Chapter 11: Cut Off From Her Finances

Camila was lounging on the fancy white sofa of her penthouse, her manicured fingers scrolled through her phone as she devoured every headline about her sister.

The media was having a field day with the scandal—

Camila smirked. "Oh, Ines, you really do know how to put on a show."

She tapped on a particularly juicy article, detailing how the public was split between admiration and outrage.

Some called Ines a revolutionary, defying her family's rigid control.

Others painted her as a reckless, spoiled brat throwing a tantrum.

"She's always been dramatic," Camila muttered before dialing a number.

The call barely rang before her father picked up.

"What now?" Diego Jackson's voice was stricter than usually, it sounded filled with irritation.

"If this is about your sister, I don't want to hear it. That girl is a disgrace."

Camila smirked, hearing just how livid he was.

"Well, I thought you'd be interested in knowing that our dear Ines is making quite the splash in the headlines. Not exactly the fairy tale wedding you envisioned for her, huh?"

Diego exhaled loudly enough for Camila to hear it.

"She ruined everything. Humiliated this family. Do you have any idea how many calls I've received? Business partners questioning my control over my own daughter? The board is restless!"

"You should've expected this," Camila said, examining her nails.

"Ines has always been ungrateful. You gave her everything, and she throws it away for some... boxer? A nobody?" She scoffed.

"Honestly, it's pathetic."

"She is pathetic!" Diego snapped. "I spent years grooming her to be the perfect heir, and she turns her back on everything for what? A fleeting rebellion?"

Camila tilted her head, playing with the edge of her silk robe.

"Maybe it's time to remind her of what happens when she crosses you."

There was silence on the line before Diego muttered, "Go on."

A slow smile spread across Camila's face.

"She thinks she's independent, doesn't she? Let's see how independent she is when she has no money. Cut her off. Completely. Make it public too—let everyone see how quickly she falls without Daddy's wallet."

Diego hummed in though.

"That... might work. She's never had to struggle a day in her life. The moment she realises how hard life is without my resources, she'll come crawling back."

Camila grinned. "Exactly. And when she does, you can lay down your terms. Make her regret ever crossing you."

Diego chuckled, liking the idea. "I knew I could always count on you, Camila."

"Of course, Daddy. I only want what's best for the family," she cooed.

They ended the call, and Camila tossed her phone onto the glass table, stretching lazily.

"You think this is your happy ending, Ines?" she murmured, her blue eyes glinting in the sunlight.

"Think again. I will not let you be happy."

Ines was sitting on the couch, scrolling through her phone as well when a notification popped up.

Her bank account had been frozen. Her jaw tightened.

She already knew who was behind it.

Meanwhile, Raphael came back from his long shower session, towel slung over his shoulder.

"You look like you're about to murder someone."

"Oh, I am," Ines muttered.

Raphael sat down next to her. "What happened?"

She turned the phone to him. "My dear father and my wonderful sister decided to cut me off. And they made it public."

Raphael frowned. "They're trying to humiliate you."

Ines let out a bitter laugh.

"Oh, that's not even the worst part. Now, I have no access to my money, no place to go, and I'm stuck with you."

Raphael smirked. "You say that like it's a bad thing."

Before Ines could respond, her phone vibrated again. A new message from an unknown number.

-This is just the beginning.-

She gripped the phone tightly. Someone was watching her.

And whoever it was, they weren't done yet.

"Ines, if you don't like me, then why did you ask me to marry you?"

Ines looked to her left and her right, searching for the answer.

Deep down, she wasn't sure as well. She was in a bad moment, and Raphael saved her, so she thought he could continue doing so if they would get married.

She no longer wanted to go through physical pain.

"Because I didn't want to end up like my mom..." Ines finally mumbled.

"I know that...but...was there any other reason?" He raised an eyebrow.

"You were handsome...and you looked strong, so I thought...why not?"

A small smile appeared on Raphael's lips.

For some unknown reason, this made him happy.

"So you're not after my fame and money then?"

Ines looked up, staring directly into his eyes as if she was trying to snatch his soul from Raphael's body.

"I am now."

"You so silly sometimes."

"And you, why did you agree to marry me?"

"Because you reminded me of someone that I lost-"

Ines jumped closer to him, "who?!" She raised her voice.

"My sister."

Ines stepped back, rethinking everything one more time.

"Where is she?"

"She's resting now...in heaven..."

Ines stopped, "I'm so sorry, Raphael..."

"That's okay...anyway, I'm going to take a short nap now."

When he left, there was something in Ines's chest that made her feel like she was being crushed between two mountains.

"I want to know more about him..."
