I Found a Door to the Elven Realm-Chapter 12: High Level Wolfs
While Eren was walking toward the village in high spirit, he heard the sounds of dogs in the distance.
He looked up at the sky, then at the Elven Village in the distance.
He paused, glancing around to make sure he was still in the Elven Realm.
Emily had explicitly told him there were no stray cats or dogs here.
At least, not the friendly kind humans kept as pets. That wild cat he killed to become Level 1 was the biggest example.
They were probably wild dogs or wolves and they didn’t sound friendly at all.
Knowing Emily, she was probably the only person brave enough to be face them.
Is Emily okay?
Eren started walking towards the sound in curiosity. He followed the sound along the village’s edge, staying near the treeline but still outside of the village.
Eren had never walked around the village like this before. Seeing everything from the outside made it look smaller than he would think.
It was perhaps big enough for several hundred people to live in it.
But it wasn’t hard to see that this place was cramped with everyone and everything due to the dangers outside.
Every now and then, he saw Elves tending their gardens from afar or doing business from behind high fences. He greeted some of them and said good morning to those who were close.
He still hadn’t given up on his plan to introduce himself to the whole village and become a part of the community.
He wanted everyone to know that he was a good person.
I don’t want them to blame me and kill me when something bad happens in the future. Even the best-case scenario of exile would be awful.
He wasn’t yet at such a high level that he believed he could survive in this magical world on his own.
I’m only Level 6.
As he walked, he heard howling and growling rather than dog barking. He was damn sure there was more than one dog, even though the voices came from far away.
After walking a little further, he had completely walked around the village and reached the outer part of the north side. As he walked from here into the forest, there was the sound of angry animals and a lively battle.
Emily was to one side with small knives in both hands. On the other side were huge wolves, up to two meters in length. Eren was sure that these creatures couldn’t be dogs. They looked huge and dangerous.
But there was no fear or panic on Emily’s face. She even acted as if she was doing the most normal thing in the world.
Eren started to watch from afar the calm behavior of this sexy hunter.
What would a Level 6 person contribute to this war anyway?
Even one of the wolves is strong and fast enough to shatter me in an instant. Moreover, there were exactly five of them and wolves acted as a group.
Watching the monsters and Emily was confusing.
She was dodging attacks but it was always too close.
Emily moved with a grace that made it hard to look away. It was terrifying and hot at the same time.
Whenever she reached toward the arrows in the quiver on her shoulder, one of the wolves would close the distance and run towards her, only to retreat as soon as it gave the hunter a warning feint.
Although wolves didn’t seem as intelligent as humans, they were smart enough to exploit the weaknesses of their enemy.
But there was something even these creatures didn’t know.
Emily was fighting creatures like them every day! Beautiful hunter leaped backward, her heavy chest heaving with the sudden motion, distracting Eren for a split second.
Her body shifted with the jump, sweat-slick fabric clinging tightly to her curves for a moment.
Emily threw the knife in her left hand toward the wolves. But the most important thing was her free hand was still in the air.
The wolves’ attention was on the blade in the air. Emily’s left hand went up and she waved her arm as if it was a sword.
She didn’t chant or glow but a two-meter-long gust of wind appeared in the air. But it wasn’t something floating in the air like in movies or anime. It sliced through the air and cut down two wolves before they could even react.
Emily watched the frightened wolves flee but didn’t move. She could have run after them but as the only hunter of the village she needed to conserve her energy.
She learned to be prepared for other dangers from her parents. This wasn’t a job where you could be emotional.
Protecting the village was always the main goal.
Emily smiled knowing that wolves wouldn’t come to the village for several weeks. Then, as if she already knew Eren was watching her, she turned her head and waved.
Her body was glistening with sweat. She looked very alluring despite her tattered elven cloths.
It looked like she was acting in a Hollywood movie.
As she walked toward Eren, she left the bodies of two torn wolves behind her.
There was a curious look on Eren’s face so she explained their customs in the village.
"Even though I do the hunting, there are others who take care of corpses and scraps. But their work starts after mine is done. They’re probably all having breakfast right now."
Eren frowned and turned around the tired Emily.
"You aren’t injured, right?"
"I can handle such low-level wolves even if there are ten of them. The problem is whether they attack the village while ignoring me. Lucky for us they never tried that yet."
"How many different monsters usually attack the village?"
"Almost ten different monster types and a few animal tribes. Fortunately herd monsters don’t get along with other kinds or with monsters."
Eren and Emily slowly entered the village and kept talking until they reached the restaurant. Their conversation remained on the forest and monster hunting habits.
Eren learned that animal evolved creatures and monsters didn’t like each other very much.
During breakfast, Emily froze for a moment and looked at Eren’s hand in surprise.
"Your ring?"
Eren finally remembered the ring and told her what happened.
"Did a Slime really drop this? Are you sure?"
"Isn’t it possible to obtain items from Slimes?"
Emily shook her head. "Items can also be obtained from Slimes. But the probability is extremely low. For items to drop from low-level creatures, you need to kill a lot of the same creature and be at close levels. But you are clearly above Level 1- 2 Slimes. And even then hundreds of kills may give one item if you are extremely lucky."
Eren lowered his head as if something had just occurred to him. His eyes stared at the still open Profile Panel.
Luck: 17
"I’m guessing people fighting creatures in this village usually improve things like Strength, Agility, Intelligence or Mana from their stats, right?"
"Naturally."
"And you can’t boost your Luck Stat even if you wanted to because the system doesn’t allow it."
"Exactly. Most people are stuck between 7 and 12 their entire lives. Mine is 12 and it is the highest in the whole village. My mother used to say it is fixed on birth."
"Then what would you say if I told you that my Luck is already 17?"
Emily was visible shaken for a few seconds.
"Unbelievable. All your stats increase just like monsters, even that is absurd. But I never thought your Luck would increase as well.
I thought it would be locked or something similar."
"Hehe.."
Even for something so simple, he was proud of receiving praises from a beautiful woman. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
They visited the outer forest area that afternoon.
Eren killed Level 1 and Level 2 Slimes. He found Level 3 Slimes moving out of the forest a couple times. He killed the ones in safe areas but never walked into the deeps.
He was acting more cautiously now that his life was in danger once.
"I need to be more careful until I am strong enough. This isn’t a race..."
Unfortunately, he didn’t level up once more.
...
Two days passed like a dream.
It was the evening of Eren’s fourth day in the Evon Universe.
Emily and Eren were sitting at home chatting. They had just arrived from dinner and Eren was a little tipsy after two glasses of wine. Maybe it was the alcohol talking, but he suddenly felt confident enough to drop his crazy idea.
"Emily, I think it’s time to test the portal skill. I need to go back and bring some supplies that could change our lives here. I mean, from my world."
"Are you going to leave me?" Emily muttured with a breathy voice. She was about to cry.
Seeing the anxious expression on Emily’s face, Eren’s heart warmed. It was a good feeling for such a perfect woman to care for you.
"Hey. I’m not leaving permanently. There are so many amazing things my world can offer for our lives in the village.
I also have to call my parents and tell them I’m fine. Don’t know if I can open a portal to my house anyway. Please calm down."
Eren had previously explained the functions of basic technology devices such as phones and cars. That’s why Emily didn’t ask what it meant to make a phone call.
But it took a few minutes of talking for Eren to calm the worried woman. He wasn’t expecting such a reaction.
Actually, since the first day he came here, Eren had been intending to return home and bring something worthwhile from this side to Earth. Maybe something that is abundant in the Elven Realm and would be very valuable on Earth.
It would be nice to have gold bars or some other magical tools that he could sell. Yet, because he knew the situation of this village, he gave up such dreams.
After discussing this matter with Emily, the only thing that came to her mind was the stones the Elves used to adorn their jewelry.
Since Eren didn’t know much about metals, he planned to take a few of the most ornate and valuable-looking ones.
He would ask how much they were worth at a jeweler’s shop.
Well, maybe after checking if I can find similar ones online. I don’t want to look stupid if these are just junk.
When they got up in the morning, Eren waited at home excitedly until Emily had finished her hunting job.
She returned for breakfast with a heavy bag in her hand.
"You didn’t need to carry that many. One of each was enough." He was surprised by the amount she took from the warehouse.
"It doesn’t matter. They’re all tiny and there are tons of them. This village used to be big enough to reach Mount Death at the other end of the Jade Forest. Our ancestors used to mine there. So, you can have as much as you need."
Eren glanced at the bag.
To Eren, they looked like decorative stones used for the old garden walls or cheap jewelry.
He didn’t believe they would worth much, but he was willing to try his luck on money making.
Maybe his high luck would affect other things...
