I Got Reincarnated as a Zombie Girl-Chapter 361 - 357 – Breach in the West
While Noir’s roar still echoed faintly in the ashen sky and screams from the south along with plasma explosions from the east could still be heard like distant reverberations, the western front of Nocture quietly opened its own maw.
The battlefield here was different.
Not a flat dead plain, not the concrete ruins of old Earth.
This was the zone of breaches where the old world and the fused world overlapped and intertwined. The air rippled like heated water. Dead trees would suddenly turn into transparent crystal, then revert to rotten wood in the blink of an eye. The cracked ground formed bottomless black fissures, and occasionally the wind carried whispers from another dimension, the laughter of a small child, or screams that never stopped.
Celes stood at the edge of one such fissure, her long silver-purple sword hanging casually at her right side. Her silver hair fluttered gently, her purple eyes half-closed, as if she were simply enjoying a pleasant evening breeze. Behind her, the zombie troops from another world stood in formations that never stayed the same for more than two seconds.
In front of her, the enemy forces from a different fused world began to appear. Thousands of beings blessed with light radiant elves with holy arrows, mutant humans with wings of light, and strange creatures whose bodies were made of living crystal. They moved hesitantly, nauseated by the terrain. Some were already vomiting after witnessing a tree suddenly transform into living flesh before turning back into stone.
Celes gave a faint smile.
"Welcome to my home," she murmured softly.
A radiant elf at the front line raised his bow, the arrow glowing bright white.
"Holy Light Arrow fire!"
SWOOSH!
Ten arrows shot out simultaneously, leaving trails of light like comets.
Celes lifted her sword with one hand in a lazy motion.
"First Slash."
The sword moved slowly, almost as if cutting ordinary air.
CRACK!
The space in front of her shattered like glass. The ten arrows suddenly veered sharply, as though they had collided with an invisible wall, then vanished into a newly opened dimensional fissure.
The radiant elf’s eyes widened. "What "
Celes took one step forward.
"Second Slash."
Her sword swung horizontally, blindingly fast.
SHRRRRRRRRRIP!
A thin black line appeared in the air, slicing through space itself. The line shot forward covering ten meters in an instant and cut through the bodies of three radiant elves at once. It didn’t cut flesh. It severed their very existence. Their bodies split into two parts no longer connected to this world, then disappeared into the newly opened spatial rift, leaving only droplets of blood floating in the air before falling to the ground.
Screams erupted.
"MONSTER! SHE’S CUTTING SPACE!"
Celes laughed softly, her voice sweet as always. "It’s only the second slash and you’re already panicking?"
The otherworldly zombies behind her began to move. Six-armed creatures leaped forward, their hands wielding swords, spears, and claws all at once. They attacked like a storm of flesh and metal.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
Swords met swords. Holy light clashed with darkness. A crystalline enemy creature tried to stab a six-armed zombie, but the zombie’s sixth hand caught the crystal blade, twisted it, then tore the owner apart from the inside.
CRACK! SPLAT!
Crystal shattered, blue blood sprayed.
Celes walked through the chaos as if strolling in a garden. Her sword kept moving not quickly, but precisely.
"Third Slash."
She swung downward.
VVRRRRRRR!
The space beneath her feet trembled. A horizontal fissure opened directly under the enemy formation. Twenty creatures fell in at once, their bodies severed at the waist as the fissure closed again.
"AAAAAARGH!"
Their screams cut off abruptly, as if the sound itself had been swallowed by the space.
A winged knight of light dove from above, his sword blazing like a miniature sun.
"Die, you space witch!"
Celes looked up and smiled.
She raised her sword skyward, tip pointing to the heavens.
"Vertical Slash."
CRACK!
The space above her split vertically. The knight was trapped between two closing spatial walls. His body was crushed, wings snapped, bones pulverized before he could even scream. Then the fissure shut.
CRUNCH!
Only blood splatter remained in the air.
Celes exhaled softly, almost bored.
"Does anyone else want to play?"
The enemies began to retreat, but it was too late. The otherworldly zombies had already flanked them from the sides, their bizarre bodies shifting with the dimensional breaches, some vanishing briefly, reappearing behind enemies, then tearing them apart from behind.
RIP! RIP! RIP!
Blood sprayed like rain.
Celes advanced deeper into the battlefield. Her sword continued its dance spatial slash after spatial slash. Every swing opened small rifts that devoured enemies, severed limbs from afar, or redirected attacks back to their owners.
An enemy mage attempted a massive light spell, a gigantic glowing orb of radiance.
"HOLY EXPLOSION!"
BOOOOOOM!
A blast of light surged toward Celes.
Celes merely raised her sword in front of her, the tip touching the orb.
"Boundary Slash."
CRACK!
The space around the orb fractured into an invisible cube. The sphere was trapped inside, then the fissure closed, swallowing the explosion into another dimension. Only a warm breeze remained.
The enemy mage’s eyes widened in shock. "That’s... impossible..."
Celes was already standing before him. Her sword gently touched his throat.
"Here, nothing is impossible," she whispered sweetly. "Only the dead and the not-yet-dead."
SCHLICK!
The mage’s head separated.
Celes stepped past the falling body, blood flowing over her boots but leaving no trace. She gazed at the rippling western sky caused by the dimensional breaches, then glanced toward the still-peaceful castle in the distance.
"You still don’t need to come down, Queen," she murmured with a small smile. "I’m still enjoying myself here."
Then she raised her sword once more.
"Fifth Slash."
CRACK! SHRRRRRIP!
Space tore open again, and the remaining enemy ranks vanished one by one into endless darkness.
Celes paused for a moment in the center of the now-altered battlefield. The dimensional fissures around her began to widen further several cracks forming living black spider-web patterns, swallowing fallen corpses and weapons. The air vibrated like heat waves over fire, yet pierced the bones with cold. The smell of blood mixed with scorched metal and something stranger ozone from open rifts, like lightning that never truly struck.
The surviving enemy forces formed their final defensive formation. A radiant elf commander in white crystal armor raised his hand, his voice amplified through a strengthening spell.
"Fortress of Light rise!"
WHOOOOOOSH!
Holy light formed a gigantic dome over their ranks, a transparent glowing wall that reflected all attacks. The radiant elves inside raised their bows, arrows shining like tiny stars.
"Penetrating Arrows fire!"
SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!
Hundreds of light arrows launched at once, leaving blinding trails.
Celes exhaled softly, almost yawning.
This time she raised her sword with both hands, tip pointed forward.
"Spatial Boundary Slash."
The sword swung slowly, but the surrounding space changed dramatically.
CRRRRRRRACK!
A thin black line appeared before her blade, then expanded into an invisible vertical wall. The light arrows struck it not ricocheting, not shattering they vanished. One by one, the arrows were sucked into the fissure, as if space itself devoured them alive. The supposedly invincible holy light merely flickered before disappearing without a trace.
The elf commander’s eyes widened. "What are you doing?!"
Celes smiled sweetly, almost flirtatiously. "I’m just moving your toys somewhere... quieter."
She took one more step forward.
"Spiral Slash."
Her sword spun in the air like a wheel of death.
VRRRRRRRRR!
The space around the light dome began to rotate like a whirlpool. Small fissures opened across the dome’s surface like cracks in living glass. Each crack pulled a portion of the light wall into another dimension. The dome trembled, cracks spreading like a spider web.
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!
The elves inside screamed in panic. Some tried to leap out, but small fissures caught their legs dragging their bodies into the darkness.
"NO AAAAARGH!"
Bodies were severed mid-leap, half inside the rift, half still in this world. Blood flowed into the fissures before vanishing.
The light dome finally collapsed.
BOOOOM!
The pent-up holy light explosion burst outward in all directions, but Celes simply raised her sword once more.
"Absorption Slash."
SHHHHHRRRRR!
A massive fissure opened before her like a gigantic black maw. The entire light explosion was sucked inside, leaving nothing but a cold gust of wind.
The radiant elf commander fell to his knees, his bow slipping from trembling hands.
"What... kind of monster are you...?"
Celes approached slowly, sword dangling at her side. She crouched in front of the commander, her face nearly touching his.
"I’m just a girl who likes playing with space," she answered gently. "And you... are out of toys."
She slowly raised her sword.
"Final Slash."
CRACK!
The space around the commander fractured into four sections. His body was neatly divided into four floating pieces then each vanished into a different fissure. No blood remained. Only silence.
The otherworldly zombies around Celes finished off the last of the living enemies. Six-armed creatures tore through armor effortlessly, faceless beings swallowed heads whole, mechanical creatures fired plasma from their mouths.
RIP! CRUNCH! BRRRRT!
The final enemy screams faded amid the whispers of the dimensional fissures.
Celes stood straight again, spinning her sword once before resting it on her shoulder. She surveyed the now nearly empty battlefield only corpses remained, along with small lingering fissures still pulling remnants of blood and weapons into the void.
She exhaled with satisfaction.
"It’s over here," she murmured softly.
