Chapter 58: Chapter 58 – Evolution and Reagent

DING! [EVOLUTION REQUIREMENT FULFILLED][UNLOCKING RANK 4 EVOLUTION OPTIONS...]

In her dimly lit private room, Sylvia stared at the glowing blue screen that appeared the moment she completed the final requirement for her evolution. Her breathing was calm, but her crimson eyes sparkled with anticipation and curiosity.

This time, the system didn’t present her with a linear path—Instead, four surprising and vastly different choices appeared before her.

Rank 4 Evolution Options:

➤ Morteluna – Special Elite Zombie➤ STR & VIT x2, INT & AGI x5➤ New Element: Random➤ New Skill: Random

➤ Yierghol – Elite Ghoul➤ STR & VIT x5, AGI x2➤ New Element: Random➤ New Skill: Random

➤ Baron – Noble Vampire➤ STR & VIT x2, INT & AGI x5➤ New Element: Random➤ New Skill: Random

➤ Echo Remnant – Unique Spirit➤ INT & AGI x10➤ New Element: Random➤ New Skill: Random➤ [Physical body will be lost]

"Whoa..." Sylvia murmured softly, her eyes widening at the list."So many interesting ones... and some pretty extreme. A unique spirit?"

Driven by curiosity, her fingers hovered over the last option.

[Warning: Evolving into Echo Remnant will completely erase your physical body. You will become a spiritual entity that can only interact through certain mediums.]

"Hm... figures there’s no STR or VIT bonus," she mumbled, slightly disappointed."I’m not ready to become a wandering ghost just yet."

Next, she opened the details for Yierghol.

"Insane STR and VIT... but way too slow. Not my style." Her brows furrowed."And this one... a vampire?"

She quickly scanned the Baron description.

"Looks cool. Noble and powerful, but... sunlight?" She sighed."Too many limitations."

Finally, her gaze returned to the first choice—Morteluna.

"I started as a zombie. I’ll continue as a zombie. This is my path."

She pressed the [Confirm] button without hesitation.

[CONFIRMATION PROCESSED][INITIATING RANK 4 EVOLUTION PROCESS...]

Zzzhhrrrr...

Sylvia’s body collapsed onto the bed, completely unconscious. A dense black aura seeped from her, blanketing the villa like a pulsating fog of darkness.

Outside the window, pure energy spread out across the land. The zombies stationed nearby immediately dropped to their knees, their bodies trembling under the immense pressure—The pressure of their Queen once again transcending the limits of her existence.

The Next Morning – At Sofia’s Base

Golden rays of sunlight filtered through the bedroom curtains, gently illuminating the room. Sofia lay sound asleep on her bed, utterly drained from yesterday’s battle. Her breathing was steady, though her tousled hair hinted at just how deeply she had slept.

Meanwhile, Viktor had been up since dawn. His lab table was cluttered with reagent tubes, experiment notes, and a few remaining red crystals. A small satisfied smile crossed his face as he inspected the reddish-clear liquid in a vial—his final product.

"Cleaner than the zombie crystal reagent..." he muttered, jotting down results."He scribbled another note:

Addendum: Reagent has diminishing effectiveness after the fourth dose per subject. However, each crystal type produces reagents with different EXP yields. This finding... is significant.

With a look of enthusiasm, Viktor organized the documents and walked toward Sofia’s room. Upon arriving, he knocked lightly.

Knock, knock.

Sofia stirred slowly, blinking her eyes halfway open. Still covered by a blanket, she instinctively got up and walked to the door—unaware that the towel she’d used the night before had fallen off somewhere during her sleep.

Her hand had already touched the doorknob when—

"Wait—crap! That was close!" she exclaimed, suddenly realizing her state. "Hold on! I’m getting dressed!"

Outside, Viktor calmly sat on a chair near the door, flipping through his files. He was used to his team’s chaotic biological clocks.

A few minutes later, the door opened. Sofia emerged wearing simple clothes: black shorts and a loose white hoodie. Her hair was still damp, but her eyes were sharp and focused.

"This is the final report on the reagents," Viktor said curtly, handing her a folder thick with experimental data. "I need to get back. There’s still a lot of work to do."

Sofia accepted the documents with a nod and sat near the window to read. It didn’t take long before a slight smile appeared on her lips.

"So this is the result..."

Reagent Exp:

Red Zombie Crystal: 3-5 Level (depends on purity)

Red Kobold Crystal: 5 Level

Red Orc Crystal: 6 Level

Each type yields different EXP effects. That means they can be used for targeted training or troop enhancement.

She began scribbling in her personal notes.

Initial Barter Pricing Proposal:

Zombie Reagent: 100 Points

Kobold Reagent: 120 Points

Orc Reagent: 150 Points

With higher supply and more efficient production, this base could grow rapidly.

Sofia closed the folder and leaned back in her chair, eyes gazing out the window at the clear blue sky.

"At least... one thing is going according to plan."

After reading Viktor’s final report, Sofia didn’t stay idle.

Still wearing her casual outfit, she made her way to the lab section of the base—now partially converted into a small reagent processing center. Viktor was busy sorting vials into labeled trays when Sofia entered.

Without a word, he handed her a wooden crate filled with sealed vials glowing in shades of red. Each vial was numbered, labeled with the crystal type and potency. Sofia inspected a few of them with her sharp gaze before nodding in approval.

"These’ll go to the base store," she said.

Viktor merely grunted in agreement, already returning to his calculations.

Sofia carried the crate to the central building of the base—a large converted hall that now served multiple functions. The front section was the Trading Post, or as most of the survivors called it, the "Point Exchange Hub."

Inside, survivors moved about in an organized flow. A large board displayed item prices and available jobs. Rows of shelves and metal lockers stood along the walls, containing the essentials for survival and combat.

Sofia stepped behind the counter and began placing the reagent vials into a secured glass cabinet marked [Combat Enhancers – Reagent Class].

Once done, she checked the rest of the inventory.

Available Supplies:

Food & Rations: Dried meat, canned goods, instant noodles

Water & Drinks: Bottled water, electrolyte packs

Weapons: Knives, handguns, rifles, melee weapons

Armor & Gear: Tactical vests, gloves, boots

Zombie Reagent: 100 SP (100)

Kobolt Reagent: 120 SP (100)

But it wasn’t a one-way system. Survivors could also sell what they found or crafted—raw meat, materials, weapons, or even monster parts could be exchanged for points.

To keep the economy stable, a bulletin board listed available Jobs that could earn points. Each task had a difficulty rating and corresponding reward.

Available Job Types:

Hunter (Combat): Hunt Mutant or Zombie and bring back materials, cores or Logistics

Farmer (Support): Grow vegetables and manage livestock

Scout (Recon): Survey nearby zones and mark safe paths

Technician (Crafting): Repair weapons and armor, craft gear

Medic (Support): Heal wounded members, manage first aid

Trader (Logistics): Escort goods and manage supply routes

Sofia glanced at the updated job list, noting several names already signed up under various roles. The community was adapting. Surviving was no longer just about fighting—it was about building something sustainable.

She took a clipboard and jotted a few more adjustments to the pricing table. Afterward, she stepped out of the building and looked at the training field in the distance, where several new recruits were sparring.

"...We might just make it through this," she whispered.
