Chapter 1538: Chapter 365: The Old Sage Knocked on My Door at Midnight (Part 5)

"Thank you, everyone."

The old immortal did not refuse, accepted the pills, and after taking them, indeed felt much better, though the situation was still not optimistic and required a period of rest.

The loose cultivators departed.

In the room, there were only the grandfather, grandson, and Lin Fan.

"I wonder if you could tell me about your origins and why you seek immortals?"

The old man couldn’t figure it out, but hoped asking would simplify things if the other could disclose it.

"I’ve heard immortals are the strongest beings; I want to know if it’s possible to reverse time and return to the past," Lin Fan said.

"Return to the past... it sounds familiar, once there was an ancient existence who asked my ancestor the same thing."

"Who was he?" Lin Fan pursued.

The old man shook his head. "It was ages ago, his name is unknown to anyone, even I do not know."

"Old Immortal, do you know Earth?"

"I don’t know it, never heard of it."

"Then do you know the origins of Secret Realm?"

"I do not know."

"I come from the Secret Realm; it is my homeland where everyone lived in a beautiful world until disaster struck, using us as nourishment to advance cultivators in the Cultivation World. The so-called Secret Realm is formed at the expense of innocent people from another place."

Thinking about this, anger burned within Lin Fan.

The old man’s eyes were shocked, hearing this for the first time.

"Sorry, I was too full of hostility; I wasn’t like this before." Lin Fan noticed a change in his temperament and spoke.

"No harm done, anyone would feel the same."

"Old Immortal, since I entered the room, you’ve been observing me, and I’ve been observing you. You appear mortal but you’re not; I can acutely sense an aura within you, far beyond Core Formation or Nascent Soul stages."

Upon Lin Fan’s words, the old man’s face changed, and he stared intensely at Lin Fan, "Who are you really?"

"Old Immortal, please don’t worry. I’m not a bad person, my name is Lin Fan, from the Secret Realm. Everyone has their secrets, and I do not treat my origins as a secret. I know you come from elsewhere, although I don’t know exactly where, nor will I ask."

Lin Fan knew the old Immortal before him had secrets.

Core Formation, Nascent Soul, even higher cultivators cannot detect the difference in the old immortal, but Lin Fan’s perception was incredibly strong, his eyes could see into one’s heart.

The old man’s expression calmed as he gently stroked his grandson’s head to soothe his fears.

The room was quiet.

"Little friend, would you stay a few days?" the old man asked slowly.

"No, I must continue my search for traces of immortals," Lin Fan said.

The old man said, "You might search your whole life and never find them, but I happen to know a little bit, just stay for a few days, okay?"

"Please tell me the whereabouts of immortals, I would be extremely grateful." Lin Fan’s face was excited, he was searching for immortals, and with this clue, it felt like the bitterness was worth it, and hope was finally within reach.

"A few days here first, alright." The old immortal did not explain more, just hoped Lin Fan would stay.

"Alright."

Lin Fan could read books for years in the library, knowing about the Cultivation World, he wouldn’t mind a few days.

The old immortal rented two connected rooms with a courtyard, slightly more luxurious than the surrounding individual houses, one of which Lin Fan occupied.

At night.

Lin Fan sat by the bed, looking out at the night with insects calling outside, their chirping echoed.

"Soon, very soon."

From wandering aimlessly since arriving in the Immortal World, now having gained something, he felt everything was worthwhile.

In the neighboring room.

The old man looked fondly at his sleeping grandson, gently fanning with a fan, his face showing a benevolent smile.

If there hadn’t been that incident initially.

The grandson should be four hundred years old by now.

But none of that mattered, the important thing was the grandson was alive and here, that was enough.

"What kind of person is he really?"

The old man looked towards the direction where Lin Fan stayed, seemingly blocked by walls, but still couldn’t stop the old man’s probing thoughts.

A silent night.

The next day.

Cultivators outside the city came to the old immortal’s residence, wanting to inquire about their fortunes, but the old immortal suffered a backlash from divination the previous day and couldn’t divine for a while, which disappointed the visiting cultivators.

They had to leave in disappointment.

Inside, Lin Fan accompanied the old man and the child in having porridge.

"Little Lin, simple meals, don’t feel disdain," the old man said with a smile.

"No problem, I used to drink these too." Lin Fan lifted the bowl, took a sip, feeling the rice here tasted different than what he used to drink, more fragrant and uplifting, unconsciously drinking more, finding the taste delightful.

The old man saw Lin Fan’s enjoyment and smiled also.

On the third night.

The old man walked to Lin Fan’s door, raised his hand and knocked.

"Little Lin, are you asleep?"

Lin Fan opened the door.

"Old Immortal, is there anything?"

"I wish to talk with you."

"Please come in."
