I Faked My Death—Now I Have to Tame the Crazy Men I Left Behind-Chapter 19 - 17: Her Past Romantic Debts
With Felix Sinclair around, Mia Grant’s luck had been good. She hadn’t run into Ian Sinclair for nearly a week.
Her claim of not having a phone was a lie. Kian Keller had given her a new one on the first day of school. She’d set up a secondary account and added Felix Sinclair on WeChat.
Felix Sinclair: [Let’s have dinner tonight.]
Mia Grant was lazing around in her dorm room like a corpse. When the message notification chimed, she didn’t even have to look to know who it was from.
Sighing, she slowly picked up her phone to reply.
[Today’s not great. It’s my roommate’s birthday.]
Fearing he wouldn’t believe her, she thoughtfully sent a screenshot of her dorm’s group chat as proof.
A moment later, Felix Sinclair replied with an "Okay."
The reply was exactly what Mia expected. The Sinclair twins had completely opposite personalities.
As long as she had a valid reason, Felix Sinclair usually wouldn’t insist or force the issue. For someone so young, he was indeed as steady as a seasoned official.
But Ian Sinclair was different. He was a total child, and exceptionally clingy.
That evening, while Mia was having dinner with her roommates, she got a call from Kian Keller.
Her phone was on the table, the contact name glaringly obvious: "Fiancé."
Her roommate next to her saw it immediately. "Mia, you have a fiancé?!"
Mia’s eye twitched violently. She laughed as she picked up the phone. "No, that’s my best friend. Hahaha, she was playing a prank. I don’t know when she changed the contact name."
"I’m just gonna step out to take this."
Mia went out to the end of the hallway before she dared to answer.
"Ethan~"
"Are you done for the day?"
"Not yet." Mia didn’t feel right lying. "It’s my roommate’s birthday, so we’re still out having dinner."
"But we didn’t go far, just to a restaurant two kilometers from campus."
On the other end, in the back seat of a Rolls-Royce, the man stared at her location on another phone, the hostility in his eyes slowly dissipating.
"When will you be done? I’ll have someone pick you all up."
"No need to trouble yourself! It’s really easy to get a cab here. We can just go back together."
Mia gazed out the window, letting the breeze blow on her as she vented to him, "It was so hot and tiring today... If someone else hadn’t used the excuse I was planning on, I would’ve taken the day off. Damn it!"
"I’ll speak with the university administration. You can come home and rest. Go to class after the military training is over."
Hearing the first part, Mia nodded eagerly.
’Kian Keller does have his uses.’
’Even though getting special treatment isn’t great, since I have the resources, why not make good use of them?’
But the man’s next words made the smile she’d just formed instantly vanish. "No, no, no! I was just saying!"
’If he really takes me back home, it’s anyone’s guess whether I’ll ever be able to come back to school.’
’Forced to choose between military training and being locked up by a psycho like Kian Keller, I’ll take the former.’
’At least it’s not life-threatening.’
Mia gritted her teeth. "I think this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It would be such a shame not to participate."
"It might be a little tough, but I can handle it!"
"Don’t push yourself." Although the doctor said she was fine, Kian Keller was still shaken by the time she’d coughed up blood without any warning.
He didn’t want to see anything happen to her again—the woman who had come back from the dead.
"I’m really fine..." Mia regretted venting to him.
She turned and leaned her back against the windowsill, her gaze dropping as she switched the phone to her other hand.
Suddenly, several pairs of shoes entered her field of vision.
Mia’s voice faltered. Sparing a bit of her attention, she looked up.
A few guys stood opposite her, looking to be about her age. They were decent-looking, not exceptionally handsome, but their bodies were absolutely amazing!
"Ahem."
"Is your throat bothering you?" the man on the phone asked.
"No, no, no, the wind just caught in my throat..."
’If I hadn’t remembered I was still on the phone with this "ticking time bomb," I would have let out a wolf whistle.’
"You’re outside?" He noticed the wind had picked up.
Mia nodded haphazardly. "Yeah, yeah, it was a little noisy in the private room, so I came out to take the call."
"Go back inside." Now that he had confirmed her location and heard her voice, Kian Keller had nothing else important to call about.
After the call ended, the guys across from her still hadn’t left. They were staring at her intently.
’That sorrowful yet affectionate gaze... hsss...’
’If not for the lack of a blackening value appearing over their heads, she would’ve almost thought they were another set of male leads here to collect a debt from her.’
’One, two, three, four... Hsss.’
’System, I had no idea you had so much faith in my charms.’
’It’s great and all, but isn’t dropping four on me at once a bit much? I’ve been worn down by military training lately, I really don’t have the energy.’
’Have them form a line. I’ll recover a bit before I summon them to my court.’
The system was speechless. [...These are your own romantic debts. What do they have to do with me!]
Mia raised an eyebrow. ’Is that so?’
She had no memory of it whatsoever.
"Are you... looking for me?"
—
「In the men’s dorm」
Dixon barged in, cursing.
Ian Sinclair glanced up from his game, then burst out laughing the next second. "Did you just take a shower?"
"A shower, my ass. The rain came out of nowhere. I ran all the way back and still couldn’t escape it!"
"I bet it’s because too many people were praying for rain during military training. It was forty degrees Celsius during the day..."
Felix Sinclair was looking over some documents. At their words, he turned his head to look out the window.
From this angle, he could see the swaying shadows of the trees in the courtyard and the raindrops rapidly drumming against the windowpane.
After a moment of silence, he picked up his phone from the desk. The chat window was deathly still.
After some thought, he typed: [Are you done?]
[It’s raining outside. Send me your location, I’ll come pick you up...]
He paused, then added: [And your roommates.]
Ten minutes passed with no reply.
Felix Sinclair checked the time and stood up.
"Bro? Where are you going this late at night?"
Seeing him put on a jacket and grab an umbrella, Ian was confused for a second before understanding dawned on him. "Going to pick up sis-in-law?"
A week had passed, and the title "sis-in-law" was rolling off Ian’s tongue more and more smoothly.
"Yeah." Felix Sinclair pushed the door open and left.
Felix Sinclair asked a few people about Mia’s roommates and quickly got the address.
By the time he arrived, Mia was walking out with several guys.
He stood in the downpour, holding an umbrella, watching her take a tissue from one of the guys to wipe the water droplets from her hands.
They were acting close, laughing and talking. They didn’t look like they had just met.
He stood not far away, his feet as heavy as lead, rooted to the spot.
Of course, Mia wasn’t a stranger to them.
These were the four college guys she had met on the island. She never expected their university to be nearby as well.
No wonder she hadn’t recognized them. Back then, she had been so focused on staring at their abs that she’d paid no attention to their faces.
After a brief chat to catch up, Mia hadn’t planned on leaving with them. But it had suddenly started raining outside, and she couldn’t get a cab.
It just so happened that they had driven, so she decided to take her roommates and hitch a ride back with them.
Maybe it was because the rain was so heavy and the air so cold, but she rubbed her arms, a chill running through her.
"Who’s that guy? The fuck is he looking at?" one of the college guys next to her clicked his tongue in annoyance.
Hearing him, Mia casually turned her head, her gaze unexpectedly colliding with a pair of restrained eyes.
