I Hate You, Devil!-Chapter 227 A demon residing inside her
Chapter 227 A demon residing inside her
Xiaolei felt like her heart was going to explode. Her eyes were wide with fear. Just seeing him standing there, her body wanted to run away to safety or find a weapon to protect herself with.
She suddenly felt hot and sweat started trickling down her back. Her fingers curled into tight fists, her nails digging into her palms. She was frightened. The ghost from her past, the scariest person from her nightmares, had come.
She would have never thought that this person would appear in her life again.
\"Yun Jinhan,\" he began introducing himself. \"I'm very pleased to meet you, CEO Luo.\"
He extended his hand for a handshake and Xiaolei forced herself to stand up. She felt her legs twitch as she fought the impulse to whirl around and run away.
Only god knew how many times she whispered to herself to calm down.
\"Nice to meet you, too,\" she managed to respond as she accepted his hand. She immediately pulled her hand away before it trembled.
\"Okay. Now that everyone is here, we should start the discussions.\" Mr. Ville said and everyone sat down. Xiaolei avoided looking at Yun Jinhan's face as she struggled firmly to overcome her emotions, especially her fears.
She refused to be allow her fear to take over just because he was here. This was a very important project for Yu Empire and she already signed the agreements. She couldn't escape this anymore and whether this project went well or not was her responsibility. She was the one who dove into this and it would be a lethal blow for the empire if she messed this up now. She realized she had no other choice.
Time ticked by and Xiaolei somehow managed to contain herself. It took her everything in her to shut her heart and overcome the fear in it.
And then, just like that, their deal was done. After they all signed another set of documents, Chairman Yu started to speak with interest to Yun Jinhan.
\"So you're the young CEO who took over the position of old Yun Zheng. I didn't know he was hiding such a brilliant grandson. That sly fox.\" The old man said and they both laughed.
Xiaolei, who remained indifferent and serious the entire time, didn't say anything as she listened to their conversation. In her past life, she met Yun Jinhan abroad. She knew that he was an illegitimate son of a wealthy family but he didn't choose to fight with his siblings for power. He instead chose to live with his grandparents and became an actor. When they first met, he was filming his breakthrough movie that would later send him to the top while Xiaolei was sent by her grandfather overseas for a business trip. She still wasn't a CEO at that time but she was already the chairman's personal assistant and a board member that owned the highest shares within Luo Corporation. She met him after she succeeded with her revenge and sent Mo Lifeng to the mental hospital. She finally remembered that it was during this time that she met Yun Jinhan.
And now that she thought about it, why did this man's course of life change? He was supposed to be an actor right now!
Xaiolei didn't know why but aside from her fear, she was feeling extremely uneasy. Since she returned back in time four years ago, the only thing that changed was her life and the life of the people she helped, like her eight babies as well as Little Ran and Rui. Everything that she didn't interfere with remained the same. So why did this man's life in this second life of hers change as well? The thought of it taunted her.
When they were finally ready to leave, Yun Jinhan smiled so gently at her. That kind and genuine smile of his was something she had long forgotten. He smiled like this when they first met, too. She didn't want to remember the past anymore but him appearing before her again brought every single buried memory back to life.
He wasn't the nation's boyfriend anymore; his flower boy image had changed. He now looked powerful but his eyes and his voice still sounded kind. He was the type of man every grandparent would love to marry to their grandchildren.
But the kindness in his eyes no longer soothed her, the longer she looked at it, the more she felt terrified.
\"Miss Luo?\" Yun Jinhan called out and Xiaolei snapped out of her daze. The old men were already far ahead of her. \"Are you alright?\"
Yun Jinhan moved closer to her, looking worried but his movement made Xiaolei subconsciously freaked out and stepped back.
Her reaction made Yun Jinhan frown but he still extended his hand to touch her. \"I think you're not well, Miss Luo. Let me help –\"
Before his hand could touch her, someone suddenly blocked him. Juu was the one who moved between them. He held Xiaolei's shoulder before slightly turning his head back towards Yun Jinhan.
\"Miss Luo has not been feeling well since this morning so I'm sorry but she needs to go back and rest first.\" Juu said and Yun Jinhan retracted his hand.
\"I see. I understand. Please have a rest, Miss Luo. See you again soon.\" He replied and Xiaolei just nodded, without raising her face again.
Once Yun Jinhan was gone, Xiaolei's knees and hands began to tremble as she clutched onto Juu's clothes. She felt like all the chains and shackles she forcefully wrapped around her body to keep her reaction at bay had collapsed all at once. The trembling and sweating she'd been restraining so hard finally took over. The image of him as he tried to kill her that night was flashing so freshly in her mind, sending trembles all over her body like it all just happened yesterday.
This fear, she realized, was a demon residing inside her for a long time now that his appearance had awakened and she knew she couldn't escape from it. She had to slay it because if she kept running away from it, it would chase her for the rest of her life, and would eventually destroy everything again. So she must not run again. She must face this head on and destroy it before it destroyed her and everything else she held dear.
