Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Alone!

It would serve two purposes, establishing my strength and earning the villagers’ trust.

Most importantly, it would give me the chance to step in and ’save’ Emily, earning her gratitude and possibly something more.

But none of that would work if she started avoiding me.

"I need to give her some time... let her come to me."

The thought made me tap my fingers against my knee, already calculating the next steps. Timing was crucial, and pushing too hard now might undo everything I’d set up so far.

I stood up and stretched, letting my gaze wander to the pile of firewood stacked in the corner.

Carrying it down earlier had proven just how far my body had evolved, I’d barely felt the weight. It gave me confidence, enough to start considering something even riskier.

"There’s that hidden event nearby..."

The memory of the hidden encounter resurfaced in my mind. It was labeled as a ’miracle event’ in the game, a high-risk, high-reward scenario that most players avoided until mid-game. But with my enhanced strength, I figured I had a shot at clearing it early.

If I pulled it off, the rewards would be game-breaking, legendary gear, skill upgrades, and resources that could cement my dominance in this world.

"Risky, but worth it."

The thought of what I could gain sent a thrill through my chest. The borderlands surrounding the village were dangerous, but danger didn’t bother me anymore. I welcomed it.

Lost in my plans, I hadn’t even noticed the sun sinking lower in the sky until my stomach let out a low growl, reminding me that I hadn’t eaten since morning.

Dusting off my pants, I stepped outside and started making my way back toward the center of the village.

The scent of roasted meat filled the air as I neared the communal fire pit, and for the first time in hours, my thoughts shifted from strategy to survival.

But even as I walked, my mind kept drifting back to Emily, her flushed cheeks, her soft curves, and the way her lips had parted as she moaned.

....

The village square was alive with activity, filled with the laughter and chatter of villagers eagerly waiting for their meals.

The air carried the tantalizing aroma of grilled meat, making my stomach rumble in anticipation.

I scanned the crowd, my eyes darting from face to face, half-expecting to spot Emily or her family somewhere among them. But they were nowhere to be found.

"Weird... They usually eat here with everyone unless something comes up," I muttered to myself.

Relieved that it wasn’t just Emily missing, I let out a small breath and turned my attention back to the bustling scene. That’s when I felt a firm hand clap down on my shoulder, startling me.

"Alex! Did you hear? They’re roasting a whole boar tonight!"

I turned to find one of the village NPCs grinning at me like a kid on Christmas morning.

His excitement was almost infectious, and I found myself smiling as he gestured enthusiastically toward the large fire pit at the center of the square.

As we moved closer, the source of his excitement became clear. Mrs. Lydia, the village’s head cook, was expertly grilling massive slabs of boar meat on a stone slab, the juices sizzling as they dripped into the flames below.

The scent was almost intoxicating, and judging by the expressions of the villagers gathered around, I wasn’t the only one thinking so.

People were practically drooling, their eyes glued to the feast in progress.

That’s when I noticed Lilly standing near the back of the crowd. Her posture was tense, her arms crossed over her chest as she stared blankly at the firepit. She seemed completely uninterested in the lively atmosphere around her.

"I’ll be right back. Don’t eat my share," I said to the NPC, already turning to leave.

"What? You’re leaving now? With food like this about to be served?!"

"I’ll be quick," I replied, waving him off.

I circled around the square, taking a wide path to avoid drawing attention to myself as I approached Lilly from behind.

She was so focused, or rather, unfocused, that she didn’t notice me sneaking up on her. A mischievous grin tugged at my lips as I reached out and grabbed her shoulders, leaning in to blow softly into her ear.

"Eek!"

She let out a sharp scream, jumping forward in panic, but my grip on her shoulders held firm. She squirmed and thrashed, trying to break free, her movements drawing the attention of a few villagers nearby.

Realizing I might’ve overdone it, I quickly released her and raised my hands in mock surrender.

"Sorry! I didn’t think you’d get that scared," I said, trying to diffuse the situation with a sheepish grin.

Lilly spun around, her chest heaving as she panted for breath. Her cheeks were flushed a deep red, a mix of embarrassment and anger, and her wide eyes shimmered with unshed tears.

For a moment, guilt pricked at me, but it was quickly replaced by amusement at how flustered she looked.

"Haah... haah... You... idiot!" she snapped, her voice shaky.

"I said I’m sorry, okay?" I repeated, raising an eyebrow at her dramatic reaction.

Her lips quivered as if she was holding back more insults, but all she managed was a venomous glare before hissing through gritted teeth: "...Go to hell."

The sheer hostility in her voice was almost comical, and I had to bite back a laugh. Her reaction reminded me of a classic tsundere from anime, all fiery anger and adorable awkwardness.

Against my better judgment, the sight of her like this was starting to get to me in ways I shouldn’t let it.

Clearing my throat, I decided to steer the conversation in a different direction. "Why are you here alone?"

She didn’t respond, instead crossing her arms defensively and turning slightly away from me, her chin tilted upward in defiance.

Her refusal to answer only piqued my curiosity further. Most of the villagers were paired up, chatting and laughing as they waited for the feast to start. It seemed odd for someone like Lilly to isolate herself.

Seeing her stand there, still fuming, a mischievous idea crept into my mind. I glanced around, making sure no one was paying attention, and leaned in slightly.

My hand moved stealthily behind her, and with a quick motion, I slipped it under her skirt.

"Ah!"

Her reaction was instant. She stiffened, her eyes widening in shock as she gasped audibly. Her hands shot down to push me away, her cheeks now an even deeper shade of red.
