I Fooled The Goddess Into Pitying Me-Chapter 49: Operation Abandoned...
The guys in the suit began firing their handguns in all directions as they fell, one after another. But Jack didn’t care about that, he was more worried about the blade hovering in front.
A moment later, a handgun replaced the blade. Jack got even more scared, but then the gun dropped, firing two bullets. The bullets hit the chains binding Jack, freeing him.
The chains hit the ground with a loud clank as Jack was yanked up.
"Took you long enough," Jack frowned, hitting Takeshi’s shoulder.
Takeshi just rolled his eyes, handing a black mask to Jack, along with a car key.
Jack pocketed the key before reaching into his mouth and pulled out a small capsule stuck in his wisdom teeth.
"You know," Jack said, "next time, make the pill taste something other than metal."
Takeshi sighed before crushing the pill.
It wasn’t an ordinary pill, but a tracker. Usually, they put it in a target’s ass to track them, but since Takeshi was in a hurry, he told Jack to place it in his mouth.
It was a fresh pill, so Jack wasn’t licking someone’s asshole unknowingly, but Takeshi didn’t mention the ass part, as he didn’t want Jack to puke.
Back when they were in the car, this was the plan Takeshi came up with. Jack would take the tracker and the men would follow him as Takeshi believed the kidnappers wouldn’t find the device deep within Jack’s mouth.
That’s why Jack walked into their trap without hesitation. He knew Takeshi would save him, since it was all part of the plan.
Meanwhile, Jack rubbed his wrists to ease the blood flow before wearing the gas mask. Finally, he could breathe without his nose and mouth burning.
"Finally... no more mustard gas."
As for Takeshi, the silent assassin was busy using the assault rifle in his hands. He kept firing at random silhouettes through the smoke, and surprisingly, all the targets hit were on the enemy’s side.
How much have they trained together to know each other from their silhouettes?
Not to mention, they all followed Takeshi’s command without exchanging a word. If Jack thought the guys from before were professionals, then Takeshi and his men were comparable to the Navy Seals. Quick, efficient, deadly, and silent.
Just then, another man approached them, carrying Angela with him. She was already wearing a mask, breathing as usual. Still, Jack checked her pulse, and thankfully, she was alive, despite the wild shootout.
Jack wanted to play a more significant role in the rescue, as it would have affected Angela’s affection more. Unfortunately, with his current skills, it was impossible to play the hero.
Well, she’s unconscious. I can spin any tale I want. Who’s gonna tell her otherwise? Takeshi?
Jack lifted Angela in a princess carry and was about to leave, but turned to give a final order.
"Keep the leader alive."
The guy had mentioned something about a contract to kill Jack. He wanted to know who was the one who ordered a hit on him and kidnapped Angela. Even though he had a hunch about who it could be.
Takeshi nodded before giving a quick hand signal. Simultaneously, two men stepped back from the fight and flanked Jack. They were going to protect him, in case the enemy had any more traps around.
It wasn’t until they stepped into the fresh air that Jack noticed something. Back in the alley, he got scared after seeing a gun pointed at him, but this time he didn’t bat an eye when people were dying around him. Nor did he worry about the gunshots, apart from the short duration when Takeshi’s gun was pointed at him.
He was fine with all of it. No, it was more like his body was used to it.
It was like the crime lord in him was acting on behalf of his true self.
...I’m going crazy.

A few hours later.
Angela woke up to the sound of the rhythmic beeps of the heart rate monitor. She tried opening her eyes, but one of her eyes was swollen shut and the other felt too heavy to lift. To make things worse, her head was pounding in pain.
Eventually, the pain subsided, and she opened her eyes to be greeted by darkness. Other than the faint glow of the machines surrounding her, she couldn’t see much.
But she could smell the antiseptic in the air.
A hospital? What... am I doing... here?
From her memories, she had just left the Oriental Bliss after talking with Jack. And then...
The crash.
On her way back, two cars collided in front of her. She wasn’t on duty, but she couldn’t ignore the scene either. She grabbed her badge and stepped out, only to get jumped as soon as she did.
She remembered the struggle, but everything after that was blank.
Water...
She tried to sit up, but pain shot through her ribs, pining her back to the bed. That’s when she saw him.
Someone was slumped over in the chair next to her bed, holding her hand. Like her, he too had a few bruises on his face, all of which had been patched up.
Jack... what are you doing here?
She wanted to speak, but no words came out.
She might not remember what happened, but given her condition and that Jack was there, it could only mean one thing.
He saved me.

With that thought, she closed her eyes. The answers could wait, but sleep was ready to claim her.
But there was one issue...
Why did this guy start snoring now, of all times?
Jack was tired too. Not to mention, he was living a vivid dream, one involving goddess Fortuna... on his lap.
The goddess had something important to tell him, and for that, Jack had to be in a deep sleep. So, she put a little spell on him. Jack didn’t want to spend the night in the hospital, but couldn’t fight the spell.
At least he got two hundred dollars for the trouble.
