I Cast Forbidden Spells Until the World Breaks-Chapter 116 You Should Believe That No One Can Lie in Front of You
"Howard, you need evidence when you speak. You can suspect me, that’s fine, but where is your proof? If you don’t have evidence, stop throwing accusations around, or I’ll sue you for defamation."
Zayne leaned back theatrically and flopped onto the sofa, signaling the technician to keep washing his feet. After that, no matter what Howard asked, he refused to say another word.
Howard’s face turned livid.
At this point, he was already certain that Zayne had something to do with Astrachior’s death and the disappearance of Captain K and John.
But Zayne was right. Just like the Dano case before, there was still no evidence.
What made it even worse this time was that Zayne was no longer just the champion of Old Shipyard Port, but the national champion.
With that status, without solid proof, Howard could not touch him at all.
"Don’t worry. I’ve already had people pull all the surveillance footage from this period. If you disguised yourself as Shadowcaster and left the city, then there must be evidence showing you were outside the city during these seven days."
Howard spoke coldly.
Just then, Scott pushed the door open and walked in. Howard did not notice Scott’s grim expression and held out his hand.
"Zayne, didn’t you want evidence? I’ll give it to you right now."
"Uh... all surveillance footage from five days ago to three days ago was destroyed for unknown reasons."
Scott said with a bitter expression.
"What?"
Howard’s anger exploded, his face twisting.
"Yes. And three days ago, the first time the cameras captured Zayne again was at the suburban villa district. He took a taxi there. We already found the taxi driver. The driver said he saw Zayne four days ago and drove him twice."
Scott continued.
"That’s impossible. Bring him here."
Howard roared.
Very soon, the taxi driver who had driven Zayne before was brought in.
The moment he entered the private room and saw Zayne, his face changed, and he started stuttering.
"Of... Officer, I really didn’t introduce him there. Please don’t arrest me."
Howard was momentarily speechless.
His lie detection ability clearly told him that the driver was lying, but this was not a prostitution investigation.
"Who asked you that?"
Howard’s temples throbbed as he pointed at Zayne.
"You drove him four days ago, right?"
"I... I didn’t."
The driver’s eyes darted around.
"Tell the truth. I won’t arrest you. Lie again, and I’ll lock you up immediately."
Howard shouted, and his professional aura surged.
At the same time, his title appeared.
Howard, Master Lie Detector.
The moment the driver saw this, his face turned pale.
A master level lie detector meant countless interrogations. Trying to lie in front of Howard was suicide.
"If I confess, can you make sure I don’t get a record? I’ve got a kid at home. I’m afraid it’ll affect his visa."
The driver said with a miserable expression.
"Tell me everything you know. If it helps the case, not only will you not be arrested, you’ll be rewarded."
Howard coaxed him patiently.
"Okay, okay, I’ll talk."
The driver nodded frantically.
"I really did drive him twice. I honestly don’t remember the exact dates, just around three or four days ago. The first time was at night. He was drunk and had two women with him. Those women were really pretty..."
"Stop."
Howard had a headache.
"Get to the point."
"Right, right. Then early the next morning, I picked him up again. As soon as he got in, he said he wanted to find prostitutes and shoved a stack of cash at me. I got tempted and took him there."
As he spoke, the driver took out all the money Zayne had given him and placed it on the table.
"I swear I didn’t spend a single bill."
Howard’s chest heaved violently as he stared at the driver.
"You’re certain you drove him twice, once at night and once in the morning?"
"Absolutely."
The driver nodded.
Howard felt his head explode.
Because the driver was not lying. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
"Where did you take him?"
Howard pressed on.
"White Stockings Club..."
The driver blushed.
Howard immediately signaled Scott to bring in the staff from White Stockings.
But questioning the staff produced the same answer.
Zayne had indeed gone there, roughly three or four days ago, twice. He had even broken a vase.
According to Howard’s ability, every single one of them was telling the truth.
Howard’s face grew darker and darker.
The surveillance was destroyed, and every witness confirmed that Zayne had stayed in the city the whole time.
All the evidence he had pointed to one conclusion.
Zayne was innocent.
"Howard, don’t be so angry. Want me to call a few hot girls to help you cool off? Don’t worry, I’ve tested them myself. They’re great."
Zayne smiled at Howard.
Long before he left the city, Zayne had already begun laying the groundwork.
Now, if anyone in Old Shipyard Port mentioned national champion Zayne, the first thing that came to mind was self indulgence.
How could someone like that be connected to Astrachior’s death or the disappearance of John and Captain K?
As for the taxi driver and the club staff testifying for him, that was even simpler.
Those professions met countless people every day. How could they remember everything clearly?
The human brain naturally compresses repetitive memories. When every day looks the same, time feels like it flies by.
All Zayne needed was a bit of psychological suggestion. When a lie became something even the speaker believed, it was no longer a lie.
Then Double J destroyed part of the surveillance footage. With Double J’s speed, even sneaking into John’s home had been possible, so tampering with cameras was trivial.
That gave Zayne a perfect alibi of never leaving the city.
"Zayne, don’t think you’re flawless. If something was done, it leaves traces. I will find them."
Howard gritted his teeth.
"Is that so?"
Zayne smiled.
"As a master lie detector, you should believe that no one can lie in front of you, right?"
"Of course."
Howard narrowed his eyes. He might not be good at fighting, but when it came to lie detection, he had absolute confidence.
Zayne looked at him calmly.
"Haven’t you always suspected that Shadowcaster and I are the same person? Then let me tell you this."
"Just a few days ago, I personally watched Shadowcaster explode into a cloud of blood right in front of me."
