shrugged your shoulders with an indifferent attitude, "Anyway, I’m just a secretary, not responsible for entering the tomb."
Du Xishan laughed and patted your shoulder, asking, "Since that’s the case, would you mind telling us where the entrance to the tomb is?"
You pointed towards the ancient peach tree not far away: "The entrance to the tomb should be right under that peach tree. To enter the burial chamber, we’d have to dig a hole at the base of the peach tree. However, that spot is the ’earth’s eye’ of the tomb; all the yin spirit energy within the burial is suppressed by this thousand-year-old peach tree. Once you open a hole at the base of the tree, that’s when the real fun begins."
"Pfft, alarmist nonsense. Instead of studying properly, you’re always consumed with these crooked practices," a middle-aged man of an age not far from Du Xishan’s walked over from the crowd.
"Oh, if it isn’t Professor Yang, what wind has blown you our way?"
The middle-aged man arrived with about a dozen professionals and stood on the other side of Du Xishan’s team. From the atmosphere at the scene, it was clear that these two didn’t get along.
"Tell me Professor Du, why are you and your big group just standing around here? Enjoying the scenery?"
Professor Yang’s words were spiked with thorns, and his face showed an unmistakeable hint of sarcasm.
But Du Xishan wasn’t angered and replied with a small smile to Professor Yang, "You’ve actually hit the nail on the head, we have indeed come for the scenery."
With that, Du Xishan winked at you and Gao Shu. Understanding his cue, you both stepped back a few paces, allowing Professor Yang and his team to come forward.
Du Xishan pointed to the deep hole dug by the villagers in front of him and said, "Professor Yang, this is the tomb entrance the villagers dug up. Today, we might as well consider ourselves observers. Come, let’s see how you work."
Professor Yang was a shrewd one; he gave Du Xishan a few more glances and sighed internally that since he had known Du Xishan, he had never come out on top. With this, he couldn’t help but feel uneasy.
Seeing Professor Yang hesitating too, Du Xishan couldn’t help but say with a smile, "Professor Yang, why aren’t you starting?"
"I..."
"Looks like our Professor Yang isn’t confident. Since that’s the case, if you don’t mind, please step aside and let us take over."
"No need!" Provoked by Du Xishan’s challenge, Professor Yang gestured with one hand, and immediately two young men stepped forward from behind him; after quietly conferring for a moment, they turned and had their team start setting up the equipment.
Your party consisted of twelve people, while Professor Yang’s team was a little larger, with eighteen people.
Unlike Du Xishan, Professor Yang relied more on advanced equipment, including the extremely rare molecular resonance imager found within the country.
Two people carried the molecular resonance imager to the front of the cave and then lowered a long conduit into it, also setting up other conduits around the burial chamber, making for quite a grand setup.
"Everyone find a place to rest for now; consider today an outdoor field trip," said Du Xishan with a grin, his face covered with stubble and his clothes casual. If you didn’t know any better, you might think he was just some photographer out for a walk, without a trace of the grandeur of a professor.
"Mu Yun, come here."
Du Xishan called you over as you were chatting leisurely with Gao Shu.
"Professor Du, what do you need?" you asked, promptly sitting beside Du Xishan.
He looked at you, smiled, and asked, "Are you confident?"
"Confident about what?"
You retorted with a question.
"Tsk, you little rascal!"
As Du Xishan raised his hand to hit someone, you hastily dodged and your initially jovial expression gradually turned serious. You said, in a deep voice, "Just from the terrain and the arrangement of the Five Elements, there’s definitely something off about this place. I advise you to have these so-called experts and professors evacuate first. We have no clue what’s below, and if we disrupt the balance underground, that will spell big trouble."
Looking at Professor Yang who appeared to be directing everyone in an orderly manner, Du Xishan said with a smile, "This Old Yang, you know, he grew up on foreign ink. Though a bit arrogant at times, he’s not foolish. He’s been in this business for over twenty years, not a rookie. Don’t worry, he won’t cause a huge mess."
With that, Du Xishan put an arm around your shoulder and continued, "What I mean is, can you find a way that doesn’t damage the tomb so we can take a few people down and have a look?"
Hearing this, the corner of your eye twitched involuntarily. You knew Du Xishan was up to no good and immediately shook your head fiercely, "I refuse, absolutely not! Are you kidding me? The peach tree on this grave is over a thousand years old. Whatever down there has probably turned into spirits. If they really are alive, I might end up spending my whole life here, and, brother, I’m still a virgin!"
Alright, you admit that the last sentence was the main point.
Du Xishan raised an eyebrow and sneakily pointed at Fan Yi, who was being attentively courted by two young men nearby, "What if this works out, and I arrange for Fan Yi to be your girlfriend? I’m telling you, Little Yi may look delicate, but she’s quite well-endowed in a few areas. She’s sure to bear you a big chubby boy in the future."
You gave the shameless old man a stare of disdain, "She’s not your daughter, why would she listen to you? Besides, if I go down there and lose my life, what would I need a girlfriend for?"
"You child, saying such pessimistic things." At this moment, Du Xishan was like an old procuress persuading a decent girl to sell herself in a brothel, glib-tongued and hitting right at the heart, "Look, let’s make a little verbal agreement. After we go into the tomb, aside from the relics, you are allowed to take one piece of any other gold, silver, or jewels."
Damn!
You turned your head and stared straight at Du Xishan. Was this old guy really a distinguished university professor?
But truth be told, you were indeed tempted!
"Two items," you immediately held up two fingers.
Du Xishan’s eyebrows went up, and he said with a smile, "Okay, two items it is!"
While you were speaking, a man’s exclamation suddenly came from the front, "Professor, we’ve found something!"
Just then, everyone’s gaze shifted to the LCD screen of the imaging device.
The LCD screen displayed a passage about half the height of a person. As the probe advanced, the figure of a person appeared on the screen.
"What... what is this?"
Just as Professor Yang began to speak, everyone saw fresh blood oozing out from the four edges of the LCD screen!
"Whose blood is this? Who is playing this prank?"
A man beside Professor Yang was about to touch the blood when you saw it and promptly shouted, "Don’t touch it!"
The man’s body stiffened and he turned his head to look at you in surprise.
"There’s something wrong with this blood!"
True to your words, the blood that had seeped out from the screen began to form a few large blood-red characters on the surface of the display, "Trespassers will die!"
Suddenly, the screen emitted black smoke, and with a "bang!" the monitor exploded, and Professor Yang’s equipment worth millions all started smoking.
You turned to look at Du Xishan and slapped his shoulder, "Lao Du, I advise you to give it up, there’s something really sinister down there." frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
"Hmph, what’s there to fear with you here?"
You’ve seen shameless, but never someone so thoroughly shameless!
"Hey, Lao Du, I only know a bit about the Yin Yang, not a Mount Mao Taoist!"
Du Xishan looked at you with a lewd smile. But there was a sparkle in his eyes that you couldn’t interpret, as if this old fox knew some secrets you were still unaware of.
"Don’t worry, your mother is like a Demi Immortal, and as her son, you can’t be that weak." With that, Du Xishan sneakily raised three fingers to you.
You held your forehead and sighed internally, "Once a person becomes desperate, their pride really doesn’t last."
The equipment had instantly turned into scrap metal, and the once high-and-mighty Professor Yang slunk away dejectedly; not only him, but even the leaders who came with you all took the first opportunity to disappear.
The mountain breeze blew, making everyone’s neck feel chilly and reflexively shrink.
"Professor Du, everyone else has left, shouldn’t we be leaving too?"
The suit-clad man who had been fawning over Fan Yi swallowed hard and seemed reluctant to face the dark, daunting cave.
Du Xishan paid no mind to him but turned to ask you, "Mu Yun, I’ve always found it strange, how do you think this hole formed? It looks like it could be a robbers’ tunnel."
"It’s not a robbers’ tunnel. Tomb robbers usually understand the concept of Yin Yang and the Five Elements. No insane person would dig a hole directly into the spot with the heaviest Yin energy, unless they have a death wish. If one wants to die, just find a tree, wrap a noose around their neck, a quick jump and it’s done. Why dig such a deep hole for that?"
