I Found a Door to the Elven Realm-Chapter 20: Third Evolution League Skill!
Eren wondered why the language he was learning didn’t have a classic name like "Wolf Language and Literature" or "Animal Language". Yet he had nowhere to ask his question.
He took a deep breath. Seconds later he was feeling better after the pain in his head went away.
[Congratulations! By learning Beastin you unlocked one of the evolution conditions of "Basic Language Skill"]
Before Eren could be glad that the new language seemed valuable, a different message popped up.
[Basic Language Skill (First Evolution League Skill) - Level NA
[Do you want to evolve the skill?]
He hesitated between watching the wolves below and responding to the prompt. However, he decided to improve his skill first. There would be no room for complaints if he lost the chance to improve the skill later.
"Yes."
[Congratulations! You have learned Advanced Language Learning (Third Evolution League Skill)]
Eren felt something inside his body being squeezed and forced, then growing a little. It was as if something from the outside had forcibly developed a deeper part inside him.
It has become a skill from the third evolution league. Where will this skill be used?
Eren still couldn’t let go of learning the creature’s language Beastin. It was nice to develop a skill, but the important thing was to get out of the situation he was in.
Also... what exactly is Beastin?
[A Divine Language gifted by the first beast to her children at the beginning of time]
This time, Eren heard his own voice in his head, not the robotic female voice of the system lady.
It felt like he somehow knew the answer of the question, and his own voice answered it.
Eren looked at the explanation part of the developing skill with curiosity.
[Advanced Language Learning (Third Evolution League Skill)
It makes the user more prone to all languages. Greatly increases language and communication skills. Provides clues about language and origins.
Side effects: Users can’t have a default native language anymore. The higher the number of languages learned, the greater the likelihood of confusion in interlingual sentences]
So this skill isn’t just for learning new languages—it also gives clues. And it has side effects, not just benefits?
He was realizing for the first time that the skills learned in this Universe could have nasty side effects. Skills were more dangerous than he thought.
Emily hadn’t said anything about it. Maybe the young hunter didn’t even know this yet.
Eren turned his head down and checked out the two wolves.
Even without this new skill, now that he had learned Beastin, he could tell what they wanted from the snarling voices.
The purring or growling of the wolves among themselves meant many things. These wolves were low-level and not very intelligent. Their intelligence was around that of a one or two year old child.
[Hey when do you think it goes down?]
[I don’t know.]
In fact, wolves spoke not with words, but by conveying what they felt.
Eren understood them only because of the skill. Wolves didn’t have the capacity of complex sentence meanings. It was all about the message’s feeling and intent.
When the wolves made those wheezing sounds, the meaning automatically translated into human sentences in Eren’s mind.
Even their voices were different from each other.
The wolf chasing Eren all the way here was like a small and feeble-voiced child. His friend of similar age next to him was the quieter type who didn’t like to talk if it wasn’t necessary.
To his amazement, Eren realized they were both cubs that had just been separated from their wolf pack.
These are newborn babies...
That’s when he started to believe again that he might have a chance to get out of here.
Eren climbed down a few branches, struggling a bit with great excitement. There was even a moment when he nearly fell. But after a lot of effort and cursing, he managed to sit on a branch closer to the wolves.
The female and the male wolf got excited by his movement below. They imagined he would eventually come down and surrender itself.
"Ehem-ehem." Eren cleared his throat and waved at the wolves.
"How you doin?" With Eren’s speech, the two wolves froze. They were surprised because a sound similar to their own came out of strange Elf’s mouth.
The two cubs didn’t even know they could communicate with a two-legged piece of meat. Wolves saw elves as walking meat banks. Like meat-popsicles.
But talking to their food was a first for them. They were babies and hadn’t learned such a thing in the Pack.
Eren smiled shamelessly and continued speaking using the Beastin Tongue.
"Why are you after me? There are a lot of rabbits in the forest. Can’t you just hunt and eat them?"
This time, the talkative high-pitched wolf howled toward Eren.
[Hurrrr. We’re not after you because we’re hungry. We were told that all elves must be killed in the pack. When our mother gives orders, we follow orders!]
Eren shook his head. But then he remembered that wolves would not understand the body language used by humans.
That’s why he howled with his mouth, stating that he understood. Then he realized an important matter on which he could deceive these little puppies.
"Well, do you think I’m an elf?"
This time, the wolves looked at Eren and then at each other.
[What are you?]
Eren sighed innocently. "I am a monster too. I am a creature that is rarely seen around here. I am a dwarf."
The wolf children instantly pricked their ears, and the quieter wolf thought for a moment and growled.
[I’ve never heard of dwarves. What kind of creatures are you?]
Eren landed on a branch below and stood at a distance of three meters from the wolves.
"Unlike you, we don’t harm other living things. Our sole purpose is to live in caves. But I lost my family and everyone. That’s why I have to live here with the elves. Although I am a monster just like you."
Eren and the wolves talked for a long time. And at the end of the conversation, the problem was solved. The tragic story of Eren (he made up) and his ability to communicate with the wolves like a monster worked like a charm.
Eren was sure that other adult wolves wouldn’t communicate with him that way, and that they had an instinct to kill anything on two legs. But these two cubs were still very young and had been separated from the pack too soon.
It was said that the pack had grown enormously, and every day new wolves like these two had to be kicked out. Old generation deemed that they were old enough to hunt on their own.
"Can I come down?"
The wolves didn’t give him any trouble.
As Eren climbed down, they came closer and sniffed him. Then the three of them sat on the floor and talked some more. Eren deliberately didn’t use the word "human". He thought that although humans were a race not found in this region, if there were "humans" at a distance, their names would be known in the pack.
If he had indeed referred to himself as human, the wolves wouldn’t have acted so amiably. Even the baby cubs would do anything to kill Eren despite their weak bodies.
Because the one and only time they talked to their mothers in the pack, she taught them wolves’ worst enemies were the race called "human".
But these puppies were only a few weeks old. They didn’t know what real hostility was or what humans looked like. Except the Elves close by, they didn’t know anything yet.
[We are kicked out of our home. We hunt and eat. Then come back bigger!!]
"Well, good luck to you." He answered but didn’t give a damn if they really managed to do that.
Ten minutes later, Eren returned to the Village, where dozens of Elves were looking for him at the edge of the forest.
His eyes teared up when he saw that so many people were so worried about him.
But the real trouble came later.
For the last hour Emily started looking for him. Every ten minutes she would come from a different part of the forest to ask if Eren had returned.
When she was doing the same thing, she saw him from afar and ran to them at a terrifying speed. Within seconds, she was in front of him, with her arms in the air.
Is she going to slap me? 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
I can’t say I didn’t deserve it.
Contrary to all of his predictions, Emily was happy, not mad. The Elf girl, who normally spoke in a very sweet voice and moved gently, hugged Eren with all her physical strength.
She hugged him so tightly that it came close to breaking a few bones of the Level 9 Eren.
"You are not dead!" Emily continued to hug Eren with all her might as she muttered to herself.
Then, without even asking what happened, she took the young man by the hand and dragged him to their house.
Some of the elf villagers around were shaking their heads, while others were laughing.
